The Game is a forgotten masterpiece. The first time you watch it it's a paranoid thriller. The second time you watch it it's an intimate psychological character study. Endlessly re-watchable.
Man, I absolutely love how The Game ends. Because of the abrupt tonal shift, and weirdly unconvincing brevity, you're left wondering 'is this still the game?' all the way up to the credits. The way it puts the audience in the same paranoid head-space as Douglas is the whole point of the movie for me, leaving the viewer with the feeling that they should pay more attention and value every second on Earth. It's a thing of beauty.
I actually really liked the ending. Throughout the film, like chris said, you get this sense of dread but you also start to feel very sorry for Michael Douglas as his world is destroyed. The ending saves the film from being horribly bleak and depressing. A happy ending is like a breath of relief in this film IMO.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS The ending, for me, is problematic because everything went a little too perfect. I think it would’ve been much more satisfying if the game itself didn’t go the way anybody planned. Maybe he misses the trampoline at the end, thus making everyone in on it know they had gone too far regardless of their intentions, and then everyone learns a lesson instead of just Douglas’ character. The accuracy of his fall is far fetched enough to take you out of the movie for a second, anyway. It just seems like they pushed him too hard for an intervention/birthday present, which was never addressed. It’s revealed and then everyone is all smiles from then on. How smooth everything went just makes the previous intensity feel a little less impactful, and more bland on a second watch, but captivating nonetheless because of the filmmaking. No regrets watching on the first, second, or third viewing though. Great movie.
Ik you left this comment a year ago but I completely agree. I was left wondering how having your entire life be thrown away and puppeteered would affect your mental state. In the movie he gets up from the airbag and is back to normal :/
It's all in the mind here. I mean, the whole fake company translates to "Christ". The whole movie is basically just a visualized therapy session. A man who has nothing to live for, it's an anti-suicide movie (his father committed suicide and he's spiraling towards the same fate, and does) and the ending always breaks my heart, he essentially dies and becomes a new person who sees the good in his life. A lot of people complain about its absurdity but this isn't meant to be realistic, this is mission impossible. There's no way you can make a plot that perfectly predicts human behaviour in maticulous detail, one slip and its over, so why bother.
I finally watched the movie few days ago. While I totally agree with criticisms regarding ending, that second unexpected twist actually made me really happy. I already accepted the tragic ending after the first twist, but then the next "holy shit" moment happened and in my honest opinion, it makes up for everything, despite all the flaws. After all it's just a movie - not everything has to be planned to smallest details.
really? There's no way they could predict that he would shoot his brother and jump off that roof - and THEN conveniently land in the perfect spot. oh and then Sean Penn magically teleports 50 stories down to greet him at the end. Plus, they buried him and left him for dead.. The first 3 quarters of the film is great.. it definitely needed some rethinking on the ending.
Филип Ковачевић it was not unexpected, i directly expected the whole concept of the movie at the first half hour, but true is, that i was never sure about my opinion. Sometimes i asked myself wether its a game now or not
It feels to me at the end like he should have been pretty angry about them making him believe that his entire life was ruined and that he had been in such fear and misery for so long. I sure would not be smilling and laughing and be happy after such a terrible experience.
@@leonard177 Yes, I was thinking that same exact thing. However, I do find the whole "birthday" plot twist very interesting and, somewhat well done. So either way, decent film.
@@leonard177 The film was successful in its intended goal. To make us think, contemplate and discuss what might, and might not have been the message and idea behind the film. So it definitely did serve its purpose. Fincher is excellent at starting conversations. This is not his greatest film, but it is also not his worst. It is a decent film overall, everything considered. Some might also enjoy the film more than others, it is a very different film, not too many that has a very similar plot. Anyhow, we digress. 🤷♂️
Just watched it, amazing. But why criticize to ending lol? Wasen't it the whole purpose of the movie, a game that would be lifechanging for him? I don't really get your point there.
like they would know he would shoot his brother and jump off the building in the exact spot to land on the blow up safe landing mat. the movie is good, up until the end.
