RIP Andy ❤
The first CD in my life I have ever bought was one of The Smiths; Meat is Murder. RIP Andy Rourke.
There is alight that never goes out.
Well said 😢
I'm in tears right now. Just found out. I dont know how I would of made it through my teens without The Smith's. Time slips through our fingers so fast. RIP Andy. You will be missed.
Exactly. Well said
I feel embarrassed for you.
I cried too. It's really disappointing Morrissey has to act the way he does. Andy is something Morrissey will never be.
Absolutely.
i feel the same. i’m in my teens right now and the smiths are the only thing that keeps me going. their music feels like a hug in darkest times. they saved us but we sadly can’t save them…
andy was such a a talented and kind soul…
may he rest easy ❤️
Johnny Marr is usually the one to receive deserved accolades', but on many of the Smiths songs, it is Andy's bass that sticks out. What an incredibly creative bassist! Travel well Andy!!!
Barbarism is an outstanding piece of bass work I've yet to hear from anyone else and I'm a fan of lots of bass players
Yeah it really blows my mind that Andy's less appreciated. I think people in general just have a lot of trouble understanding and appreciating bass. Kinda like how singers are almost always the first to be praised and the most popular. Most people sing the songs - some of us hum the guitar riffs, and some of us are transfixed to the bassline.
Didn't Marr wrote the bass lines as well...?
@@augart89Nope Johnny said he didn't write them, Andy did. That rumour is probably why he didn't get the plaudits he deserved. It was just how songs were credited. People assumed that because the 'music by Johnny Marr' that he did everything and they just turned up and played whereas on TQID for example, Andy had a massive part in the music.
Rip Andy hope your playing the bass from barbarism in heaven brother
RIP Andy so sad to hear this news.Morrissey's message was so beautiful, glad he knwoledges the fact that he played a part in the band
It was touching, and I'm glad to know that despite differences and drama they had, he loved Andy. Being in a band makes for strange drama. Stuart Copeland of the Police once said, "the Police were like wearing a Versace suit, made of barbed wire."
At the end of the day, they were brothers. Family. And I'm feeling so sad for them....
I'm so shocked and saddened by this news ,rip Andy Rourke one of the bass greats you will be sadly missed ❤
RIP to one of the greatest rock bassist of ALL TIME!
Heaven knows I'm so sad now.....RIP Andy 😢😢😢
Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce were amazing together. Saw them live in NYC in '85 and '86. God Bless you Andy.
Your music changed my life and your playing style made me look at music from a much more melodic perspective. Rest in peace genius. Thank you forever. Love from Argentina.
This one hits hard. Not just that he was central part of the greatest indie band of the 80s, but that he seemed like - and everyone that knew him agrees - such a kind and gentle feller. RIP buddy.
I can hear the bassline to "Rusholme Ruffians" as I vid this clip. He lives on in dimensions of sound and memory, his existence preserved in the collective remembrance of all whom have ever listened to the the music he played and recorded.
Yes!!! The basslines for Rusholme Ruffians and I don’t owe you anything are some of the best ever. RIP Andy
Well you left your mark, you played your part. The music lives on. Thanks for the music Andy.
I was really caught off guard when I heard the news. I was so shocked and saddened to know that a member of The Smiths died. It’s quite painful to bear.
Cancer is always a “flatulent pain in the arse”…
And Heaven Knows us Smiths fans are miserable now.
Absolutely sir, Im still gutted about hearing this, such bad news.
@@Ineedanewbrainwashagent1. Probably one of the saddest deaths of 2023 so far… although that’s just my personal
opinion..
Also.. I’m not a Morrissey hater… just putting it out there..
The Smiths reunion will never complete 😢
North West Lad. North West Man who loved his city of Manchester. Well liked quiet but so loved and respected. The Smiths had one of the all time best rhythm sections in a music band with him and Mike Joyce together. Their power timing tightness professionalism talent (listen the never to be equalled Barbarism begins at Home bassline) and understanding allowed Johnny Marr to go off and do his own magical thing. Marr has come out and said that and this is telling. It shows Andy Rourke's contribution to without doubt the strongest and greatest band of the 80s era. They were so strong only themselves could break them up. His work will be held up as examples to future musicians which none of them will reach until one comes along with his gifts and we get another super group. How soon is now on that one? Morrissey also makes the point that as long as his music is played he will never die. Also got a bit emotional reading Morrissey first words of his comment of ''I'm not prepard to do this with Andy'' proves maybe as Morrissey also points out ''He didn't even know his own power'' RIP Mr Andrew Rourke, from a North West Bloke like yourself who you made damn proud to be from our Region. I just have to die and get into Heaven now cause that's the only way I'll see The Smiths reform completely. I'm not sad I'm just happy that You was amongst us in the first place with your musical gift. Thank You.
