  • Is Mexico cheap? Want to move to Mexico? Do you know how much money you will need and what kind of lifestyle you can expect? In this video, I share all of my monthly expenses with you so that you know how much money you need to live in Mexico in 2021. If you want to live in Queretaro in 2021, this is the video for you! If you want to retire in Queretaro on a budget here I tell you how much it costs to live in Queretaro.
    A lot of people want to retire in Mexico and Queretaro is one of the most popular destinations, particularly for those who want to move to Mexico from the US and take advantage of the cheap cost of living.
    I've made cost of living videos on my channel before but I wanted to keep you updated with how prices are right now. The pandemic has affected prices everywhere and the Mexican peso and the dollar's exchange rate has been particularly volatile. We returned to Mexico after 2 years of living abroad and we wanted to share with you how much you need to spend to live comfortably in Mexico.
    In this video, I share my monthly budget with you and break down all of my expenses and bills, including rent for a house in the center of Queretaro city, our food shopping, eating out, cost of bills and utilities and medical insurance.
    The last time we made a video like this was in 2018 and we were spending around $1,200 a month for two people. How have things changed in 2021? Watch and see...
    If you are interested in living in Mexico, please check out my other videos for more information about the cost of living here. This can be particularly useful for those who want to retire in Mexico and want to know the real prices if you want to live on a budget.

    Hey guys! I've read some of you wanted to know exactly how much we spent after watching this video. I didn't put the grand total of this example but just if you were wondering, we spent around US $2,000 for both of us and that included our trip to Sayulita for a week.
    The insurance we have is: Seguros Monterrey New York Life.

    I loved this video! I have a tour business in San Miguel de Allende and am frequently asked about salaries in Mexico...especially how much to tip! I always tell people to be generous and that at least 15% and 20% shouldn't be a hardship for them. The wait people will be delighted and you will be remembered. And as tourists you get to visit one of the most amazing and beautiful countries on the planet...fair tradeoff. P.S. I love taking people to the beautiful and elegant Colonial city of Queretaro.

    As always, I loved this video. I figured it would be more expensive in touristy areas. That looks lovely where you are. The insurance you have to pay is still less for both of you than what one person pays on Medicare per month. And of course there are always other fees and charges on top of that.

    I enjoy your videos. The City of Queretaro should pay you for promoting this wonderful place. One potential downside is that your videos will encourage more visitors and expats to relocate to Queretaro which in time may significantly change the local culture and charm. (To wit: San Miguel de Allende). But more tourist dollars will inevitably help the local economy. This may be worth the risk.

      Absolutely! That’s what I fear the most since I have all my relatives living there. I’ve seen the changes over the years, from the late 70’s till now. I hope it’s just a temporary trend/fad to move to Querétaro, but I fear that the secret is out with all the RUclipsrs making “how to” videos ☹️😢

    Thank you for the information on Queretaro. My wife is from Dolores-Hidalgo and I’m part Colombian (I’m fluent in Spanish, lived in Cartagena). We are thinking of retiring in Queretaro or San Miguel in a few years. Possibly splitting time between Texas (where we live) and Mexico. We drove thru Queretaro from Mexico City and we were amazed at the growth. Would like to see a comparison on living downtown and the newer area popping up around the city. Also if we were to split time would it be better just to rent a place in Queretaro or buy? If we buy would it be best to have a renter who can watch the place. We had a family member have their house in Dolores broken into and furniture stolen.

    Just look for rentals to get an idea. Up north you spend more on electricity for ac. In gdl rents average from 8-15,000 pesos. So you gotta make 22k to make it. In a town it's much much cheaper. On my wife's hometown in los altos Jalisco expenses are 60% and rents 40% of Guadalajara/Zapopan. No high speed internet though. Food, water gas electricity is cheaper the more remote you want to live. Expats wanting to live in San Miguel de Allende will see higher rents than in other towns in the same state...

    Querétaro is$1500 less per month. Than the USA, and 100% SAFER. I have great friends here. La Comer delivers my grocery. All utilities and a maid included. I have friends who are super nice. And I always hang with the locals.i am 79 now. But I have been coming to Mexico, mainly Acapulco. Since age 20. Earthquakes are why I did not retire in Acapulco.
    I do speak Spanish as a second language. And the locals are my friends.

    I think you did a fairly organized job of all the different expenses ,except transportation, like buses or Ubers/lifts.Also what about Laundry ?So places have a machine ,other no,so people go to a lavendaria ,which is very affordable..

      The bus fares are pretty cheap like $10-20 pesos ($0.50-1), Uber is usually a bit more expensive. It also dends on the distance

    Great video! Do you know if there is an ecstatic dance scene or contact improv dance scene there? I'm wondering how the dating scene for expat women in our 40s seeking committed relationship with men is there? I'm in SMA and it's definitely a predominantly senior crowd here. Do you notice there are more expats in their 40s and a more diverse population there?

    • @statingtheobviousify
      @statingtheobviousify 3 года назад

      Most of our expat friends are in their 30s (because we're in our 30s). I think there are plenty of expat pensioners here but it's not the overwhelming majority like in SMA.
      I can't comment about dance but I would imagine that dating would be easier here if only because it's a bigger city with more people.

    This was a great video, gracias! (◕ᴗ◕✿) Me soprenede mucho el costo de la seguranza medica en Queretaro, pero es mejor que en los EEUU. Que lastima que el servcio medico no podria ser mas acesible. Aqui en los EEUU (Las Vegas) pagamos $300 para una familia. (En 2006 pagagamos $125) Carisimo! Y nada mas cubre emergencies mas que nada y una visita al ano para el bien estar. Pero una visita adicional al doctor es facilmente $100, y una clinica rapida $75, y olvidate se nececitas una cirugia.

    • @LaKarencitaMX
      @LaKarencitaMX  3 года назад +1

      Si, en Estados Unidos es loquísimo todo lo relacionado a gastos médicos. Decidimos contratar este seguro de gastos médicos mayores por pura prevención por supuesto.
      Cómo mencioné, podemos ir al doctor si tenemos una gripa o algo sencillo y no es nada caro.

      People who use a lot of electricity subsidise those who don't. If you use air conditioning or other appliences that need a lot of electricity, you might pay a similar amount to in the US because the price per kwh increases a lot the more you use.