Maybe they have plan A and B? Plan A - He will not shoot his brother then celebrate! Plan B - He will shoot his brother then he will jump to that building but the worst part is when he use his gun to commit suicide haha
This whole movie Is a continuous plot hole. What if he decided to Jump from the other side of the building? What if he didnt manage to return to the us? What if he hadn't asked for christine's address? Why are there bullet holes on the car if they are not real bullets? What if he hadn't shot his brother, understanding that this is the game? What if he bought a real gun, instead of using the one in his house? It seems that CRS is composed by clairvoyants, not actors. So many scenes that could have happened in a different way, resulting in a possible death for someone.
The Batman What you're trying to do is like trying to explain a joke logically. Which basically ruins the joke. So, by trying to throw too much logic on a movie that wasn't meant to be logical to begin with, you ruin it. Seriously, does a company like CRS exist in real life? NO! So, saying well why were there bullet holes, what if he jumped off the other side of the building are just as equally irrelevant questions in my opinion.
Wow B+? I think this is Fincher's best. I can see people having problems with the ending, but, even up until that point, it's the most suspenseful film with the most incredible atmosphere in his filmography.
The first time I watched “The Game,” I actually cried at the end, because, even though Van Orton was such a difficult character to like, as a loner myself, I found him very sympathetic and as his character unraveled along the narrative, I was totally hooked into it and pulling for him. It’s one of my favorite films and I actually dig that most ppl don’t like or agree or get the ending. Amazing character study, beautiful cinematography and solid performances and direction. One of my favorite Fincher offerings.
saw this movie for the first time today, OMG it was literally almost as good if not better than se7ens ending. i loved it, cant believe people don't mention this among finchers best. top 3 for sure
I also loved the movie AND the ending. I keep wondering what people would like the ending to be... They say they don't like it, but never give an alternate version. What would be more unexpected and cool than that?
They could have given us another mind game; it ends and 'everything's fine and yay' but that's not the way it should have ended. You should have been left with a darker twist that "the Game" was actually very real and Douglas's character was actually insane the whole time. It would have been similar to Fight Club, but it would've been cool is Douglas and Penn were the same person. Instead, it just ruined a phenomenal movie a little bit
+Kyle Gaunt Reviews. Are you joking? I'm asking you in all seriousness. I'm asking you because you just described the shittiest idea that I think I've ever heard. Yeah...let's just give The Game the exact same ending as Fight Club. Yeah...let's just do a cop-out "he was crazy all along" ending even though that's no better than the "he was asleep the whole time" cliche. If you're joking, then hats off to you because you got me! If not...then there's a reason why you don't write movies.
+V elociraptor I was just giving my thoughts on how the ending could have went; there's also an alternate ending never filmed but would have been a much better ending! Why don't YOU look it up and stop acting like a dick!! Sure my idea might not have been a great one, but that does not make me an idiot
this film was just 8/10 i honestly think this is my most disappointed said finches film. I thought this film was going to be amazing, but it was just ehh
I saw this on HBO once by chance. I remember thinking "what that hell is this? Sweet movie" then i looked it up on IMDB and was like OH. FINCHER MADE THIS. No wonder it was awesome.
Just finished watching this film like not even 2 minutes ago and I'm baffled that Sean Penn's character in the film drives his brother(Douglas) to commit suicide the same way that their dad did years before just so he could open up to life. That's such a fucked up, crazy way of getting someone to start living his life. It does feel strained and questions left unanswered. Otherwise, really good film with a crazy plot filled with tons of discomfort and paranoia at times, which add alot to the movie. I also really loved how you're really pulled into this old-fashioned, rich and solitary life that Douglas lives in the film, at the beginning, it makes you learn about his character, alot of that is the setting and good shots. Great film.
I don't understand the criticism of the ending and wish it had been elaborated on why you didn't like it. It seems to me that the way the film ended was the only logical conclusion and really the only way things could have gone that fulfills the premise of the film. What am I missing?
+Powernetwork i agree about the ending that it was all planned and coordinated. But my only issue is how Michael Douglas falls exactly into the safety bag thing, what if he had jumped off from a different side?
+Randy Taylor I've heard that there is a fence around the roof that is only open where he jumped. But I haven't gone looking for it. But even if there isn't, why demand realism from what is essentially a fantasy film?
+Randy Taylor The other guy might have a better answer. Sorry for butting in. :-) I think sometimes I am overly forgiving of movies I like. In a movie I hate, I'd probably be asking the same kinds of questions haha.
