  • Leather pencil case handcrafted from 3-4 oz veg tan leather, featuring brass hardware and white accent stitching.
    I've been wanting to integrate zippers and interior stitching into my leatherwork for some time, so a pencil case was the perfect project to add these skills to my repertoire! A stepping stone in my quest to make a leather backpack :)
    I dyed the leather "russet brown" with Fiebings Leather Dye, making sure to wet the leather beforehand to reduce splotches. Neatsfoot oil restores moisture to the leather that is stripped out by the dye. After giving this a few hours to soak in, I finished the leather with carnauba creme - a natural, easy-to-apply finish that has the adding benefit of smelling wonderful.
    The pieces are attached with barge contact cement, reinforced with saddle stitching.
    Check out the links below for all of the tools and materials I used in this project!
    I hope this video brings you peace, relaxation and inspiration.

    I couldn't take my eyes off the video as I tried to figure out where you were going with it. After you dyed one side then sewed it on the inside my mind was almost blown....almost. Then, you turned it inside out. I'm new to this leather working thing so everything is exciting to me right now. Thanks for this.

    With some modifications, you have a bike handlebar bag 🙂 Also, forms the basis of a shaving/Dopp kit.

    Super neat circle cutter! Great looking pencil case, but I saw you putting a pen in it. I think you have made the wrong thing 🤣🤣

    Nice Morley, geez you can get away with such a tiny space for leather work. I may have to get the wifey into this style of making.

    Love it. I'm curious to know though why do you stain all of your leather? Do you prefer the look is there a way to finish it but keep the natural colour.

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, Adam! I dye some projects and leave others the natural leather colour. Just depends the look I want for that particular project. The cool thing about leaving the leather undyed is it darkens dramatically over time as it’s used and is exposed to the elements. I have some pictures on my Instagram comparing a new piece vs after a year of use!

    Awesome video, definitely got to give that a go one day! How long did it take you?

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, Callum! Not too long, a couple days on and off. I like working on a bunch of projects at the same time so I don’t have the most exact time tracking project by project
