If you want to really teach someone how to drive they need to be fully aware all the time of everything they’re doing and how it affects the overall journey. An ideal car would be a 1937 Morris 12 on cross ply tyres, drums, non synchro box and slightly scruffy leather seats with a bit of stuffing coming out. Nothing like it for making you aware of your own mortality on a duel carriageway.
@@highdownmartin I passed my test in 1971 in an Austin 1100 manual. Was required to perform hand signals ( 3 ) turn left, turn right and slowing down, all this whilst changing gear and winding down the manual window. And today using a mobile phone is considered dangerous. Go figure.
@@sanityclause5601 that’s because it is. It takes your brain away from your actual situation and is way more of a distraction than performing a series of manual tasks in quick succession
The likely reason for the colour difference in the camera is the interior camera won’t have an IR filter , so it’s recording a wider frequency of the light spectrum.
Don't think I will get an electric car anytime soon, partly because I like the whole process of driving a manual, partly because where I live wouldn't be suitable as parking on my road is the opposite side to my house, and also they are quite expensive at the moment. So for those reasons, the best I can offer you is 50 quid and a packet of space raiders for the tesla.
@Nicky L Maybe so, but those who were lured in by the Tesla reference in the title want to get to the Tesla bit. A note of the 10:27 marker would have been really appreciated.
Purple jumper is likely due to the camera picking up infra-red light. I guess the internal camera has a night mode with IR LEDs. A lot of black clothing will reflect IR light so shows up as grey or white on IR images.
I have a still camera converted to IR. I love the effect it gives, with white foliage and black/dark grey sky. It is amazing how it makes black clothing appear white!
Very sensible approach on pricing your Tesla - some people get hung up about values when they come to sell and are a bit unrealistic. Tesla's price cuts are a pain for existing owners, but seems a sound business strategy - they have enough margin to drop prices and still make a decent return. It's more important for them to keep volumes up and keep their factories running at optimum capacity. I traded my 2 year old Evoque before Christmas - the trade price went UP by £1k after I sold it, but I would also have had to pay another £1k for my MG4 if I'd bought this side of Christmas..........
It looks like the 4K option you selected is mislabelled. The additional FPS is at the cost of resolution as its listed at 1600p, rather than 2160p which is actually 4K.
One thing I would add is that Viofo cams have an optional bluetooth capture button which can be sited in a convenient place to save clips rather than trying to find the button the camera and taking your eyes off the road. 🤓
5:52 - I left the G-Sensor setting as is on my A119 and it did automatically store the files in a locked folder when my car was rear ended before which was nice. Thought it didn't record for a moment though when I was looking in the usual place! How come you turned the date stamp off?
I hear that Scimitar CVRT light reconnaissance tanks are road legal. Only 550ish litres to fill up, no tax or MOT required. Maybe you could try that for your lessons?🤷🏻♂️
Actually, one person owning multiple cars would reduce the number of cars on the road, because one person can only drive one car at once. So someone like Jay Leno is reducing traffic congestion, by having a huge collection.
Whats your reservations going auto only on the instructor side? Ive been auto only for a couple of years now. More and more prefering to learn in an auto and only going manual because they cant find an auto instructor. ( based in morecambe/lancaster )
Very interesting question! I would love for the UK to be mainly auto. But there's still a lot of manual cars. And they are cheaper to rent. And for holidays abroad in some places it's very beneficial to have a manual licence, there might not be many auto cars! I did my licence on a manual so that I'm not restricted and can drive any car if needed (for example a manual van!!!). However, when I rent a car I try to only go for auto and electric and avoid manual like plague. 😂 Not because I can't drive one, just because why would you! Auto is a much nicer experience. But I don't personally want to be in a position where I need to drive a car or a van and can't just because I have an auto licence. 😂 Although for people with a simple goal of quickly learning to drive and buying an auto car and not driving anything else, then it's probably a decent option. But it can restrict your freedom slightly (cheap cars, manual vans, holidays abroad).
Interesting indeed, I remember in 2006 when I passed that auto instructors were as rare as rocking horse shite. I had let my theory test nearly time out and couldn't get a practical test for a manual and the refresher lessons in time. So seriously looked at booking an auto test in the next town along that I'd never even been to. Scrapped the plans in the end and passed the theory again for a manual as many company cars required a manual licence and I loved changing gear in my old Civic Esi. These days I'd happily pass in an auto. My brother's partner is nearly 50 and wants to drive now, I've advised she only needs to get an auto as the electric market is building that way anyhow and she won't need to learn gears, clutch etc.