+Beavispdx Because it makes the whole plot so ridiculous and for many breaks the suspension of disbelief. When you still think the whole thing is a hugely elaborate scam it still sort of seems believable but the idea that everything was basically a prank crosses the line. Just think about it.Death or other permanent damage was possible at every second, they needed to plan every single way he reacted and acted, all of his friends and family just somehow went with it and also played their roles flawlessly without a slip up etc etc
The Game is a great movie. Dont understand why you didnt like the ending? In a way, its like A Christmas Carol/Scrooged movies. What do you think would have made it better?
I really feel The Game is David Fincher's most underrated and overlooked film in his resume'. And I actually really like the ending. When I say the ending, I mean the major twist ending that comes right before the part that a lot of people don't like. It felt so surprising and shocking upon first viewing that I neither loved nor hated what came after and only found out people's dislike for it after reading more reviews.
I actually loved the ending to The Game. I guess it's just one of those things that you either love or hate because of the unbelievable nature of it. Once you come to accept it in the surreally creepy tone of the movie, you really enjoy it.
One of my favorite films of all time, especially loved the ending. Right when I thought it was going to end that way, I was quite sad, till they pulled another twist and I loved it! :) Stellar performance by Micheal Douglas, very well written script and perfectly executed. David Fincher is the fuckin' MAN!
I actually don't mind the ending of this movie. Of course I saw it wen I was very young so maybe if I saw it now I'd have a different opinion. Awesome review btw! Also, I just want to say I really like how you address sponsored videos. You don't try to hide it or even work it in the video but are just upfront about it and I really respect that! Oh and... Congrats on your wedding!! It's weird I'm excited for you guys, isn't it? XD
Saw this great movie EIGHT TIMES, just in the theater! I have the novel and the Criterion edition on Blu-Ray. I was SO swept up in Nicholas' ever-changing, increasingly paranoid experiences. I didn't trust ANYONE afterwards, not even my own mother! "The Game" is a mind-bending thriller that Hitchcock would've been VERY proud of!
I really liked the end. I think it elevated the whole movie into greatness and gave it meaning and purpose. if he just broke down in despair at the end, this would have been just another shoot-the-shaggy-dog-story which I loathe.
It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but I remembered the ending and loving it. It was like the best punchline after a very long and drawn out joke.
Having just watched this for the first time, I can confidently say that this was one of the most creatively blindsiding mind-blowing twist endings I've ever seen in a movie. I wouldn't say it's my favorite - not by a wide margin, but goddamn, I never could have possibly suspected it...
The ending was fine.Everyone was involved in this elaborate game(the way it was proposed to be)and it wasn't just a series of unfortunate events(that's what everyone expected, like it just got out of hand). The whole cast is assembled at the party and we can see that everyone played a part in 'the game'.I believe we're supposed to think that he became a deeper person and was not just a myopic capitalist anymore.I loved it.
I didn't feel like he was an asshole, because isn't that kind of the stereotype we expect from rich guys. They're usually portrayed as impatient. PS: I disagree with the ending. I wish that the ending was a little longer though.
I was one of the people that hated the ending. I didn’t have an issue with the turn of events themselves, but his reaction???? He immediately forgot he just tried to kill himself because everyone went: JUST KIDDING!!!! ????! Like hello?? Lol wtf. I was immediately disconnected from his character after that.
Agreed.. it is absolutely satanic what they all did to him just because they didn't like how he behaved and that he didn't fit into their world. Even if he is an asshole...so what? Let life be a lesson. They have no right to do that. This is wrong in so many ways and goes too far. However... It's a perfect mirror to our society. When someone doesn't fit into our society they try to manipulate and change that person. I wonder why nobody, really nobody, sees that, wth. It shows how easily people are manipulated like stupid lambs. It's so disgusting.
I disagree about some people having the opinion that Douglas' character should've been angry upon finding out it was all a prank of sorts.Douglas' performance was so good in capturing why he didn't respond in anger by that point... he had finally been broken. He had nothing left. The anger was gone and he was ready to live and take chances as evidenced by the next and final scene where he leaves his own extravagant party to go out for coffee with a woman he didn't really know. The reintroduction of the Alice song reflected the now newfound rebellious side. He was forced to confront his past and having been broken of the guilt and responsibility of living up to his father's image in character, he found a new meaning to life that was otherwise impossible for such a strong willed man.
