    In this video, I do a review on the 12V 100Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Ampere Time Battery. They sent me this battery in exchange for doing this review. We camped for 4 nights without hook-ups using this battery as our main source of power. And it did awesome! So far we have been very happy with the battery - I will talk more about it in the video. If you have other questions about the battery, please let me know. Thanks for watching!
    Battery Description:

    I love my Ampertime batteries. I bought one 200A last fall. We loved it so much, we bought another 200A for Christmas. We boondocked in the desert all winter. Not one problem with the batteries. 3 months of solid power.
    We had snow in Utah. The temp of the batteries never came close to freezing. But even in cold temps (38’) the voltage never dipped below 13.7.
    I build little power boxes, and am looking at a 50a battery for the power source.

    You mentioned not being able to fit two batteries on your tongue battery rack. I had the same issue. Had room for two Grouo 24 batteries but the Lithium 100Ah batteries had a foot print close to Group 27 batteries. I opted for two Lithium 12v 100Ah GC2 batteries that matches Group 24 footprint but are just taller, not causing any problem for my trailer.

    The benefit of lifepo4 aside from the life cycle and depth of discharge rating is the voltage curve. Lifepo4 batteries maintain a constant voltage where as lead acid or sealed lead acid has a constant voltage drop. Lifepo4 was designed for constant drain where LA & SLA is designed for a large burst of power instead. You have to watch your temperatures carefully with lifepo4 batteries though as they can overheat (the bms should kick in if it does and cut power) and you will damage the cells if you charge them in freezing temps.

  • @graffix11us
    @graffix11us 2 года назад +2

    I like all of the product reviews. The difference you are seeing in voltage drop is just the way Lithium batteries act, they will hold that max voltage right up until the minute they die. Just another benefit to Lithium. It's nice to see the prices coming down. I've always gone with the higher quality Lead-acid batteries since I don't use my batteries much but it's getting to the point where a Lithium is starting to make sense for the next round.
    On a completely different topic, would you buy another property if it had the same amount of cactus you have on this property? Seems like that would be a deal killer for me but just wondering how much of a hassle it has really been.
    Thanks for all the great content.

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  2 года назад +3

      I think that you are spot on about the lithium's. We've been pretty impressed with them so far. It'll be interesting to see how they do in the long run.
      Good question about the cactus. It used to bother me, but we have done so much mitigation we don't really have them in our main camping area or areas we hang out. Also, since I rented the excavator last year and built trails around the property, you can easily walk the trails and not have to dodge cactus. I was worried about the dogs and the cactus but they somehow manage to run full speed around the property and not get a bunch of pricks! I also bought me a good pair of Ariat work cowboy boots. I can pretty much walk through cactus piles and not get pricked.
      Now, if I had my choice of a property with cactus or without, I would obviously chose without. In our situation, our property was only 33k. Properties without cactus (at the time) were 65-70k. If money was not a concern, we would have bought the 65-70k property but we were not in a financial position to do that at the time. Overall we have made our property work and have been really happy with our purchase. Hope that helps!

    hey buddy. the battery that comes on the camper hitch area powers the whole inside of the camper right like the outlets pumps everything¿ or those other things run only when you connect that power plug from an outer source like home or campground plug station¿

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  11 месяцев назад

      It runs everything DC inside the camper. So, that includes the lights, water pump, bathroom fan, oven fan, and a 12 volt socket outlet. In order to run the outlets, microwave, and/or fridge, you need to be hooked up to a generator or shore power. Some of the new campers out there run power inverters with solar, this way you can run the outlets and small devices off the battery.

    • @ColoradoCamperman

    Out of curiosity, how do you feel this ampere time battery compares to the AO lithium battery you reviewed a month or so before the ampere time?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  Год назад

      Good question. Both seem to perform about the same. I like the AO because it has the bluetooth app that you can hook up to. But I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost just for that. Ampere time is quite a bit cheaper and gets really good reviews, it's also performed great for me. Will Prowse just did a video the other day saying that Ampere time and Chins are the best bang for your buck. If you want the tech, go with the AO. If you want the same quality but cheaper, go with the Ampere time. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    I'm new to solar and bought one of these batteries for my cargo trailer camper. I have very minimal power needs so I am planning on also just starting with a 200 watt solar setup. If this battery is rated for 1280 continuous watts would it be good to match it with a 1200 or 1500 watt inverter?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it sounds like that would be a good setup. However, if you're running 1200 to 1500 Watts constantly, you are going to need a much larger solar array.

    if you were going to spend 400ish to upgrade your battery would you go 2 6volt 235 ah golf cart batt or this 100ah lifepro ? or would you spend the 400 on something else?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  2 года назад

      With the golf cart batteries would you have 235 ah total or are each battery 235 so you would have 470 ah? If you're talking 470ah versus 100ah, I think the golf cart batteries might be the way to go. If it is 235 ah total, it's a toss up. I've never used golf cart batteries, so I can't say anything about them in regards to their performance, only what I have heard/read online. Probably 5-7 years ago they were all the rage. Now that LiFePO4 batteries have come out and you don't hear anybody talking about them. We've been pretty impressed with the LiFePO4 batteries we've gotten. I love how lightweight they are and their performance is awesome. It seems like they are really well setup with solar. Sorry I can't help you more. Thanks for watching!

    • @tracymeskel2839
      @tracymeskel2839 2 года назад

      I would go with the lithium. Two six volt batteries, you have to hook up in series, to make 12v. Series hook ups doubles the volts but the amps stay the same. If you have 2 of them you only have 235ah. And you can only use 50% of that power, without damaging the batteries. That’s only 117ah. You can get a lithium and use 100% of the power. I went with 2, 200ah 12v lithiums, and have been completely happy with our Ampere time batteries. Plus you can keep adding batteries to enlarge your battery bank. Two lithiums will give you more power than 2, 6v batteries. Plus the weight is a third less with lithium. 160lbs. for two 6v. 50lbs for two lithium.

    • @williamfuller2389
      @williamfuller2389 Год назад

      If I'm not mistaken, 2x 6v 235 Ah batteries will rate a total of 235 Ah at 12v. With 50% discharge limit, you get about 115 usable Ah, but with all that weight that golf cart batteries have.

      Yes - the walmart lead acid automotive starter batteries are a great deal and last a long time for that single purpose - that is to start your car. However it will not last very long when "deep cycled". They are only drained maybe 10% or less each time you start your car. Deep cycle batteries are drained to 80% and if you do that to a starter battery they might last 3 months.