Rip charming man. 😢
A few months ago I literally became a huge Smiths fan. Their music magically helped keep my sadness in check. I can’t believe you’re gone Andy. You were part of that magic which helped me. Rest in peace my friend. Live forever, jamming out with God!! Thank you for making the world a better place by using your talents. We all love you ❤️ 💐 🌺 😇
I just recently had a painful and traumatic experience, I'm 48 ... I strapped my headphones on and listened to The Smiths, and just like they did when I was 14 and going through depression and family abuse, they helped me immensely, hearing Morrissey's voice and those songs brought instant relief, I still cried for a while but it helped me in a way that is hard to put in words. I'm always so irritated when people describe The Smiths as depressing! Because as so many of us know, those songs have the opposite effect on people who are genuinely feeling distressed and depressed. I'm glad you've discovered The Smiths, I have thought about the inevitable "earthly "demise" of Morrissey and how it will f me up, now having to deal with the death of a much loved member of The Smiths, Andy Rourke, such a funny and lovely talented guy. I think I might have to listen to some Smiths and remember how brilliant and talented he was. Much love from a fellow fan.
Death of a disco dancer. Is the one that sticks out for me. They way it starts Andy on Base. Hope your in Heaven Andy🙏
We will meet you at the cemetery gates in a dreaded sunny day. I will pass on your memory.
Inspirational to people all along the globe, you made me and much more people play your terrific bass lines.
Love from 🇮🇹.
Please comment with your flags under this comment to honor him.

RIP ANDY 💔🕊️
RIP excellent bass player
Talented & gifted. Thank you for the many great memories. RIP.
One of Andy's best bass jams for the Smiths was "Jeanne" his fills in-between Jonny's guitar is one of the best !! RIP Andy 👍
The Latino community of rockabilly‘s here in Los Angeles, California will miss our beloved “ruffian”. We will miss our “charming Man”. Continue your ‘barbarism’.
With much love to our beloved Andy❤️🎼
Beautiful.
One of the smiths, how dare god take you. Well said morrissey after everything that happened, rip Andy🙏🙏🙏
He’ll live forever …. A legacy that only mere mortals can dream of ….. R.I.P
Just found out that he's passed away huge fan of the smiths lived in Salford all my life 😍
This is devastating. A whole world died with Andy. I am so goddamn grateful to each one of those men for what theyve contributed to my life, i cannot even adequately put it into words. My love, and my absolute sadness is shared by all of us, the family of fans that we have found, thanks to these boys, united by the love of their art....i have never felt closer to every Smiths fan as I do right now, and my heart, as always, but even stronger now, goes out to Morrissey, Johnny and Mike. Andy was 1/4 of every Smiths song written, and right now, it feels as if theres a big hole in the world and its never going to be filled again.
Im crushed. I quit drinking in 2016 cold turkey. But I need a drink.
Please stay cool and sober. good 24 h
Rest in Peace Andy Rourke 🥰👍🙏❤🕊
This is so heartbreaking. He seemed like such a quiet guy.
My 32 year old neighbor got pancreatic cancer when I lived in New York city in the 1990s and I was honest with him, I told him to party it up as long as he can, engage in love as much as possible because there was no hope for him to live longer than a year, that everybody dies but his death date was sped up, but sadly he didn't listen to me.
He fell into the hospital/hope torture circle and they did all the ancient medical procedures to suck as much money out of him as possible, radiation, poison, then they reamed his insurance by locking him in a bed completely devoid of freedom while pumping him full of drugs and then he died. Absolutely disgusting.
Rest in peace, Andy! 🙏🙏🙏
Magnifique bassiste.. doué très jeune 😢
Absolute legend ❤ from the greatest band ever💔💔😭😭rest in peace brother 🌹🍻
The Smiths as one.
Oh my God 😢😢😢😢 rest in peace genius
#RIP Andy Rourke
Rest in peace legend
Rip Andy, your beautiful music will continue to inspire.
I’ve always like The Smiths! 👍 So sorry they lost Andy! 🥺 May he RIP! 🍺🕊️
mi bajo esta triste y de luto...descansa en Paz Andy.
This night has opened my eyes. Qui il tuo basso disegna una meravigliosa traiettoria, Andy, come in molte altre opere degli Smiths. Siete voi i veri Baroni. Onore!
I cried at Morrissey’s kind words. He has such a heart.
lol
No he doesn’t. The way he treated Andy and Mike regarding monies owed was horrendous.
@@tahirali4578 that was like 35 years ago
@@Branflakes1503The passing of time doesn't make it untrue. Morrissey had/has total contempt and apathy for both Joyce and Rourke [when Rourke was still alive]. He downplayed and apathetically dismissed their indispensable contributions on both The Smiths' music, as well as his own solo work.