Another great review, Chris! I saw this movie EIGHT TIMES just on the big screen alone, I loved it so much! After my first time, I came home not trusting anyone, not even my own mother, ha ha! "The Game is a criminally underrated film that kinda flew under the radar when it was first released. I have the book, the DVD, and the Criterion Blu-Ray!
I don't think it was just the ending... The whole movie basically treated the protag's journey as one big Rube Goldberg machine, where if you push a certain lever, one very specific thing would happen. Obviously, this happened in movies all the time. I think people have just come to expect more out of Fincher's storytelling. Technically and visually this movie is stunning, and as Chris said, it's very captivating. I just found the execution of the actual game to be quite unbelievable. Also, how did Conrad get back to the lobby so goddamn fast lol - and for the people trying to quash anyone to points out the flaws in this movie, just get over it. We all love Fincher, but you don't have to defend sloppy screenwriting just because you love a guy. Even Fincher himself knows there were issues with the movie.
Congrats on tying the knot, Chris & Sam! I have to say, your Batman wedding ring is absolutely bananas. Can't wait to see your remaining Fincher reviews.
I love 'The Game', including the ending. It's strange for me to like a film with such a ... frankly impossible plot, but the movie just does it for me. I totally buy into Michael Douglas' cold, bleak-hearted portrayal of the central character and I love the style of this film .... so many moments where reality and what we THINK we know is seemingly established, only to be ripped away later.... The plot IS ridiculous in many ways. It would be nigh-impossible for a story like this to play out the way it does, but if you buy into that suspension of disbelief (which I otherwise struggle with in many, many films), this film is excellent. What DO you get the man who has everything?
My biggest problem with the ending (spoilers): HOW IN THE FUCK DID THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHERE HE WAS GOING TO FALL? I get that they did several tests to him before the Game began, but he could have chosen any spot to kill himself so I won't swallow that they knew just because.
the thing is, he went suicidal in the end and when his brother was ok he was just fine and dandy. The ending was cheesy and hollywood styled and that really frustrated me...
He cried and hugged his brother. He didn't even smile with the party around him, I think thats pretty realistic and also what I would do too. I would not go crazy, knowing the game is finally over. I think he also got his fathers suicide of his chest at the end and was kind of relieved. Happy ending but still sad.
People will say things like they didn't like the ending.. if so they should elaborate and tell what a better ending would be. I thought the ending was amazing though
It is literally a acid trip: Just waiting for it to end. Wondering if it ever end and you just want things to be normal. Just a regular day doing nothing is better than the trip. When it finally ends and you are sober, its so gratifying. So peaceful. You end up being grateful for every moment of your life.
Honestly, this is my favorite movie of all time. There's just so much to absolutely love about it. And yes, the ending is my favorite part. I get that it may seem a bit far-fetched, but I don't really see that as being the case. Remember, he was tested on all day, for hours and hours, and because of that they were able to figure out what would work and what wouldn't. There were also safety measures every single time. Also, a lot of people saying that he landed on the airbag was lucky or unrealistic because he could have jumped a few feet off. My rebuttal to that is character placement. If a character is standing in the middle of the roof and he wants to jump off, he's not going to walk to the corner of the roof or anything. Naturally, he'd walk straight back to the edge and then jump.
There's also the edge facing the street. The ending can't be glossed over no matter how badly you want it to be, every detail of that ending kills the rest of the movie. Sorry for saying that about your favorite movie.
@@crotchman completely disagree besides the airbag part. There should have been communication a precaution was put in place in case he jumped there. Otherwise, I think ending works pretty good
This film had me guessing all the way to the very end. Although it could've been different and maybe better with an open ending, this ending was alright.
I happened to just finish rewatching it and forgot how much I enjoyed watching it. First time watching a review on it and man Chris, your channel was as consistently good back then as it is now.
