Reichsbürger coup: Conspirators planned armed units for 'arresting and executing' people | DW News

- Germany's lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, held closed-door sessions on Monday to debate investigations into a coup plot by extremists linked to the far-right Reichsbürger movement and QAnon conspiracy theorists.
The revelations about the group's alleged plot to overthrow Germany's government have sparked widespread outrage, with a former member of parliament among those accused of taking part.
On Monday, three special committee sessions were held in the Bundestag behind closed doors.
The legal affairs committee and the interior affairs committee were holding meetings where Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government and federal prosecutors will deliver "reports and results" from the raids and provide further information about the operations.
In a third session, lawmakers posed questions to the parliamentary control committee, which is responsible for Germany's domestic and foreign intelligence services.

Wait. What? Why would you not feel proud of your police? I’m American so maybe I don’t understand.
Rarely do Germans feel proud.
@@ttrestle Because the mass media is extremely left leaning in Germany. So the usual reports you find are about all the supposed *isms the police commits.
Furthermore during Covid-19 the police had to enforce the absurdly strict rules of the government, criminalizing many citizens.
Also anti-government manifestations were forbidden and disbanded whilst protests of the left against the usual *isms very quietly tolerated.
There are of course many more things like corruption and infiltration by clan members - especially in Berlin - the (sin) capital.

You're not talking about "democracy" in Germany I believe. Germany is an occupied country by the US ever since "unconditional surrender" back in 1945. "Fundamental Law" was imposed by the winners. @@danielmartin7838 to be blunt, as we tend to be in Germany, it's a point of pride. The Grundgesetz ("Basic Law" or "Fundamental Law") is a constitution like no other. The concepts enshrined in it are in my mind an unmatched almost ideal standard for a constitution. Someone gathered a large bunch of smart Germans and tasked them to make the best constitution possible.

Social media has accelerated and globalized, but revolutions have happened as long as people have organized into communities.
It's been made far worse after the Pandemic, even in my country (a first world nation) previously seen as extremely peaceful; unrest has grown as hate for our government has festered.
Now we have new political parties trying to reform our government, as well as a movement to 'separate' our nation - which resulted in the arrest of multiple government officials who attempted to sabotage the system resulting in millions of dollars worth of losse.

The Bundestag is not "the lower house of Parliament". Germany isn't the UK or the US. The Bundestag and Bundesrat are independent government bodies and none is higher or lower than the other.
When they instigated this in Africa they never get shocked
I mean, most plots against governments and attempted coups have much more to do with those of wealth and rank feeling entitled to overturn whatever currently has the consent of the citizenship to rule than it does with firearms or access to legislative buildings. Maybe put some restrictions on wealth and rank, see how that goes?
well then the new people who legislate and enforce that limitation on wealth and rank become the successors.
seems to me we have also different cases in history, one of them in Germany, no?
Yeah. Because coups are only right wing. The vast majority of government plots that have been carried out were by communists, and they leveled their countries, or by right wing elements usually overreacting to a communist put in office which would still have leveled their country, as it always does.
That's not true at all. Many times the ones overthrowing were low ranking and no longer accepted suppression. And what is restricting rank supposed to mean? The supposed leader of the new government had no legal right anymore anyway
I do agree on the firearms though, such groups could still attempt to overthrow a government in a different way, taking away guns don't seem to solve this particular problem
Imagine that, actually arresting coup plotters instead of doing nothing like in America.
@Sanctus Paulus 1962 This is true…but only if you ignore all the evidence of plotting. Since they were only planning to overthrow the election results, and not the existing government, your theory is there can’t be a coup. With that logic, there can never be a coup that occurs during or before the ‘peaceful transfer of power’. Don’t you think your understanding might be a bit simplistic, or at least unable to understand what a coup is? Do you really want a dictator instead of battling it out and having elections, as hard as that is? You don’t respect any American values of democracy?

Example: Too much acceptance of any and most asylum petitioners from anywhere, especially from Africa, and recently from Ukraine. This has imposed a burden on all German tax-payers. Then, if NATO and the US order Germany to impose sanctions on Russia, well, no discussion about that. So now their industry is ailing, and in fact leaving Germany. "You only have to imagine how many people you can kill at the same time in a tennis hall filled with gas."
Another guy bought up former military bunkers from the withdrawing Americans: "They would also protect against a political storm..."
And the chicks felt their ovulation triggered by these guys.
Wow that is scary.
@@wordzmyth I would say that this is primarily cowardly on the part of someone who does not even dare to speak plainly about what he actually wants.

I never thought the day would come that I’d praise the German police, but here we are: good job!!!
I praise the German police.
About 100 guns and some individuals with no influence over the army , security forces or the media. Kind of a yawner.
Sounds like a Steve Bannon move
Tightening gun laws seems rather the wrong question. Most likely they were illegally acquired guns, which continues to be easy to get and surprisingly cheap. (no, I don't have any :p)
They are looking at al aspects and no doubt the acquisition of illegal weapons and the penalties for their procurement will be a high priority.
I dont know how Germans can watch a full scale coup attempt and think civilians need less guns. "Never Again" and stopping coups seems completely in the hands the police? That doesnt seem right
Really? It's not that easy.
I would actually expect at least some of those weapons to have been legally acquired. Depending on where you live and who you are, getting a firearms permit is not that hard. Expensive, certainly, but not difficult.
Now, if we're talking about *military-grade* weapons, like selective-fire rifles and machineguns . . . those are impossible to acquire legally (unless you are a gunmaker selling to approved customers, like HK or Haenel), and their possession already carries rather significant penalties.
@@jochentram9301 potentially yes, the majority however (due to the sheer amount of weapons) is likely taken illegally and I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out they come from police or military storage as in the 2019 Plot (Nordkreuz) - too many similarities that it would be surprising if they had not just as much ties as they had back then…to this day it is unclear how those tens of thousands military ammunitions could be taken and I doubt much has changed in their policies until today…i could be wrong
I think its known that those groups operated since a long time. It was communicated very openly.
You think wrong.
And you're mixing up operating and existing. We knew they exist, we didn't know they planned a coup.
Rote Armee Fraktion did the same...
But this is just as creepy
NO. They never tried to take over, which doesn't make it any better.

lies lies lies.
This should not have happened in Germany but instead in China
I thought 3,000 police to arrest 25 people ( 120 officers per arrested person ) seemed a bit over cooked. There had to be far more to this.
Well its not just a matter of physical arresting them. There are searches and the investigation will continue.
And since this is a genuine plot there is probably atleast 1 guy in every major police station given names, leads and paid hours to investigate if they have anything germane(pun not intended) to the case in their area.
And starting interviews with other suspects which they couldnt do before the case got public.
Not to mention there are probably investigators working with foreign law agencies, especially IF they suspect gun running.
So yeah its very likely there are more suspects out there to catch.
Yeah, I guess in a case like this, they even need investigators investigating investigators, investigating investigators.

Since they didn't believe in the legitimacy of the government those jail bars should help.
Because nothing says legitimacy like the boot.
“Tightening gun laws” I’m not some mere “political consequence”. Politicians have lost the plot it seems. Wanting to punish all the wrong people for all the wrong things damn near all the time and being spineless the rest of the time.
They would have needed a lot of ammo.
This is really disturbing.
Pity we can’t do this here in the Disunited States of America.

It needs to become illegal and its assets confiscated. High time - and we do have the tools.