Good timing with the Viofo ad in the Driving Fail January video and this review video which I'll have to watch too as I need to buy some new dashcams for my next car coming soon after 3 years of not really driving. Previously had a Viofo A119 for the last 6 months or so before my last car was written off in a rear end while I was passenger, but only had it on the front. Definitely getting front and rear coverage this time. (just copied this comment from the driving fail one with a slight edit, but will make another if it's appropriate)
Not trying to be too critical but wouldn't it make more sense to get a regular car like a Ford focus C4 Picasso etc etc? A car that people who have just learned to drive could actually buy? Seems odd learning in a car with all these gadgets to assist you then passing and getting a 05 plate Corsa with no gadgets to help you .. I feel like that would cause issues ... I learnt in a Ford fiesta that had hill start assist and I was advised to use it... I then passed and bought an old Peugeot 206 , needless to say I was crap at holding it on hills because I never had to in the other car
With regard to dashcams, do you have any stats on how well different brands of dashcam (or at least the SD cards inside) survive severe car accidents? (Say sufficiently bad that the car was written off.) A dashcam may have all the bells and whistles but if the SD card is unreadable after a big crash - and thus provide evidence - then the dashcam has failed.
SD cards are pretty bombproof because they have no moving parts. Electromagnetic interference, fire and total destruction are the only things likely to destroy them beyond use. A big physical wreck is unlikely to destroy an SD unless it is directly struck (ie. snapped or abraded to pieces) but if the car goes up in flames then there is not much hope. The same could ultimately be said of anything short of a black box style device where it is built to survive prolonged thermal and chemical attack but for this same protection in a dashcam you'd require an impractically large and costly package. A more practical solution may be to copy to a seperate sd such as on a phone improving the chance of one card surviving in the case of a fire.
And I expected you to say that you were dumping the car because having to take your eyes off the road to look across at the touchscreen to control so many things , so often , was dangerous
I have the Viofo A129 Pro Duo which has 4K front and 1080p rear. I am very pleased with it and the 4K does help with number plate reading. Watching this video, it looks like the A139 has a wider viewing angle than the A129. Can you confirm that is the case or maybe you have a wider windscreen than me?
Viofo question: how do you recommend plugging it in? I used to just have my dash cam in the 12v lighter socket, but I’ve heard you can hardwire them but that can risk battery issues etc. Trying to figure out the best way to have it wired in my new car.
There's good tutorials online about how to do this, or you could take it to someone who does car electronics. Also if you bought one from Halfords they can do this for you.
Gave up on new cars when I bought one nine months old with 9,000 miles for 40% off list price with full 12 month manufacturers warranty from Peugeot dealer.
Your point about getting excess vehicles off the road is an important one. I’ve been a remote worker since the pandemic and my wife works in a nearby office 2 days a week, so we got rid of our second car. I think a lot of people could do the same with a bit of thought.
@@Mavermick1 Has the same effect though. That's two cars that need filling with petrol, double the emissions etc etc. Doesn't matter if they're not both moving at the same time.
Also to note is that video evidence in colour is great for court where B&W can be an issue if you ever find yourself in those places. Best to be able to identify everything as accurately as possible
@@ashley_neal so the rear camera is part of the screen unit? Is there a chance that passengers in the back could obscure it? Could you install another camera on the rear window?
4K overheating in dashcams is a real pain. I bought "TrueCam M11 GPS 4K" last year and even in mild summer temperatures it overheats all the time (it uses H.265 codec for 4K and the chip is working really hard). I even glued some passive heatsinks all around the camera body, but it didn't help much. I had to change the resolution to normal FullHD (and older H.264 codec) and that works with no problem, but obviously I wanted 4K and this is not a solution... So if anyone has a tip on 4K dashcam that doesn't overheat easily, please let me know. (Or I will at least wait till summer to see how this A139 Pro fares :)).
Realtime 4k encoding requires a LOT more CPU power than 1080p and that amount of "maths right now" uses significant electrical power on cheap high nm silicon. I think any dashcam that did it better that simply processing 1080p by quartering pixels and maybe anti-aliasing them would be prohibitively expensive to produce right now. To be honest, 1080p and good optics and sensor is more beneficial than 4k for me.
Can't help but look at your watch. An _Oris Aquis Date_ on the bracelet. Can't tell if it's the newish 400 calibre or an older one, but very nice none-the-less. Looks smart.
That fact the Tesla price dipped because of Elons politics show how inflated Tesla's prices are. If the CEO of Ford was seen kicking a puppy, I doubt the secondhand prices of Fords would change.