I remember seeing "The Game" in the 90s and being somewhat underwhelmed. This is possibly an after-effect of the frankly enraging bad ending. There's a certain sense of narcissism pervading through the film this impossibly big and complex conspiracy centers all around the pivot-point of Michael Douglas's character. Every facet of the game is in some way an extension based on part of his character's life, attitudes, and traits. For a far more nebulous and unnerving conspiracy film centering around one man I would recommend "The Parallax View" with Warren Beatty. It was made in 1974 and captures the sense of all-consuming paranoia that was gripping the nation after the Watergate Scandal and President Nixon's "secret wars" in Cambodia and Laos. There is a word-image-association slideshow in the film that is worth the price of admission alone.
Yep, completely disagree on the ending. One of the main parts of Nicholas' journey was to come to understand how his father's emotionally absent, physically standoffish and barely there existence had such a terrible effect on himself and the family (and likely ultimately led to his suicide). I'm not sure it could have ended any other way, unless you preferred the angle of Nicholas actually shooting Conrad and taking the one way out that CRS didn't plan for and actually dying (which is exactly what I thought was happening right up until he hit the porta-pit). I would have given the movie an A-. The only real problem I have with the movie is that my suspension of disbelief gets stretched a bit far, especially on repeat viewings. It's any one situation in particular, it's just that things happening exactly as they did without much mishap, even with *very* extensive contingency planning, would take too long a string of small miracles.
I HATED this film 😭 made 2 hours feel like 4 hours, ridiculous plot that a primary school kid could make. In my mind the whole time I was convinced it was all part of the game, it was very obvious. Obviously the ending is dreadful, but it’s insane how unrealistic even everything before that is. They drug him and send him to a foreign country, and they expect him to make it out in the perfect amount of time and do exactly what they thought he would and he just HAPPENS to jump off the building exactly where he was supposed to land. Also that glass even if it was soft glass would’ve broken many bones, or at least given him whiplash. And on top of all this, he wasn’t even surprised and was actually THANKFUL that they did this to him. He was mentally and physically tortured for days and when he finds out it’s a prank he’s fine with it. A complete waste of 2 hours.
I just watched this film, and yes the ending is a bit convenient. But I feel like it helped clarify and reveal the true plot of what was happening to Micheal's character, if they went another direction I think I maybe would have been more confused.
Maybe I was too young, or maybe I'm not that critical, but I liked the whole movie, ending and all. Hell, the ending made it. Otherwise it'd probably be a pretty generic, dour video.
I really liked the Sound Design in this film, too. When it starts, it's very echo-y; giving Michael Douglass' character a sense of isolation. Also, what all did the Criterion guys put on the disc for Bonus Materials?
Since it is on NETFLIX now I find myself watching it for probably the 30th time. Fincher along with Nolan are my two favorite directors. But the ending of this film, albeit was kind of gimmicky, was still a surprise. But what I did love about the whole film was this transformation of the Douglas’ character. And the flashbacks of the tragedy of the father showing you how Douglas was leading down that same path. Rewatching this film over and over again, what I feel now compared to when I first watched it is that no matter how much of a dick Douglas was, everyone around him really loves and respects him. And it takes something so intense to make him realize it.
Chris, try an updated review. This review had a little to be desired as you have grown in your understanding over the almost decade. Definitely my favorite film with a brilliant performance from Douglas and Penn, though his time is limited as you've noted. What do you think? Are there nuances in the movie worth mentioning? Why is the movie so compelling for us in a corporate sense? The emptiness, dreariness of a big home and company - while being alone?
Had no idea Fincher directed this. Love this movie. From early movies I squarely hated Michael Douglas as an actor, but then in this movie, The American President and Wonder Boys (one of my all time favs) I began to look forward to seeing him in movies.
first time I watched the movie, I really didn't expect the ending and I think I liked it. That's the point isn't it? You were guessing all this time what the whole thing was, but turns out it was just a very well coordinated plan by his brother, it made me exhale in satisfaction instead. That's how I felt about the ending. Maybe too sweetened for Hollywood, but isn't the whole movie filled with stairs of conflicts and thriller? Maybe Fincher himself doesn't like it, but it was alright. Totally wasn't in my expectation of an ending, but it's a good one for me.
Session 9 , The Machinist, Fractured. Those are some similar movies, although, The Game is in a league of its own. This is a masterpiece and Michael Douglas is a master of acting.

