advise to all: for testing and comparising speakers ALWAYS use rock music with real instruments that takes all frequencies (hihat, snare, bass, electric guitars) not an intro song with only keyboards like on this video.
The hiss and static is typically caused by improper grounding and has been a common complaint with these monitors. This can be easily fixed by using a 2-channel (stereo) passive direct input box (or DI box) with a “ground” switch on it. A couple of inexpensive examples are the Rolls DB24 and the Klark Teknik DI AV 22P. Also, another common complaint with the Eris series monitors can be not having enough signal, or power, coming from the source to adequately drive the monitors. This may give people the impression that the monitors amplifiers don’t have enough power. That’s why I use a small preamplifier between my source (PC audio card stereo out) and the DI box, and then from the DI box XLR OUT to the monitors. The preamplifier “boosts” the signal to the monitors. In my case, the signal path is: PC stereo out > preamplifier > DI box > monitors. I love these monitors!
nah there's a base white noise that occurs even when no audio source is connected and the gain is at zero, even tried different rooms/outlets and it still remains...as soon as you turn them on and the amp kicks in you can hear it thru the tweeter...I can hear it over my pc fans which is pretty shit, sucks cause they sound great
I've always found front firing Bass ports the best ! that way, your low end isn't blasted at the wall and you're not able to get an accurate representation of what's going on in the Lows.
I own a pair of E5XTs, sounds really good for both mixing and listening music. I use furutech power cables in order to listen to smooth, musical sounds :)
Not sure where you're from but from what i can rmmbr where i'm from the Presonus and KRK's price difference is so far apart it's pointless to compare i would get the E5 to save money and spend it on other necessities

KRK are good,but Presonus is kicking ass!Presonus have a great sound and build quality,and they are crazy cheap for the quality you get on their products!
I bought both and tested side by side Rokit 7 Gen4 and Presonus E7 XT and I thought the Presonus sounded better after tweaking the sound, they were louder and had deeper lows and brighter highs after adjusting the mids and highs gain, sounded great on music, movies and games. It was very close tho don't get me wrong the KRK sound nice once adjusted but it came down to the Presonus being louder with better bass response, better on speaker adjustments and cheaper
These are dope but I love m audio bx4. They will be better for my store room studio. But I am a student and I can't afford them yet but I will buy them someday. And secondly you gave a very honest review as you are experienced and your merchandise are cool. I will get that hood after I complete my studio. Thank you soo much.......
Just hooked up a pair of these in my vocal booth, and they produce a native white noise that is going to screw with my noise floor, even with no source connected. Digging through forums this is apparently an inherent design flaw up and down their range of monitors. Probably not great for a company designing things for audio pro folk. Seems like this will really hurt their sales over time, and as for mine, they're going back PRONTO. Not sure where to turn next, but I'm on the lookout for something that is silent when sitting idle and does what it's supposed to do when on playback. Hopefully, with roughly the same price-point and feature-set.
@@TheEmperorOfIceCream To stay near the price-point with the features I wanted, I went with the KRK Rokit 5 G4. They have the ability to turn the monitors' gain down as much as needed to reduce internal noise, and then I bump the volume up a bit on my DAC to compensate and all is well!

@@jonnypetrovich3114 Yeah, but you can't, because the speakers you're using will change the outcome. So if his speakers have 0dB at 5kHz and yours does boost the area around 4500-5200 by default, then you'll hear that. Not the speakers he's showing.

But I can’t seem to figure out how I would connect them as a pair to the Airport. The Airport only has a 3.5mm out. Would I use a 3.5 to rca stereo splitter and then 2 RCA to TRS cables.. one to each speaker?
You have to compromise with low frequencies jn hs5 where as e5 has a bit muddy bass so in my opinion both have pros n cons but with e5 you can adjust the the sound frequencies which is a advantage

My question is ... How much of a difference is there between E5 XT and E5 BT. I do know that the XT has 80w each and the BT is 50w each and they have different amps. However, what does that translate to? My use is 70% video mix and 30% music creation. I just dont have any more desk space for an interface but want the e5 xt clarity. Can you compare those? There really is any coparisions i have found online which is Odd. (coming from a pair of 7yo Rocket 5's)