Elon's politics... lol. You don't understand the market, this is not new. 'When a leading company cuts prices, all their rivals feel pressure to follow suit - it's economics 101. And the textbook scenario is playing out in the headlines. On Monday, Ford announced it was cutting prices on the Mustang Mach-E, an electric SUV that competes against Tesla's Model Y. Prices dropped by between $900 and $5,900, depending on the vehicle's options. It was clearly a response to Tesla, and Marin Gjaja, the chief customer officer of Ford's electric vehicle business, confirmed to reporters that the company was "responding to changes in the marketplace." The big question now may be whether other companies can afford to follow suit. Tesla, which started out as an automotive underdog, now has become the overwhelming market leader in the EV sector. It makes healthy profits on electric vehicles that big automakers are, in many cases, still making at a loss - or struggling to make at volume.'
That is a lovely car Ashley. If I had the money I would buy it. It would be ideal for me as I work in the community for the NHS. I am going to save up and get a Vifio camera due to the mileage and town driving I do.
@@blzebub2 Yeah in about 30 years time....Tesla battery lifespan is 300-500k miles, and that's for the NMC/NCA types....the LFP battery in this standard range will outlast the rest of the car.
I've seen a lot of clips from America showing Tesla drivers sleeping behind the wheel. So I thought it would be an interesting option when you need an extra rest especially on slow British motorways where many drivers sleep while driving anyway. Would this be feasible in the UK or would it be impossible due to potholes in the streets and excessive noise?
Full Self Driving is in Beta in North America and is not available anywhere else yet (although there are rumours that Tesla staff are testing it on UK roads). Whilst FSD is intended to allow the driver to fall asleep when complete, there are no systems available today that allow that. If you've seen RUclips videos of people sleeping at the wheel in Teslas then it's of people using the Autopilot and/or FSD Beta systems improperly, and bypassing the driver alertness monitoring Tesla employ. You should have your hands on the wheel and be ready to take over at any time right now. We don't know when FSD will exit Beta and be ready to allow the car to drive itself but it could be several years from now for the USA, let alone the UK. FSD should eventually try to avoid potholes, though that is not in the Beta feature set yet. Road noise on newer 3/Y vehicles is much reduced as they have double glazing on front and rear door windows and better acoustic dampening in general. For best Tesla sound dampening however, you'd be looking at the more luxurious Model S or X.
Funny that you’re now sticking with the Golf because I’ve just sold mine. It’s been nothing but problems since I bought it and I’ve finally had enough so I’ve part ex’d it for a Kona N. I don’t think you’d have happily done a part ex on another problem mk8 so I think it works for both of us that a dealer can deal with it.
Don't think many people are buying EVs at 40/50k to sit on the path.. but then not many people gonna be buying them now that all the companies, and wealthy have got one..
Attended a fire marshall update in my workplace and the senior trainer from the brigade was very against lithium in any vehicle and I must say after hearing and seeing some examples I won't be putting any of my family in an EV or near a charging vehicle. Is this what's on your mind underneath this?
VAT qualifying? I can see that would apply on the "tool of the trade" that you use for teaching, which are *exclusivly* used for business use. But if you've done a trip the supermarket in the Tesla, that is private use, so it is no longer exclusive business use, which means it would not be VAT qualifiying. My Ltd bought my Tesla, which is my company car, which is also used for personal use, so I couldn't claim the VAT back, and when I sell it, I'm not sure how the accountant will do the VAT on it. Same for the Soul EV that the other half drives. But if I get a VAN or a pickup for another member of staff, that would be VAT qualifying. but there aren't any nice dual/king cab electric VANs at the moment.
Yeah I'm not sure he was saying that for his own ownership, but for the person who wants to buy it from him that they may be able to get VAT Qualifying benefits potentially but yeah could be tricky with what you say. His Golf GTI on the other hand though which is used for teaching is maybe different. Same with my driving instructor and his car but I have a feeling he is on a lease or finance agreement and changes every few years. With my own work I included the price of my initial setup equipment which I have bought over previous years and still use along with any upgrades, even if it is also used for personal use. I did debate whether to put 50% of costs down (to split between business time and personal time) instead but discussing it with my mum who's done her own self assessments for years, it's easier to just claim the whole thing as it doesn't make a difference in my case. Total revenue was under the national allowance and then the profit after subtracting initial costs is clearly also, so I don't get any tax advantage. Regarding the supermarket shops, couldn't there be a slight loophole if he say bought some driving tuition related items on such journeys also i.e. L or P plates or items needed for car maintenance. Plus still got to fuel yourself somehow in order to do your work by getting the groceries. If you drove it to a football match or a road trip to a certain destination then I think that would be more difficult?
