That was nuts. Up until now I didn't even try to picture how ELP originally managed to play Tarkus. When the album came out I just heard something assault me from the vinyl via the speakers. It sure sounded like an anthem for going to war.

Very nice!! And very respectful in memory of Keith Emerson. The genius, the master and the visionary of the prog, of the piano and organ rock. Rest in Peace, Keith.
Wow...you did ELP and their music proud. Every one was at the top their game on this piece. I know this music well, and your performance was as inspired, as it was flawless.
Add these guys to the list of talented musicians who are keeping the ELP memory alive! Well done and thank you for your excellent rendition of TARKUS from one of ELP's biggest fans.
To the drummer. I had played Tarkus a thousand times before you were born. Tipping hat. You nailed it my friend. Not just good. Freaking awesome. Carl would be proud. All you guys did fantastic. So nice to see this amazing music being played by a younger generation. Don’t ever stop. This is when rock was great.
What an achievement! My hat's off to you gentlemen. Every few years I find yet another interpretation of one of the greatest prog compositions of all time. You have done an amazing job of managing the timing, the changes and the tonal complexities of this. Hearing this has made my day.
I feel lucky to have seen ELP a few times back in the day. I saw the tour where Emerson strapped himself into his bench seat and the piano and him spun around while he played and palmers drum set spun around in a circle during his solo. Also had Quad speaker set up on floor of civic center. Blew our minds!!!
I’m so jealous! I remember seeing that on the broadcast of California Jam. Totally mind-blowing. My only experience seeing them was on the Works tour *after* they had disbanded the orchestra. Disappointing, but still really amazing. (It was strange. I only heard about the concert by a DJ mentioning that they would be around sometime after playing Fanfare. I went home and checked and they were playing in town THAT NIGHT! He must have wanted to give a shout out, but because they hadn’t bought any ads couldn’t do more than that.)
Jam up guys. Exceptional and very well played. Probably one of my first memories. That album cover. Remember it like yesterday, my oldest brother had it and thought the cover was just something out of this world. That was something close to 50 year's ago. But yet everytime I hear ELP my mind goes straight to that place in time. Thanks you for covering a great, and doing a great job .
Oh yea ! Now this is more like it perfectly perfect really great job God bless you boys for keeping their memories alive and well just the voice of Greg which could never be replaced is missing but man you guys nailed it thanks
Yes, i second that. That Genesis video is mindboggling, great to see the prog legends' legacy carrying on like this. All about talent, hard work and dedication. Us prog fans appreciate, so don't stop !
Former professional drummer. Eruption is, by far, one of the most dynamic prog rock compositions. The drummer nailed it. That is surprising, saw them 4 times in concert, and never played it exactly like the awsome studio version. Always a little faster, less cohesive. You guys killed it.....
One of my favorites, former musician. I'll tell you-that is a difficult song to play-with any resemblance to the studio version. When testing new speakers, this first, Karnevil 9, 1st, Movement, King Crimson Red, Lark's Tounges in Aspic 2, one thing. I've heard many covers of this song-best drum performance of any cover. This guy quite properly '' attacks '' this song. Cymbal selection excellent. Well done..........
One thing only would take the whole thing to an even higher plane, I reckon: Keith Emerson, along with Jon Lord and a few of the other truly great rock organists, knew the secret of really crisp phrasing that the best classical (pipe) organists brought to the likes of Bach fugues and such: the single most important thing is to lift *off* each note at the exact moment when it stops being essential.
Your right Keith was great. i got to see ELP once at the Royal albert Hall in 1992 and then Keith with the Nice in 2005 (i think) where i got to shake his hand and finally at the Barbican a few years ago just before he sadly left us. Thank you guys fir this.
In an alternative dimension, this is the 1992 tour Tarkus intro and ending (Aquatarkus solo is in the middle of the show) Thanks for the sublime work. RIP Keith Emerson. Thanks to help people don't forget him
ELP LIVES !!!!! rendition extremely close to original sound and style with great accuracy. Add a singer and do the whole thing !! Excellent musicianship !! There is hope for the world !!