First of all, congrats on getting married! Second, last week I saw a movie you might be interested. The movie is Cantinflas. I believe it was in limited release in the US some time in August. It is the untold story of Mexico's greatest and most beloved comedy film star of all time, Mario Moreno, a.k.a. Cantinflas. This is the person Charlie Chaplin once commented as being the greatest world's greatest comedian. There is also a subplot about Michael Todd, who later married Elizabeth Taylor, a producer trying to put together the movie Around the World in Eighty Days; in which Cantinflas stars in. It's worth the watch.

What if he bought a real gun, instead of using the one in his house? It seems that CRS is composed by clairvoyants, not actors. So many scenes that could have happened in a different way, resulting in a possible death for someone.
The Batman
What you're trying to do is like trying to explain a joke logically.
Seven and the car ride scene would like a word
Should be an F. One of the worst movies I've ever seen
@@user-wo5tc9ux7u why?
Ever seen fight club?
@@kelisleiter1693 I’ve seen all of David Fincher’s films.
i disagree - the game is amazing - i like the ending
Warnerchild so did I
He only got a stupid shirt
Its fucking terrible
Same - one of my favorites.
Warnerchild that shit disrespectful af that shit disrespectful af!
V elociraptor
AMEN !
disagree this is one of finchers best films
Nah
this film was just 8/10 i honestly think this is my most disappointed said finches film. I thought this film was going to be amazing, but it was just ehh
Broski Movies The film was just ehh and you gave it an 8/10? Damn you are so generous
+Beavispdx ya i agree, its a brilliant film, just that one point seemed too convenient.
Always loved this film.
I respect your opinion, but I love the ending to the game
+Powernetwork Why is the end not good? I thought it was amazing!
I don't know but probably because it was a happy ending
i agree it makes sense for the movie
The Game is a great movie. Dont understand why you didnt like the ending? In a way, its like A Christmas Carol/Scrooged movies. What do you think would have made it better?
Kevin Kilgore
Exactly. The movie is about the message, not the realism. It’s a masterpiece.
I agree the movie is captivating. I've watched it many times. Yes the ending was far fetched but I still liked it.
atleast the ending doesn't ruin the film
the whole movie is a little far fetched to be honest... i wouldn't single out the ending
The Game has been my all-time favorite movie since I saw it three times at the theater in 1997. I think the ending is exactly as it should be.
I actually loved the ending to The Game. I guess it's just one of those things that you either love or hate because of the unbelievable nature of it. Once you come to accept it in the surreally creepy tone of the movie, you really enjoy it.
It's 2023...... You have really come a long way brother... Oh and I'm getting ready to watch this movie now 😁
While the ending could never play out in real life, it's still amazingly satisfying. In fact, one of the best endings ever.
One of my favorite films of all time, especially loved the ending. Right when I thought it was going to end that way, I was quite sad, till they pulled another twist and I loved it! :)
Stellar performance by Micheal Douglas, very well written script and perfectly executed. David Fincher is the fuckin' MAN!
I agree with most of your review except about the ending. It was a very satisfying ending in my opinion .
Rubish ending. It was too conventional. I would have liked it if sean pen got really killed instead if it being just a "game".
Congradulations Chris!!!! Best wishes to you and your lovely bride!
Congratulations Chris on the marriage!!!!!! :D Wish you two a long happy life together!!!!
What if he never thought to use the tool to unlock the cab window...or what if he jumped off of practically any other portion of the roof...
Yeah I thought it too. The plot and acting was good but ending was bad. It was way too much for a "Happy B'day" prank.
Curious Case of Benjamin Button is my least favorite Fincher film. It just feels incredibly melancholy and tragic, don't like that.
that's exactly why i loved it lol.
DxSteve Same
That's my least favorite too. It felt like forest gump but david fincher style
It's actually my favorite David Fincher film.
Can someone explain me the part about the Hurricane Katrina? I didnt get what was so symbolic about it or how is related to the story.
K Chris, you're doing a week for David Fincher's films, now please do one for Christopher Nolan.
It's basically impossible to pull all of this off, but it's really entertaining. I've watched it several times.
Really sweet send off to your wife, Chris. Congratulations on these last couple of years that have been so good to you.
It was such a pleasant surprise to see you on AMC Movie News Chris! It was like two of my favorite youtube shows in one!