@@Stallzyx there are different rules for Limited company and sole trader/partnerships I was only thinking of how the rules apply to a Ltd company or PLC, like mine where HMRC have a magic phrase about "exclusive business use" and the HMRC handbook has an example that says if you occasionally stop at the supermarket on the way back from a business trip/job, you are ok. But if you get home, you are not allowed to do a seperate trip to go out. if you ever do, then the vehical has "personal use", so it is not "exclusive business use" and the vehicle is then stripped of it's VAT qualifyng status. and the business is not allowed to reclaim the VAT on the original purchase. and once the VAT chain is broken, it's not qualifying for sale to any subsequent VAT registered business, only on the "margin scheme" for a motor trader (which I don't know about, because it wouldn't apply to my business) It's horrible. It's why big business usually only buy brand new cars and not anything 2nd hand or even dealer showroom/demo/pre-registered vehicles
well its something we’ll all do again in the future (by 2030). Wonder if there will be a market at some point for EV learners? Mostly just automatic though I guess?
Will have to speak to my brother. He's just recently switched jobs, and is trying to load all his stock onto Tesla. Hope he's got enough cash floating around, as I know he's after a Model 3, since his Kia Ceed (First one registered in the UK) is getting somewhat old now. He lives in the north west of England.
I love my e2008, could do with a little more mileage so just need to plan my longer journeys particularly coming up to Manchester. Good price by the way, I’d have gone for that a year ago!
Personally I can’t see any difference…because the best I can stream is 1080p/60-my internet is too slow for 4K streaming. Just buffering the whole time. I don’t know many people with electric cars. One couple bought a new Ford Mach e….got rid after 1 year and replaced with a petrol car. they said the only reason was range…or the lack of….just never got near the claimed range. For 36k, the new Nissan leaf is an option (new) as well.
Morning Ashley, going by the dashcam segment at the beginning. I recently bought a Nextbase 522gw cam with a rear window cam that slots into the side of it. The footage is great but skips recording every 40-60 seconds where it will jump several seconds. I read that this was due to memory card speed. So i have bought myself a 64gb Nextbase own pro memory card, hoping that this fixes the buffering. What are your thoughts on Nextbase dashcams? It wasn't exactly cheap.
Personally I would look at other rivals once you go to the higher levels of Nextbase. I own a Nextbase 222X which has front a rear cam and 128gb microSD for less than £100 at the time. It has served me well over 3 years with no video errors. I backup the footage on to external hard drives to review and occasional post incidents once in a while.
@@konradc12 Possibly it was memory card speed, i reduced it to 30fps at 1080p and the skipping got a little less. At the minute i use a PNY 32gb standard micro SD card so i'm hoping when my Nextbase 64gb Pro memory card arrives it will hopefully reduce the lag down to zero. I don't mind keeping it at 1080p 30fps. That quality will still read number plates.
@@rufusgreenleaf2466 Hi mate, I work as a videographer so I'm used to memory cards vs cameras. Your issue will 100% be due to memory card read/write speed as you guessed. For video (as opposed to photography) you should be looking at the MB/s of the card to ensure you don't get frame drops (that skipping you mentioned). You've done right to reduce the FPS of the camera in the meantime, as fewer frames per second means less info for the card to write. You could also reduce the resolution from 1080p to 720p if possible, but that will make your footage look worse. Anyway, looks like your new card is 100MB/s compared to your old one which is 10MB/s, so this should clear up your issue :)
I bought the 622GW last week and returned it to Amazon within a few days, they haven't got any better since I had one several years ago. For some reason it kept dropping resolution when the vehicle was switched off/on. Agree that the plug in rear camera is surprisingly good. I have gone back to VIOFO, I had the A119 V3 in my last car and have now bought the A129 Plus Duo. Much better and far cheaper than the Nextbase.
@@sakram1370 To be fair after doing some research, the 32gb PNY micro SD i use is very basic. At 10mb/s compared to the 64gb Nextbase Micro Pro SD card at 100mb/s that i will be getting. It should reduce the buffered to zero. As for quality, when viewing on the computer the resolution doesn't go down it stays the same. My problem as i've explained is just processing speed, which i hope to fix. Will do an edit on this feed when the memory card arrives.
Over 20 years NCB here and the Tesla Model 3 LR AWD (with Power Boost) insurance has drifted up from £550 to about £700 since I bought in 2019. Roughly 7,000 miles annually.
The model 3 is due a refresh in the near future (codename "highlander", there's prototypes with covers over the altered sections in the US) so now is the best time to sell in my opinion.