Playing the bass drum part with two feet gives it a power and fullness that the original never had. Also, the drum sound is superb. The multi-keyboard playing is fantastic and everyone's understanding of the song is so solid. . . A great rendition of a very difficult bit of music. Except for adding a singer so you could do the whole thing, I don't see how it could be improved. Fantastic.
Very nicely done guys! I like the intensity, a bit more than the original - but pushing it sounds good. I see the concentration in all of your faces and remember the five times I saw ELP in concert and the almost relaxed look when they played the opening of Tarkus. That in itself shows the magnitude of Keith, Carl and Greg's talent! Thank you all for your work and dedication to the art. Oh, and I'm an 30 year recording engineer that has worked with the likes of Mannheim Steamroller and Stevie Ray Vaughan and your mixes are very well done as well… Hear Hear!
When I saw ELP, that relaxed appearance resulted in a performance (by Emerson and Lake) that fell short of the quality of their studio recordings. (I never saw Carl Palmer at anything less than 100%). What Messrs. Baril, Pacaud, & Gregoire have accomplished here amounts to a live performance that is technically, and to my ear, musically, perfect. Gentlemen, you are virtuosos, second to none. Congratulations on this video. Make an album. Make several albums. And please do not hire a singer. A singer would detract from the perfection.
Mr Burgess, I agree, I've NEVER seen Carl "phone it in." He always seemed as though he was bringing it ALL to each performance. Greg? Well, he's a bass player in addition to straight up guitar virtuoso. Bass players are supposed to "look cool and understated," right? Keith? That man was a born superman on the keys, so his relaxed look I mentioned above was probably only when he wasn't "pushing it" to be the flamboyant front man he strove to be! The last time I saw them in person at an amphitheater in Kansas City, I had close enough seats to Keith that I could see the pain he was enduring with his right arm and hand as he played. I felt dearly for him.
@@maxwdg Wow, great comment. You saw technical mastery at work onstage, and especially Keith at his most vulnerable. Wow. The music world lost another virtuoso when he left us, not to mention Greg Lake. These past few years have not been kind to us and our musical heroes.
Terrific playing! I will never forget the first time I heard ELP - I think "Tank" is the first album track I heard at a friend's house sometime late 1970 to early 71 and I ran right out and bought the album for myself. I must have heard Lucky Man on the radio first but "Tank" was the tune that sparked me to buy the album. I had never before heard anything like that Moog at the end of the tune 🤩
Wow...goes to show you just how difficult some of those ELP pieces are ...and this is just a small part of the entire 'suite'! Excellent music, excellent playing!
I was fortunate enough to see ELP play at Stanley Park Stadium in Toronto on Aug. 12 / 1971. So let's say I've been a fan for a while. Your rendition of Tarkus is very impressive. Surprised the heck out of me. 5 stars boys. And the mix is fantastic. Love the drum sound.
It's simply wonderful! I play piano by ear, and one of my greatest dreams in my life has always been being able to play the Hammond part of Tarkus, but I can't read music, and so I keep on dreaming watching these incredible guys recreate the perfect sound of ELP! Hi Keith, Hi Greg, and hi to you Carl!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ Sorry for my english, I'm writing from Italy
I don’t know about that. It was never my favorite, but most other ELP fans claimed that it was their best. But ELP never gets the respect they deserve as does progressive rock on the whole (Pink Floyd excepted).

Epic
Greg's bass is mostly hidden...
YOUNG PEOPLE playing 70's music what a concept freakin awesome
Saw ELP 6x
Perfectly played. I could easily mistake this for the real ELP
That takes a lot of balls to jump into a tune like that!! Bravo!!
Awesome....happy to see a new generation with such fondess for old-school Prog. Thanks guys.
My prayer goes to Keith and Greg.. their spirit will stay forever in these fine musicians' soul.
But where is their spirit? Did they have theirs sins forgiven by Jesus? Or do they regret everything they did wrong for all eternity?
