I really love the first scene between James and his wife, it explores the idea that Love can come about by being around a person for a long amount of time and gradually accepting the person, even if they are forced together and feel i it is more heart felt than other stories where it all seems to happen on first glance. Oh and First comment lol =)
2:09 With a few minor modifications, this is pretty much the speech I give to my students at the beginning of every course on the consequences of failing their First Certificate English exams.
Great scene and acting but the speech about how they would be executed was actually given by the chief prosecutor Coke. Artistic license I suppose. Still a really good film. For real insight it to why, how and who was actually involved read a book by Antonia Fraser
james was actually pretty secular before the gunpowder plot. oddly, the reason for guy fawkes trying to blow up parliment only became relevant after he was executed
Sadly the Church of England just became a nationalised version of the Catholic Church- both their practises are similar but are only different in leadership.
He's the real traitor. All of the Stewart Kings of Scotland were Catholic before him. His mother was a devout Catholic. England was ruled by the Catholic Normans and Catholic Anglo-Saxons. England was founded by Catholics in 927. The Kingdoms of England, the Heptarchy were all Catholic. Many great kings were Catholic. By far the most courageous and strong English kings were Catholic. By the 1600s kings could sit in their little carriages and not do anything. But just look at how they were in the 1300s and 1400s. They were indomitable. Warrior king Edward III, valiant King "Harry" Henry V. Spoiled, vile, traitor to his whole family as well as to the traditional faith of the Isle.

Robert Carlyle 🤴🏻💖 but damn he’s scary in this scene! Just a testament to his great talent
His scariness is titillating
It will serve as a reminder to all of our people of the consequences of gunpowder, treason and plot!
Friggin awesome 👍🏻

What a King!
He was quite an interesting character.
Keep in mind
This is the same King James who had the Bible published in English
And the tradition of sparklers, Bovril and jacket potatoes began.
God Bless
I didn't know Begbie ended up King of England?
His impulsiveness paid off. He was king of England and Scotland by the way.
Some people hate the English I don’t they’re just wankers
I can see why they cast him as Hitler