Isn't that still 9+ months away? Rumours were late 2023, though I suppose Elon could do some sort of announcement at the next Tesla investor day (which is 01/03/23)
Seems logical your reasons especially the work side of things. I learned in a manual but have only driven an automatic hybrid (Yaris) and my Zoe EV since passing and I'll be frank I think it's a shame us here in the UK are so stubbornly set in our manual driving ways, and continue to push learning manual and buying manual so hard. The rest of the world caught on to the practicality of automatics years ago, and modern autos are excellent cars. Plus we'll be going the way of EVs eventually so no gears there either. I really feel that driving auto is easier (even if you find manual a breeze, auto is less stuff to be doing, can't argue with this) and therefore safer IMO especially for new and learner drivers. SO many people I know are not confident drivers at all, but they don't use an auto car because it's not the norm. If nobody had to use any part of their brain switching gears at roundabouts etc they could be using more of their brain to check for hazards. If we truly want cars to be safer, we should be removing pointless tasks like changing gears.
I couldn’t agree more; I’ve worked in the motor trade & I can tell u that the amount of older drivers coming in with clutch plates literally falling apart in my technicians hands was criminal! I went over to automatic transmission years ago when I was diagnosed with ms - having hand controls fitted it I need them is kinda gonna b much easier in an automatic, with the added advantage with automatic driving for me is a whole lot easier anyway! Plus the traffic where I live is really bad so it’s a no brainier to go auto! I also now have an EV & it’s amazing! I don’t cover masses of amounts of mileage and it’s costs me sooooo much less to charge her up than it would to keep stuffing petrol in a car of similar size! I was only getting around 70 miles in my petrol car for £20 worth of petrol but now if I charge from say 40% to full, it’s only costing around £4! We r with octopus energy and they have given us a tariff from 00:30 - 04:30 when our electricity is only 12p per kwhr instead of 43p hence the car is charged up then and the dishwasher & washing machine (on a timer delay) goes on too!
@@LabradorLady You are fortunate to have the ability to recharge at home, at any domestic tariff, let alone such a heavily discounted overnight tariff. Without access to off-street parking many millions of us are not so lucky as to be able to recharge at _any_ domestic rate - the nearest recharging point to me is about 2 miles away at 69p/kwhr.
@@LabradorLady There is one thing lacking in many autos, engine braking. Also, changing gear once experienced uses almost no thinking power, it is completely subconscious and muscle memory. If I could afford to go electric, and it was suitable for me professionally it would be a no brainer, as I have 3phase mains at home so could install superchargers. As is the purchase costs are too high, and there are no suitable vehicles around In my old diesel estate I do far better than 70 miles for £20, even when diesel was 2 quid a litre. I would have done even better without a boot full of work kit :) Even my ancient 4x4 can make 70/20 and thats 25 years old, with a 3.1l engine, an ancient 4sp auto and all in weight of over 3tonnes. But then, I don't spend my days sat in urban rush hour traffic commuting or running to the shops, which can be more expensive of course. Although the estate car will still manage 55mpg doing that, but is not ULEZ compliant.
I've waited more than 5 months and now what's worse is being told you're still not ready to take it! I've had like almost 100 hours now and three mock tests where I've made one serious error and a few minors in each so that's not awful but my instructor still feels I'm not quite there yet 😑😒😔. Basically he feels like I'm not like the average learner, where usually you'll be able to pinpoint where the weaknesses are. For me the main issue is focus and my mistakes are slightly more random. He did say he can't really teach me anything new at this point because he feels I know what to do: I have all the skills to drive and have all the potential, very good car control etc but can't maintain the level for long enough due to lack of concentration. Like I'll drive really well for 30 mins and then make a mistake, dwell on it, lose focus then make another error and so on. Then my negative thoughts remind me how useless I am for taking this long. I'm almost 40 so age doesn't help but after this many hours I should be there. It is really demoralising. I've had three instructors with some bad experiences with the previous two, some big gaps in between like a month with no driving. I feel very inadequate and worthless as a human being. I've never been that confident in myself so this isn't helping. I feel like there has to be something really wrong with me to fail like this. I'm already a failure in life, unfulfilling admin job, haven't had a relationship in many years. I wish I was never born. Hate what I've become. Anyway regardless, Monday I'll have a final mock test and then decide if I need to delay the test which will be difficult to accept after so many hours and lessons and money. I just want to give it a shot but apparently, if an instructor puts forward a pupil for their test when they're not ready, it can reflect badly on the instructor. Is that right?
I wonder if you'd benefit more from seeing a psychiatrist rather than further driving lessons? Obviously I'm not suggesting that there is anything dramatically wrong with your mind but they might be able to help you with concentration and recovery from mistakes. It won't be cheap but neither are driving lessons. It has little to do with the instructor when/if you want to take the test, they only have to be prepared to lend you the car, they don't have to sign off on your proficiency or take any responsibility for your success/failure. Obviously you shouldn't flat out ignore the advice of your driving instructor if it is relevant but it's ultimately your money and your choice.