I think that The Game is one of my all time favourite films, my favourite Fincher film
Happy ending but still sad.
joachim andersson
He wasn't fine and dandy. He was in shock first. But they could've make that part a little longer IMO.
What.....?
People will say things like they didn't like the ending.. if so they should elaborate and tell what a better ending would be. I thought the ending was amazing though
It is literally a acid trip: Just waiting for it to end. Wondering if it ever end and you just want things to be normal. Just a regular day doing nothing is better than the trip. When it finally ends and you are sober, its so gratifying. So peaceful. You end up being grateful for every moment of your life.
Congratulations, Chris. Really hope you two are happy together!
Otherwise, I think ending works pretty good
Congrats on the wedding, Chris!
The Game is actually one of the few Fincher films i haven't seen. Ill definitely have to check it out.
This is the most enthusiastic review I've seen Chris do in a while. I love how he describes this.
In my opinion
Fincher Top 5
1. Zodiac
2. The Social Network
3. Fight Club
4. Gone Girl
5. The Game
I still remember the flash back scenes
Watching this in honor of the Blu-Ray steel book release. Great review, Chris 👍
This film had me guessing all the way to the very end.
Although it could've been different and maybe better with an open ending, this ending was alright.
I'm glad Chris is finally getting some recognition he deserves it hope he continues with great reviews and hopefully some other stuff in the future
I happened to just finish rewatching it and forgot how much I enjoyed watching it. First time watching a review on it and man Chris, your channel was as consistently good back then as it is now.
The shoutout to his wife was so sweet. She's a lucky woman, it would appear.
I thought so too :)
David Fincher and Micheal Douglas both of them are GREAT!! 👍❤️My favorite director and actor.
while i see where chris is coming from, i absolutely loved the game!
Can't wait for Fight Club!!!
He's already reviewed it, might do it again though.
Ya, the end was just fan fiction level writing. It got me perplexed as to how did it go fairy tale out of nowhere?!
The soundtrack in this movie is also gold.
Another awesome vintage review! Fantastic, Chris.
Plus, you have met Alicia & Maudie in person (with photos) !!!
I would describe the ending of "Gone Girl" the same way
I just watched this film, and yes the ending is a bit convenient.
Hey Chris I've been really digging your appearances in Shmoeville this week! Can't wait to see what you did with Screen Junkies
I really liked the Sound Design in this film, too. When it starts, it's very echo-y; giving Michael Douglass' character a sense of isolation.
Also, what all did the Criterion guys put on the disc for Bonus Materials?
HOLY SHIT!!! YOU ACTUALLY REVIEWED THE GAME!!! THANKYOU STUCKMANN!!
What a nice guy with that comment at the end, you gotta love Stuckmann! I wonder why he didn't mention that he was appearing on AMC movie talk.
Congrats on the wedding. You never mention being on AMC but it was cool seeing you on there both times.
Hey Chris, is the Attack on Titan review on its way? Can't wait to see it.
***** Not yet, it'll be out this monday (the Funimation Blu-ray release).
This movie is literally the embodiment of "it's just a prank, bro"
Session 9 , The Machinist, Fractured. Those are some similar movies, although, The Game is in a league of its own. This is a masterpiece and Michael Douglas is a master of acting.
great review again , David Fincher one of my favorites directors I'll be waiting for the next video
Soooooooooooo good to see that ring on your finger! :) I wish you both a happy life and can't wait for some Mini Stuckmanns to enter the world!
Thank you stuckmann, I came here from your "Nerve" movie review and got to watch this film, a great one indeed.
Congratulations on your marriage Chris! All the best for you! Keep up the awesome reviews! I just have a recommendation for you to check out. It's my all-time favorite anime film called: Sword of the Stranger. It be awesome to hear your thoughts on it! Time for it to get Stuckmannized!
Best ending in movie 🎥 HISTORY! Hands down! A+++ the ending is what makes the whole movie! Kinda like the end of Shawshank Redemption.
I remember watching this movie when I was only twelve and I absolutely loved it!
Yo Chris congrats on the marriage.
Love the eerie piano score to this movie. Are you gonna review Zodiac?
Hey Cris. Just saw Falling Down with Michael Douglas. Care to share your thoughts on the movie. Looking forward to it
I remember watching this for the first time so long ago
And as you said Douglas really took it home in this one