I am currently testing the Yamaha HS5, KRK Rokit 7 Gen4, Presonus Eris E7 XT. My opinion would be the Presonus if you're not mixing. If deeper bass response is important to you go with at least the 7 XT a great value at $180. What I like about the Presonus so far is they are the loudest of the 3 and sound really nice overall even at higher volumes. Yamaha and Presonus gain set at 12 o'clock and the KRK at 0db while testing, the mids and high frequency gains really help to dial in the upper range making for a brighter clearer sound with out the need for a software EQ so if you're looking for something more standalone it's a great option, where as the Yamaha and KRK need the help of a software EQ to get them dialed in to their potential even after using the KRK app the highs weren't bright enough and the lows needed a little help as well and the Yamaha just need help on the lows ,I used a 11 band EQ for adjustments. Hope this helps.
DS Audio has a more honest sound comparison. 5 inch speakers definitely have more bass and detail compared to what we hear on this particular sound test. Needs improvement
There is a good reason why you see so many KRK’s or Yamahas in home studio videos. It’s no coincidence. So, I ordered the Presonus E5 XT just two months ago and they turned out to be a MAJOR disappointment in terms of build quaility. I couldn’t wait to return them fast enough. Loose cone, popping noises when being switched on, sound quality okay but subpar. I ordered the pair of KRK 5 G4 as replacements. What a major difference! Stellar packaging and build quality. It is very difficult to tell the difference in sound quality in this video. But up close in person, the difference is significant. The mids and highs in the KRK sound clearer and well balanced - vocals sound great! The bass is also punchy, but not muddy or distorted like in the Presonus. Just compare the frequency response between the two and the performance differences will be obvious. The KRK app and integrated digital EQ to set them up specifically to your room conditions (even without acoustic treatment) makes the whole experience state of the art. Absolutely worth the extra $60 USD for the pair of KRK’s.
There are some clicks on these monitors when you turn them on. Depends on the batch. But it is nothing to worry about and they sound so natural (in the price range) that i have absolutely no complaints. Really nice transients, everything translates amazingly. Punchy and balanced. I don't even check my mixes in headphones anymore. To each his own, i guess.
I went with the Presonus over the Krk because I got a lot of free software with them, including a free DAW. I was unable to hear the Presonus before buying them, but the Krk Rokits did not sound all that great, they sounded ok but the Focal Alpha 65 Evo sounded way better. So I just went with Presonus for the free software since the Krk were worse than I expected. Not to say that the Krk's are bad, but Focal simply makes better speakers. I am also pretty sure I compared the Focal Alpha 65 Evo to the Krk Rokit 8 and the Focals still won. Or maybe not, maybe they were different speakers with 8 inch woofers. Don't remember. I actually had the Focal Alpha 65 Evo speakers but I returned them because they took up too much space on my desk and there was not enough space around them, so they were cramped. The Focal Alpha 50 Evo speakers were an alternative but they were a lot more expensive than the Presonus and the Presonus came with free software. At first, it seemed like I could afford €700 speakers but then shortly after that, I actually ran out of money and could only afford speakers that cost less than €400. The Krk's were still an option but the Presonus came with free software.
Guys please be careful i was about to buy them but then i realized in the amazon prodcut title it says "Single" which means is only just one speaker, not the pair...

The recording is mediocre, i;ve got all versions, The 5XT and 8 are good studio quality tools. They are solid. The smaller versions are good computer speakers.

Distorted guitars aren't what I'd call real instruments. How they sound completely depends on the distortion applied

If I’m using them either a Focusrite Scarlett solo do I need to worry about the static and hide? I’m using trs to xlr cables.

Yes, but get a good edifiers for listening music, these are more detailed and very flat, so some tracks will lack something or some kind of EQ.

Do I need a subwoofer or could I do without it. I'm a video editor which involves editing a bit of audio but nothing or very serious (audio wise).
For video editing a subwoofer would be unnecessary as the Presonus have really good low bass, I'm using the E7 XT

5" is more than enough, if your room is heavily "treated" with bass traps and acoustic panels THEN you can go for a 8".

So, I ordered the Presonus E5 XT just two months ago and they turned out to be a MAJOR disappointment in terms of build quaility. I couldn’t wait to return them fast enough. Loose cone, popping noises when being switched on, sound quality okay but subpar.
I ordered the pair of KRK 5 G4 as replacements. What a major difference! Stellar packaging and build quality. It is very difficult to tell the difference in sound quality in this video. But up close in person, the difference is significant. The mids and highs in the KRK sound clearer and well balanced - vocals sound great! The bass is also punchy, but not muddy or distorted like in the Presonus. Just compare the frequency response between the two and the performance differences will be obvious.
The KRK app and integrated digital EQ to set them up specifically to your room conditions (even without acoustic treatment) makes the whole experience state of the art. Absolutely worth the extra $60 USD for the pair of KRK’s.
There are some clicks on these monitors when you turn them on. Depends on the batch. But it is nothing to worry about and they sound so natural (in the price range) that i have absolutely no complaints. Really nice transients, everything translates amazingly. Punchy and balanced. I don't even check my mixes in headphones anymore. To each his own, i guess.
I went with the Presonus over the Krk because I got a lot of free software with them, including a free DAW. I was unable to hear the Presonus before buying them, but the Krk Rokits did not sound all that great, they sounded ok but the Focal Alpha 65 Evo sounded way better. So I just went with Presonus for the free software since the Krk were worse than I expected. Not to say that the Krk's are bad, but Focal simply makes better speakers. I am also pretty sure I compared the Focal Alpha 65 Evo to the Krk Rokit 8 and the Focals still won. Or maybe not, maybe they were different speakers with 8 inch woofers. Don't remember.
I actually had the Focal Alpha 65 Evo speakers but I returned them because they took up too much space on my desk and there was not enough space around them, so they were cramped. The Focal Alpha 50 Evo speakers were an alternative but they were a lot more expensive than the Presonus and the Presonus came with free software. At first, it seemed like I could afford €700 speakers but then shortly after that, I actually ran out of money and could only afford speakers that cost less than €400. The Krk's were still an option but the Presonus came with free software.

Either those sound awful or your recording tech is mediocre.
The recording is mediocre, i;ve got all versions, The 5XT and 8 are good studio quality tools. They are solid. The smaller versions are good computer speakers.