Just take the test, if you pass you pass. Fail you retake - so what? No one cares, just don’t tell anyone until you pass and chill out I passed car and bike second time round.
@@majordelays4909 @No name Well I have an update, in my last lesson I drove up to test standard so my instructor is happy to put me forward for the test on Tues. So I'm relieved in that respect but obviously will be very nervous.

I'm pleased to hear that you've found EV ownership to be a good experience. Slightly disappointed that you are selling perhaps, but i completely understand the reasons to sell. Over here in Norway a lot of instructors have moved over to EVs, but it's going to be a few years before the UK makes that change i think.
@@DonBarracuda117 Trust me, it's better than France. I have no problems charging in the UK when i drive round europe in summer, but france is a total catastrophe.
@@stevesmith7530 That is actually very dependent on where you live. With 80% of new car sales here now being EV's, the need for a manual license is fading fast. There is just no demand.
@@15bit62 New car sales are not much of a metric to judge by. Would love a Tesla like this, although at the moment, I need a 7 seater for logistical reasons with my autistic son. What you are asking is not much more than my 4 year old RX-L is currently worth so ordinarily I would jump at the chance, but until some electric car comes along with 7 spacious seats (that I can afford!) I have to stick with what I have got. I am looking at the cameras though 🙂
I've had 3 dashcams and the Viofo has by far been the best. I currently use a Nextbase 522GW and it is a very good camera, but trying to link up to my phone is a bit of a mare. I use the Viofo in my other car and linking up to my phone is just so easy. The quality both in day time and night time is easily as good as the Nextbase, perhaps slightly better. I'll be changing my dashcam soon in the school car and it will be the Viofo. (Keep that discount link going for a while longer please!!)
@@Badger-w8u In the past I've use the footage to instantly replay to my pupil as a helpful aid to learning, so not being able to use the smart phone due to connectivity is a bit frustrating. The Viofo, on the other hand, links up very quickly.

Enjoyed the video, Ashley. Can I ask, is the RUclips feed we see from your dash-cams or from a Go-Pro, or something similar. I am thinking of changing my dash-cam but I wasn’t impressed with the resolution of the 4K as it was still difficult to read number plates and virtually impossible whilst on the move! Perhaps some resolution is lost on getting the images to my device? Lastly, I’m not a great fan of pure electric cars at the moment, in their present guise. This is for a number of reasons. 1: I think the motor industry is pricing these new vehicle higher than need be, claiming development costs. However, one doesn’t need to look far to see vehicles retro-fitted with electric motors for a similar price. Now, with the might of the motor industry I don’t think it’s too difficult or costly to design a new electric vehicle as they are relatively simple compared to an ICE vehicle. 2: Batteries are very expensive and not fully developed enough yet plus the mining of the raw materials needed is harmful to both the employees off these companies and the planet - which is the point… we are trying to protect it! 3: The charging infrastructure is a licence to print money, in my humble opinion and is not presently practice. We should go for a system of battery swap, whereby the batteries are exchanged by being pulled out from under the car on a tray and swapped over with fresh. The low charged batteries from the car can then be charged, ready for the next customer. This may need some standardisation. Not something to avoid, I think. I believe this system is adopted in the far east. Lastly, I think the best solution at the moment is still the hybrid - no anxiety, fast fuelling and, on average, somewhere in the region of 70 to 100 mpg. My apologies for the super long comment but I hope it is worthy of interest to some.
minor thing Ash with the Wi-Fi 5Ghz Connection it mentioned, its different from Wireless Mobile Phone Networking known as 5G. in terms of your Home Internet, your Router is likely to use the 2.4 and 5Ghz Frequencies in a wireless capacity to ensure wireless devices maintain a mostly stable connection to the Internet and have a faster data transfer speed, such as a Smart Telly or a Games console, 5G is a generational thing with Cellular Communication (Our Mobile Phones when out and about), its basically the 5th Generation of technology relating to Mobile Phones and in terms of actual Radio Frequency, they don't have anything to do with each other, 5Ghz is wireless connectivity spectrum for private use in the home, 5G is much higher power in terms of Frequency, i think in the region of 30 Ghz to ensure the wider public using Mobile Phones as well as some industrial requirements have connectivity as well as faster Data Transfer speeds compared to 4G
in this case, your Viofo has a network that allows you to connect to it to retrieve footage as you are obviously aware, but it default operates in the 2.4 GHZ range and as a result has a slower data transfer rate to your phone when recovering footage via your mobile phone. using the 5Ghz connectivity would more or less half the time it took to download a clip from the camera.
