  • It's been a hard decision since EVBG has had solid growth over the last year but it seems like it makes sense to merge it all back together. After feedback from viewers, etc we're going to try to take EVBG in a different direction, making it more opinion / podcast based. If you want to help out, drop us a line!

Yeah Nick seemed pretty stiff when he was on DSTV. Good luck to him though!

So glad you are merging the channels.... I never liked the split honestly, plenty of us are interested in both plus you have such a big audience at AoA.

Love this direction, Alex. The multiple channels were a bit vexing to have to keep tabs on, and I think nearly all of us agree that the market place isn't such that people shop ICE, HEV, PHEV, and EVs in a mutually exclusive way. Sad to hear Brian's moved on, loved his vibe and content - but very cool to bring a new reviewer, enthusiast, voice of the consumer on with Nick.
Cheers to yours and the channelseses continued success.

Posted this before long ago.. but A0A was the first channel I subscribed to many years ago. appreciate all that you do and your my Favorite reviewer. Have not in 5 years missed one of your reviews. Thank you bud for all u do!

I think we are on the cusp of the age where EVs and ICE cars can compete head to head, so a single channel makes sense. I would appreciate more opinion from someone who is so well versed in all the marketplace offerings. I think price comparisons need to include both retail and market pricing, since they are often so disparate. Thanks for all you do.

I wish I was an upstart auto journalist right now! I've been an AoA fan since the parking garage days. Happy with the channel direction and promise for more opinion pieces. I really enjoyed Brian's reviews; partially 'cause his urban sprawl looks like mine.

Autos are autos. The reviews should never have been split in the first place.

I think this change makes sense; however, I know upfront whether the vehicle you're reviewing is an EV, ICEV, or other. For others who don't follow the industry as closely, managing playlists on the channel might be the better option for allowing viewers to select the specific content they're interested in.
As for podcast style opinions and discussions, I don't think you're too late to the EV space at all. In fact, I think you're just in time. Right now, most of the channels that provide those types of discussions are either car folk who are clearly still figuring out EVs (often regurgitating received opinions) or EV folk who are stuck inside a particular EV automaker's ecosystem (and who struggle to formulate opinions of their own). Hearing some voices and opinions from actual, experienced EV folk without strong brand biases would be extremely valuable now and into the future. Some of those voices are out there (clearly), but I rarely ever see them having candid discussions together.

FYI, the link to the Auto Buyers Guide in the video description does not work - there is an extra "ev" at the end.

I don't typically like channel creep, but I did think it worked fairly well for EVBG alongside AoA. Still, if they majority prefers reviews all in one place, so be it! Look forward to seeing what you develop here but I'll stick with both channels either way! 🔋

Makes ton of sense. I have purchased 6 evs over the past few years and your opinions/reviews have been instrumental in my decisions to buy or not. I have become quite the EV Evangelist to say the least. I wish I was not fully employed right now because I would love to be part of your podcast. I ran a very successful gaming podcast for quite a few years and it was a joy to do. Unfortunately now I am overwhelmed with work (have to pay for all these cars somehow ;) ). I wish you all the best to keep seeing your channel(s) grow and will continue to follow your suggestions (opinions) in the future.

I like the change. The video about being a small business and choosing the right Level 2 charger at a business parking lot is completely inapplicable to my life but super interesting. There's a ton of non car review but EV related content that can be made, and who knows, people might even agree with you.

It really doesn't bother me one way or the other. However, success is guided by brand identity. Alex has a brand loyalty, so he either spends money on making the electric brand more identifiable, or merges, which of course, is what he has done. To me, this guy is one of the very best reporters on RUclips for car tests. Like all other RUclips testers bar Car Confection, I wish he would spend more time in towns, stop start, and parallel parking, so that we can actually see what it is like driving in cities or towns.

I had only subbed to this channel personally since I am only interested in buying EVs going forward, sub box gets flooded with too many non-EV reviews if I sub to all the normal auto channels so personally I won't be subbing to main channel but totally understand merging stuff back. I'm sure i'll find your reviews when i search for new EVs I'm interested in :)

Having two separate channels was always confusing for the viewers, and extra work for you,
But EVBG now needs to be renamed into something like EVF, EV Forum? To represent its new focus. Good luck with it.

  • @wpelfeta

A problem I see with moving the EV content to the main channel is that sometimes its hard to tell if a car is electric or not. Since I'm generally not interested in gas cars anymore (now that I have my own charger and everything), I liked keeping up with the latest EVs. But I might miss videos if they aren't explicitly stated to be EVs in the thumbnail or title.

ev's are pretty obvious in their design vs regular cars, but tbh theres not that many as of now and you can just google "list of evs sold in x country 2023" and get a printed list, then just watch out for those reviews specifically

I never liked the split!!!!!!! Change EV Buyers Guide to Vehicle buyers guide and make it a podcasting style channel. Bring on some guests and even viewers to discuss the challenges of today's car market, new car suggestions and recommendations, as well as future and upcoming technology.

00:48 "...rather than just entertainment, like you may find somewhere else." That describes TheStraightPipes perfectly 😆 There is no way I would ever be able to make an informed decision on car purchases by watching their "sun visor test". The fact that they have reached over 1.5 million subs, while Alex's channel has not even broken the half million mark is quite mind-blowingly dumb, imo.

Yeah, Alex's logic is backward. If automobiles of the future are going to be 100% EVs as he said, then he should retire the "Alex on Autos" channel and keep the "EV Buyers Guide" channel. If Alex keeps swapping channels, at some point viewers are going to be totally confused and lose interest. Would be a shame, because Alex always has the most useful information.
