I lived in Bogota for two years, and now 1 year in Bucaramunga. Worst part of Bogota is the traffic. I loved the weather, outside of the rain. I never felt it was too cold. Always felt safe and never had a problem. Many amenities from the states as it’s the capitol, so always had a piece of home there. Colombia is a great place to live and very affordable.

Hi, I'm Colombian-American, great observations. I lived and worked in Bogota for a yr and miss it very much. I go back every year in Jan. The weather in Jan and Feb is the best, sunshine, so many museums, restaurants, and tons of things to do. Also, many places Rolos leave Bogota on fiesta weekends (3 day weekends) and go south, west, and east and u are in the tropics. Melgar, Villavicencio, it blew my mind with the range of ecosystems 1 hour away from Bogota. I have traveled allover the world and Bogota fascinates me.

I returned to Colombia after 17 years outside the country. I have decided to come back to Colombia for the same reasons as the guy at the end of the video.. People here don’t really understand why I want to be here instead of Canada, but it is hard to explain that living in Colombia is more interesting and full of colors. It is not about the money why I am here, it is more because I feel that life here is way more interesting and least predictable, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad, but it is exciting.

Check out La Calera area, it looks like Switzerland. Go to Alpina, it's a great location. Check out the Salt Mine in Nemocon. I h ope you get to see Melgar as well. Quality of life is good in Colombia for foreigners who earn dollars or euros, so you could have a good quality of life anywhere in Souh America (except Venezuela) with the right amount of dollars/euros, but yeah, Colombia is cheap compared to Brazil for example (at least the big cities). For the majority of Colombians is not good, they work almost every day of the week for just one million of pesos (300 dollars) monthly. Another nice video Sly!

Great video, Sly! I love Jay's comments at the end. I was in Medellin for 5 weeks this past summer and one of the things that impressed me was how warm, friendly and social the people are. There is always people out in the parks, cafes, restaurants and shops. Even people going to and from work looked relaxed. It wasn't a constant rat race to acquire more crap like it is here in the US. I hate where I'm living now, and it was hard to come back home. I can't wait to get back to Colombia!

I'm from Bogota and when you visit my country Colombia it's better ask to people what kind of streets, avenues, neighborhoods, areas etc are safe to visit them, because in cities in Colombia there are some areas where there is insecurity , there are thieves in the streets .
So better to ask where is safe to go. So don't travel alone if you don't know or don't have information first
There are many Colombian people who speak English and they can help you with information.
However , try to learn a basic Spanish
but if you speak with a Colombian person who doesn't speak English that person would try to communicate with you to help you.

Hey man, I spent 2 years in DC where the atmosphere is exactly the same - cold, rigid, uptight, even criminal. Came to spend a month in Medellín and like Jay at the end of the video, I just felt like, why do I want to leave? I don't want to go back to that mess of a city where everyone is miserable and lonely. I stuck out a couple more months here and recently managed to find a pretty well paying remote job with a gaming company. By US standards the pay is pretty bad but in Colombia its fantastic.. I can have my own apartment, eat out multiple times per day, pay for a membership at a great gym, subscribe to Tinder plus ;) and still have money left over. It's all about perspective and how far each dollar will take you. Come for a trial and see how you feel about it.. Maybe you'll end up like me man

I work from 8:00am till 5:00pm Monday thru Friday, and the weekends belongs to me. I have several Colombian friends. And a beautiful girlfriend. They know I work for the embassy, and don’t ask me to many questions. Most of the questions are about immigration. Other than that, I’m just another person in Colombia. @@Karl__Pierre I am from Spain and no shot was mandatory, anyway, they recommend you to take 3 vaccines: Fiebre amarilla, fiebre tifoidea and hepatitis A (in spanish). But if you go to Colombia and then you want to go to Ecuador, Brazil or near countries, you need to have at least the yellow fever, if not you can find yourself stuck in the airpot, which i think its a problem that Sly had in Brazil.

The women look average in Bogota because, as he said, you see them mostly covered up due to the climate. The less a woman wears, the more a man sees and sub-consciously looks better to him. I live in Northern California and every summer women in Sacramento look way better to me than women in San Francisco. But that's because women in Sacramento are wearing daisy dukes and halter tops with their hair flowing while in he same day only 80 miles away, women in San Francisco are wearing pants, jackets, scarfs, and caps to keep their heads warm.

It seems most expats take buses or the metro in Colombia. It's a pain to get a driver's license and they won't accept foreign licenses. So ride a bike. Bogota has a lot more bike lanes than the rest of the country and the mayor is always encouraging everyone to ride. You won't get as sweaty as the lower elevation cities either.