That would've been pretty bad if it hadn't gone right, viofo install, but looked cool as, for VIOFO 👌 - Ashley's selling that bigtime as it looks very good, especially after this..

@@sanityclause5601 that’s because it is. It takes your brain away from your actual situation and is way more of a distraction than performing a series of manual tasks in quick succession
Finally, a trustworthy "one careful driver" claim.
The likely reason for the colour difference in the camera is the interior camera won’t have an IR filter , so it’s recording a wider frequency of the light spectrum.
This exactly. My work's CCTV cameras are exactly the same and they don't have an IR filter for night vision with IR LEDs.
I loved how you had a folder of apps on the second page of your phone called 'Shite' 😂
There's a whole host of other reasons too
Space raiders? That's an unbeatable offer, right there!
Did I just watch a 10 minute dashcam advert? I’m gutted.
Nice to see an in-depth review which shows the app as well as the camera.
Can't believe I just sat through a 20 minute advert though! 😳 :😀

It looks like the 4K option you selected is mislabelled. The additional FPS is at the cost of resolution as its listed at 1600p, rather than 2160p which is actually 4K.
I would suggest having date-stamp on.
Proves what time/date incidents happen
One thing I would add is that Viofo cams have an optional bluetooth capture button which can be sited in a convenient place to save clips rather than trying to find the button the camera and taking your eyes off the road. 🤓

Looks like at 30fps its not actually 4k (2160p) but 1600p which is closer to 3k. As you said though probably better to have the higher framerate.
I hear that Scimitar CVRT light reconnaissance tanks are road legal. Only 550ish litres to fill up, no tax or MOT required. Maybe you could try that for your lessons?🤷🏻♂️
what side of your windscreen have you mounted the a139, is it on the drivers side?
Actually, one person owning multiple cars would reduce the number of cars on the road, because one person can only drive one car at once. So someone like Jay Leno is reducing traffic congestion, by having a huge collection.
Technically, that makes no difference, a good one still 😉
Whats your reservations going auto only on the instructor side?
Although for people with a simple goal of quickly learning to drive and buying an auto car and not driving anything else, then it's probably a decent option.
Got the feeling less people travelling about and commuting after COVID and more working from home especially on their Amazon Prime deliveries.

And I expected you to say that you were dumping the car because having to take your eyes off the road to look across at the touchscreen to control so many things , so often ,
was dangerous

That fact the Tesla price dipped because of Elons politics show how inflated Tesla's prices are. If the CEO of Ford was seen kicking a puppy, I doubt the secondhand prices of Fords would change.
Who remembers Gerald Ratner 🤔
Elon's politics... lol. You don't understand the market, this is not new.
'When a leading company cuts prices, all their rivals feel pressure to follow suit - it's economics 101.
And the textbook scenario is playing out in the headlines.
On Monday, Ford announced it was cutting prices on the Mustang Mach-E, an electric SUV that competes against Tesla's Model Y. Prices dropped by between $900 and $5,900, depending on the vehicle's options.
It was clearly a response to Tesla, and Marin Gjaja, the chief customer officer of Ford's electric vehicle business, confirmed to reporters that the company was "responding to changes in the marketplace."
The big question now may be whether other companies can afford to follow suit. Tesla, which started out as an automotive underdog, now has become the overwhelming market leader in the EV sector.
It makes healthy profits on electric vehicles that big automakers are, in many cases, still making at a loss - or struggling to make at volume.'

@@Stallzyx there are different rules for Limited company and sole trader/partnerships

if you ever do, then the vehical has "personal use", so it is not "exclusive business use" and the vehicle is then stripped of it's VAT qualifyng status. and the business is not allowed to reclaim the VAT on the original purchase.

"the quality isn't brilliant" (teslacam images)
understatement of the year
Morning Ashley, going by the dashcam segment at the beginning.
When I pause this vid the number plates on cars whizzing by are pretty clear.

Rumours were late 2023, though I suppose Elon could do some sort of announcement at the next Tesla investor day (which is 01/03/23)
Typical current Tesla owner: more money than sense.
Typical former Tesla owner: less money than sense.
As is the purchase costs are too high, and there are no suitable vehicles around
In my old diesel estate I do far better than 70 miles for £20, even when diesel was 2 quid a litre.
If you learn on an auto you cant drive a manual on the licence...
I pay 46p/kWh on resident rate in London. It’s cheaper than my domestic tariff and it gets me free parking at the same time when I’m charging.
A year! Where's the time gone?
At last I found out! It's an Oris Aquis!
Not gonna lie, to an extent it sounds like your instructor is just taking you for as much money as he can.
@@Narthalion I have been wondering that. I don't know. He has got excellent reviews
No one cares, just don’t tell anyone until you pass and chill out
I passed car and bike second time round.