Last but certainly not least, it's because of Morrissey being a sad, arrogant, insecure and vindictive puff that the world and more importantly, the fans who made The Smiths and he himself, superstars, never got and now will never get a true Smiths reunion...
Rip Andrew Michael Rourke, you will be missed
Morrissey, as always a way with words that melt your heart
When you consider Morrissey's response (response from all three of them in fact) it's a wonder there wasn't a Smiths Reformation?!
Rip, one of my favourite bands growing up
Sending prayers to Steven, John, Andrew, fans of The Smiths, The Boy with a thorn in his side, Sheila takes a bow, Girlfriend in a coma, This Charming Man, There is a light that never goes out, Bigmouth strikes again. Now it's Panic on the streets of London because the death of Andrew. Heaven does knows we're all miserable for the loss of The Ex Smith Andy.
Ooh so sad to hear this. I have loved the smiths forever RIP sir
Sad that Morrissey's realization and accolades came so late. RIP Rourke.
@d.808lf5 As far as anyone knows, Morrissey never despised Andy. He played with Morrissey for a while after the band broke up. Each one followed their own path. Any kind of animosity between the two was never aired.
r.i.p Andy Rourke prayers up for you and your loved ones
Descanse em paz mestre 😔2023 está complicado.
Rest in peace Andy ❤
From Japan.
I love The Smiths the best in UK.
I played their many songs with my friends when I was 21 years old(then I play vocal).
So I know Andy plays extraordinary bass.
The Smiths is based on Andy and Mike playing.
R.I.P. great bassist Andy.
Rip andy i willingly miss you
An inspiration
RIP Andy. Gone, never ever forgotten. He will live forever in his songs.
Everyone talks about Barbarism Begins At Home, but don’t forget about Rubber Ring and This Night Has Opened My Eyes 🔥 🪦 Andy
How the blue hell am I just now learning about this 2 months later?! Damn! He was such a good bassist and an overall good guy.
RIP Andy.
So prominent and melodic in every Smiths song.
He did what he loved….
Such a loss. Hearing his music makes him sort of part of our family. Very talented musician.
If the Smiths are to be credited by their uniqueness and personality, that could not be reached without the playing of Andy Rourke. Never. Thanks for all the music mate, you touched our lives forever. Long live the smiths.
so, don't forget your favorite bassline from him, the one that saved your life.
🤍
Such a shame that the Smiths didn't reform for one show in recent years
Wow Morrissey actually had something nice to say about a fellow Smith, too bad he had to wait for him to die.
May he rest in peace ❤
A great loss....
This breaks my heart. Much love to his family and friends.
If Moz and Marr cared that much they wouldn’t have made sure Andy made buggar all from the Smiths.
This makes me so sad. RIP.
He and Mike were such a brilliant rhythm section that you might actually not have noticed. But go play a Smiths album right now and turn up the bass and turn down the treble, and listen to what Andy's doing. So melodic, without ever over-reaching. And you can pretty much tell what kind of a person he was too.
The link at the Smiths chain....is broke 😢😢😢
RIP Andy.......
So many bass players are the best bands secret weapon....that go relatively unnoticed but in fact are the nexus of a bands groove. Iron Maiden, The Cure, Nirvana, Queen, New Order....and The Smiths. Rourke's bass was unbelievably intricate and very unique and special. Also not lost in the mix, but front and center where it deserved to be.
Then, he had to be good if he was rhythm the Marrs extraordinary and also unique guitar playing, which is just as intricate and forever fascinating.
Like The Smiths still are.
Anyway...he's and immortal, the music is forever and people discover it still everyday.
Que triste notícia vá em paz 😢😢😢😢😢
Sad to hear this. RIP Andy.
It took my father, just an awful illness. So sad to read.
Deim ! i just ran into this news !
R.I.P Andy !
Thank your for your Music
My favorite bass player.
I saw Andy O'rourke at an event in Honolulu he was dressed like Austin Powers ruffled shirt and ascot looked strange but he is English, so that's almost compensatory. I pretended to bow him Waynes World style "we're not worrhy, we're not worthy" he just looked puzzled as if to imply "I'm not Morrissey" ❤
RIP Andy, great bass player and amazing guy! Funny statement from Morrissey though who back in the day called him (and drummer Mike Joyce) 'as interchangeable as the parts of a lawn mower' ...
Copy+pasted comment. Let a man rest in peace without inserting your personal bullshit. This is you by the way: 🤡
Quite elequent and passionate.
Morrissey should have told him these things when he was alive but i guess holding a grudge was more important.
RIP Andy💛
Andy. Thank you for being part of my childhood.
There was 4 members of The Smiths remember, and two of them weren’t Morrissey or Marr.
RIP Andy.
Wwwwww andy sarai sempre nei nostri cuori . Il migliore
Anyone know who this music is by? Really nice…
Steven Patrick found the right words. RIP Andy-
