    Yo Ted! You're still kicking butt and taking name's. I'm retired from the residential and commercial game after 41+ year's. Biding my time for the next 5 year's as a stationary engineer at a very large data center in California before I hang up my HVAC hat for good. I enjoy watching your videos very much. You've made a very successful living doing what is RIGHT! That's called INTEGRITY and PROFESSIONALISM. I will continue watching as long as you continue making these enjoyable videos. Thank you and stay safe out there.

    well you taught me enough to diagnose my system when it messed up today. Came home to a nice 78 degree house and an ice block on my lines to the condenser. both were cold. Ice cold air coming from the machine outside so i know thats bad and uniform airflow all around up top so it can breathe. Checked filter its clean. so whatever is messed up is beyond what i need to get involved with im sure id find 2 way to fry the machine or myself so leave it to the pros
    thank you for the years of entertaining videos Ted and while i have no interest of going into the trade its still entertaining and educational

    Thanks for another great video. On personal note, I have the same vision problem that you described and the problem was fixed by bifocal lenses. Modern bifocal lenses are called progressive lenses, which eliminate the visible lines that used to be in the old style bifocal lenses. Do yourself a favor and look into progressive lenses so you will only need 1 pair of glasses.

    I know you're anti-diy, but I did a cap and go yesterday. I noticed my condenser was starting slower than normal for the past week or so. My 45/5 +-6% was reading 39.2/2.9 on the multimeter. I went to Locke supply, and replaced my cap. Everything is starting up like it should. 💪🏾

    Great work again Ted. Doing the cables ties on the excess wire lengths really do make the job better for the next time it needs a diag. I'd agree with your opinion that the OEM board type is still made...not every warehouse will stock them however, they should at least offer to get them in short time.
    As far as under the house, even a child could see the one nifty job in ducting was rather a mixed bag of work theory. They had a nice rigid 12" elbow on the plenum but then lost all of that good thought but kinking the flex and then "repairing a flex" vs. replace a length of it. On the return side, like you said...very crappy job for air flow. Some folks must think if its connected at both ends it doesn't matter whats going on in between.
    Maybe the two downstairs units should be replaced with one 4 ton and dampeners helping move air to and from the tea room...might be able to get away with that one return they already have if returns from the other locations are combined ? Unless the client wants that one room independent of the rest of the floor level...

    @5:30 -- when I have a bad furnace board during the summer I usually just hook the 'Cool' speed up to a peanut relay, the other side to hot and have it close with 'G'.
    Can leave it like that till you get another board and have time to do it.

  • @BryanTorok

    When you started jimmy-rigging the blower wiring to get the blower on, I was thinking, doesn't the thermostat have a blower on/auto switch? We had HVAC systems long before having printed circuit boards in the systems. Motor contacters, a couple of relays, and some temperature and pressure switches were all that was needed. The parts were cheap and commonly available.

    A set of high quality progressive lens will fix you up for reading, computer and distance. They have no lines and cost a bit but solve the problem. They take a few days to get used to so you don't want to give up to quickly. You end up looking through different parts of the lens for different distances and have to commit that to muscle memory. Sams Club usually has good prices but buy the best. The are effectively no line trifocals.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 2 года назад +3

      outdoor condenser was running and it's switched on by the board/transformer powering it's contactor. therefore the fuse, transformer and thermostat have to be sending power through.
      the thermostat may be 24vac powered also.

    That oversized 2.5 ton looks like it would be a good candidate to be replaced with a 1.5 ton mid static ducted split system being a heat pump. Especially in that crawlspace for height. Do you Get involved with those at all Ted or just stick to unitary style systems?

  • @FindLiberty

    Do the evap coil fins remain dust free, or does lite dust get washed down as the condensate runs off?
    Guess you'd see any blockage problem on the gauges outside when you check the charge.
    Hate to see an empty filter bay on that return. Maybe the idea was to get some super-fine electrostatic "final" filtering for allergies? Do those electronic air filters even work at all?
    It's a treat to remote-helicopter and get to watch a pro at work! Thanks for producing these videos.

      Some dirt will wash off, but the more dirt that bypasses or passes through the filter will mean more buildup on the evaporator. If I could post pictures I would show some scary stuff. Long story short, change your filters.

    So I understand that when something goes bad on a board besides the fuse the board is considered bad, because the parts of the board are not replaceable, but basically the only thing with the board your working on is that the fan relay on it is bad??? Also you mentioned you put the mid speed wire on like that instead of a relay so that it isn't forgotten about....so you can put a relay in that will cut the fan on and off instead of wiring it the way you did??? Which I know it is not what needs to be done instead of replacing the board, I just was wondering because I didn't know you could.

    • @rj.parker
      @rj.parker 2 года назад +1

      You can fix the board if you want but by the time you diagnose the component, get it, solder and test (which can be tricky without the unit), you have to wonder if the hour and a half you have in it is worth a $50 board. Of course he went with a universal board from the Honeywell spin off.

    • @rj.parker
      @rj.parker 2 года назад +1

      He went medium speed to reduce fan noise in the house since it would be running 24x7 until he came back. If the board was left with an add on relay to hack a repair, it probably would not run the gas furnace properly in winter.

    • @analogmoz
      @analogmoz 2 года назад

      Float switches hang on the edge of a pan and need a solid column of water to lift the switch up to break the circuit. The wet switch breaks the circuit the moment they get wet, AKA a few ounces of water will do it. Or sneeze on it!