@@majordelays4909 @No name Well I have an update, in my last lesson I drove up to test standard so my instructor is happy to put me forward for the test on Tues. So I'm relieved in that respect but obviously will be very nervous.
I will buy it off you, only one issue though, I can only afford £3,000 😁
13:01 Fair play, too few people think in these terms. The more we get used to being a bit more responsible with our ecological footprint the easier that gets.
What terms?
@Andrew Fishburn not holding onto a car that's been produced that's no longer needed (especially a new, well maintained, low milage EV) as it's more environmental friendly to buy a good second hand car than order a new one
@@CED99 So what you're saying, is that the Cash For Clunkers Program was not only a waste of taxpayer's money, but also an ecological disaster to boot? Noted.
Free delivery on orders over 36k, nice 👌
I'm pleased to hear that you've found EV ownership to be a good experience. Slightly disappointed that you are selling perhaps, but i completely understand the reasons to sell. Over here in Norway a lot of instructors have moved over to EVs, but it's going to be a few years before the UK makes that change i think.
our infrastructure in the UK is terrible, our switch to EV will lag far behind the EU .
My daughter is due to start driving soon, and whilst i would like her to learn and pass in a manual transmission (for the obvious reasons you point out) it is surprisingly hard to find an instructor with a manual car. There is just no demand.
@@15bit62 New car sales are not much of a metric to judge by. Used are far more prevalent, even dino-fuel autos have yet to make any kind of saturation into the used market, especially at a price point for new drivers. With all the costs involved, practically zero new drivers get a new car, 10 years old is far more common,
@@stevesmith7530 As i've commented elsewhere here, 20% of the registered cars in Norway are now EVs. So whilst you are correct that it takes time for such turnover to happen, in norway at least it is happening.
I have a Nextbase 622GW but no smart phone which is not a problem for me .
@@Badger-w8u In the past I've use the footage to instantly replay to my pupil as a helpful aid to learning, so not being able to use the smart phone due to connectivity is a bit frustrating. The Viofo, on the other hand, links up very quickly.
9K loss in 6/8 months that's a lot of driving lessons !
yea that's a big hit to take. all those profits from lessons gone
Your math doesn't add up... it's a 14mth old car so the list price was ~42k back then, including 20% VAT, which he was able to claim back as it was purchased through his media company.
My offer is $5. Take it or leave it.
That would've been pretty bad if it hadn't gone right, viofo install, but looked cool as, for VIOFO 👌 - Ashley's selling that bigtime as it looks very good, especially after this..
Nice sales pitch 🙂
Just bought the 2k, not realising there was a 4k😅
I would still buy the 2K myself 👍
@@ashley_neal that’s made me feel a lot better actually, thanks.
That's good. You are helping alleviate the crime of child slavery in lithium and cobalt mines, and getting rid of a Betamax product! 😉
I like the look of the new EV Jeep Avenger which start at £36k but your Tesla is well worth £36k. I have looked into hybrid cars as well. Wouldn’t mind the hybrid equivalent to my current Honda CRV
I have a hybrid Rav 4. What a car! Not dissimilar to the CRV. Either would be a good choice. You won't regret it. I absolutely LOVE my Rav.
@@BigPaul3122 my CRV turns 20 years old next month. It’s my first car since passing my test at the ripe old age of 54 🤣 Hoping to keep it for a couple more years but I suppose it depends what it’s next MOT reveals when I take it in ten days time. Hopefully nothing major.
Tesla should put a promotion on free wind farm with every car.
Good move selling the Tesla. Values are plummeting.
I haven't really looked but I would think values of all used cars are plummeting due most likely to the cost of living crisis but I guess it suits the narrative to slag off the Tesla. :-)
@@st200ol Have a look at Doug Demuro's very recent YT video on this subject.
@@st200ol EVs and Teslas specifically have tanked in price over the last 2 months, they are being sold at 10+% below their market value (often times more). The demand for used Teslas has plummeted
@@TehGamersCentral OK I stand corrected, so its not a good time to sell a Tesla then I would personally hang on to it for 12 months, all the media stuff will blow over and prices will recover, maybe.
@@st200ol what's the narrative? Tesla have dropped the price of new cars, so the second hand market is taking a hit too as a result. That's just how it is without any narrative.
Skip to 10:30 to watch why he is selling his Tesla
*All* EV's are in freefall atm... Nothing to do with Elon Musk's recent escapades.
its more to do with the car market slowing down, the energy crisis (specifically volatility of electricity prices), recession and all the realities of EV ownership are surfacing. And for Tesla specifically I believe their new cars have come down in value which effects the used market.
