the lyrics are a bit scandalous who is accused of being immoral by ppl who are exposed as immoral themselves and hiding behind the mask of small town propriety
The Opry in 1969 was a different kind of organization. They didn't want to talk about men sneaking around on their wives, though many of them were doing just that. They didn't want to hear their lives played out in a song, about their wives drinking or women getting pregnant and getting shipped out of town. In short, it was a whole different morality at the Opry and in America as a whole. I really miss those days. The new morality doesn't quite fit me. I was a 70's long hair. I thought we were evil little shits sneaking around smoking weed and drinking beer, but I absolutely knew right from wrong and a boy from a girl. Kids these days if they are over 16 have most likely lost a friend to a drug overdose. We lost one to a car wreck. They have been schooled to accept anything someone else says or does. I feel sorry for them. Go read any post on any channel where someone mentions God or Jesus Christ. You will see people mocked and made fun of because of their beliefs. The worst thing I ever did was sing "Plastic Jesus" to my very religious Mom. I never denied her beliefs and I still don't. I am a believer because I was raised by a believer. Dad died in 1973 leaving Mom with 4 boys, my older sisters had married moved out by that time. I was 14. I had never been to church in my life and Mom made me go a few times. I was so bad she quit making me go so for my time, I was a bad kid. I had nothing on kids today.
Because the majority of Americans were not living sedentary lifestyles back in 1969- and having all this lousy fast and junk food available to shove down their throats.
