How does Chris do with the limited budget? Does it feel like a small film made with only 1.5 million or does he push the budget and make it feel larger?
At times, smaller, but he also uses the budget to the most potential it can be used, and in fact does push it a bit to make it feel bigger. There's definitely a larger scale to it than I expected. Very impressed.
People are reading this too much as a negative review when it's not. That passion is all over the movie. No arguments there at all. The movie is not bad, not at all, just has some flaws.
I just remember that chris was saying years ago that he has new ideas for a horror movie that nobody has thought of before which was big talk I thought and will make me more critical of this movie if I watch it
Im curious about what the idea of the movie is, all i keep hearing is that its found footage and then theres a twist, but if you cant reveal the twist, what will be the hook of the trailer?
I was at the Fantasia festival. This guy is being overly cautious because he obviously doesn’t want to be on stuckmanns bad side. People were audibly laughing during the “twist” at the end…. It’s not good.
Sounds like the issues you had with it are mainly things that the edit could fix. If hes taking it around and essentially testing it at festivals, as well as having an experienced studio behind it. I wouldnt be surprised if these are nailed down
I just hope my name and RUclips channel is on the screen for longer than 3 second for being executive producer. RUclips channel because I paid money for it lol.

There are three types of filmmakers: 1. Those who have the passion but not the talent. 2. Those who have the passion but it takes time to build your talents. Trial and error. 3. Those who simply just have a natural talent to direct. From what I’m hearing from all the reviews this fits in the 1 and 2 category.
I would argue this is a 2 outright in my eyes. Infinite levels of passion and a very clear love for what has been made, but not perfected yet. He'll improve, of this I'm certain.

He then started to make his own which is what he has always wanted to do and realised how fucking hard it was so thought ‘who am I to critique other peoples films’. He now just talks about the films he loves which is absolutely his prerogative. The guy followed his dream and succeeded. How can anyone hate on that?
No, it's because since he decided to actually make a movie of his own, he simultaneously decided to stop criticizing films. And people think taking some sort of moral stance against negative criticism the second you start making one is pretty cowardly.
No, some people hate him, and a few made some videos about it 🤷 I think most people still like him very much and is looking forward to his movies. I saw it at Fantasia and it was a giant disappointment… I expected a lot more from Chris based on his years of criticism but he didn’t deliver. He always talks about how jump scares are cheap and that’s all this movie is…. Jump scares. The “twist” is borderline hilarious.

@@Malt454 nah fam he’s a director with a movie under his belt. Belittle that if you want to but truth is that’s a massive achievement and much more than being a film critic on RUclips. It carries more weight. His primary role now is being a director. He’s going to continue being a director. RUclips is something on the side for him now.
with how generally positive you are on a lot of reviews this makes me a little worried that Chris’ film is probably leaning to the mediocre side.
Tbh the movie is good for a first time director. There weren’t immense sore thumb moments. The biggest weakness is the script though it keeps things going. I was honestly impressed, because based off his short Notes From Melanie i wasn’t very confident at all in his directing or writing. It’s a good start to his career imo, though not amazing. Totally agree with what’s said here 9:05
Can't be worst than those Rooster Teeth movies.
@craigmurdock4740 yeah, that's a pretty good summation of it. I'd say I'm hovering there too. Definitely better than mediocre!
Can you create something and present it? That takes balls to do
@@alucard2010I literally do that for a living. I’m not dogging on Chris at all, if anything I’m a lil bummed that a lot of the reviews are mixed/mid… even coming from fans of Chris. I definitely will be seated on opening night for this and I hope it’s better than what people are saying.
Hi Shaurya. First time watching your channel. I like it ! Your style seems honest and frank, so I subscribed. Can't wait for your other reviews !
Hi there, and thanks so much for your kind words! Glad you liked it, and thank you for subscribing!
@@ShauryaChawla You're welcome !
I Hope this movie will be a major succes, Stuckman deserves it, he is one of the best movie reviewers in the net.
"in the net" LOL
I’m looking forward to watching this flick. I hope it Stuckmanizes me! Cool review! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥
I'd imagine he took a lot of inspo from Lake Mungo...Those are the vibes I'm getting so far
He was asked about inspirations after the screening and the first six words were "Lake Mungo was a big one." So you're right there!
@@ShauryaChawla Hell yeah!! Excited to check it out
As a filmmaker and horror fan, I really enjoyed your review! Thanks for sharing! Dropping you a like!
Such a great and fair review. Well done
The poster up to the right (his left) where is it from?
The one for The Last of Us? I got it at Comic-Con!
The premise and plot of the movie sounds like The Blair Witch Project. I haven't watched Shelby Oaks but is it similar to The Blair Witch Project and if so, which of two did you enjoy more?
I’ll probably skip this one, or at least wait til it streams on shutter or wherever. The reviews are pretty much ‘meh’ but with a thumbs up for the effort. At $15 for a seat in a theater…that’s going to be a hard no.
Especially after there have been some banger indie movies just in the last 2 weeks. 1st with Long Legs and then this last weekend with Oddity. Both completely different but damn…def worth the ticket price.
longles was meh as fuck. absolutly nothing scary about it. it wasn't bad but only because nock cage was so entertaining.
‘The reviews are meh’ what all 10 of them by film festival goers… hardly a broad picture been painted of this movie yet by a wide audience mate, wait til it comes out properly to hear more opinions
Is it straight to DVD quality?
Definitely not. Very much made to be screened in theaters. I didn't mention it, but this is a loud movie.
A good debut and one he can build on, but it's straight to video for me.
If I was Stuckmann I'd take this an opportunity to move as far away from youtube as possible, I was just treating this project with trepidation because I heard it's about youtube somehow. Shades of the AVGN movie. I'm sure this will be much better than that.
Great review. Thanks for the heads up about this one. I was wondering as I backed the kickstarter and was hoping itd turn out at least descent
I'd say it's fairly decent overall! Flawed, but when it works, it's really solid. That's why I'm certain that anything he makes next, using these strengths, is going to be better.
Mike Flanagan was mentioned as executive producer. Done deal, now I have to see it.
Good review, it's not easy to give nothing away. Glad that it's not terrible.
LOL, it’s so fitting that you didn’t give a grade to Stuckmann’s feature film😂😂😂
Are there any scenes where rain assaults the ground?
At least chris will know how it's not easy to make a good movie.
He’s known that and addressed it for years
literally he knows that
He's been afraid to criticize movies and directors for years because he knows
@@BakariFisher ignorant statement. Watch every video he still does. Plently of negative aspects:)
When you're looking for a good restaurant do you want spots with good reviews or bad?
maybe use your brain before you comment
You don't need to be a youtuber or a film critic to realize that.... i think most people know this and most people know making decent horror is even harder. I'm annoyed we and people are even wasting anytime and energy on this exercise
Will I be stuckmanized?
How does Chris do with the limited budget? Does it feel like a small film made with only 1.5 million or does he push the budget and make it feel larger?
At times, smaller, but he also uses the budget to the most potential it can be used, and in fact does push it a bit to make it feel bigger. There's definitely a larger scale to it than I expected. Very impressed.
@@ShauryaChawlaawesome, sounds to me like he is more skilled as a director than as a writer
One of friends attended and he commented a said it just Meanders along at a tepid pace and it’s disjointed 😊
If your passion-project is mid at best, then what follows will be mid.
I kind of feel bad for Chris he was very passionate about this movie.
People are reading this too much as a negative review when it's not. That passion is all over the movie. No arguments there at all. The movie is not bad, not at all, just has some flaws.
as someone who watches Chris’s reviews every now and then…Not surprised
So exited for the movie!!
I just remember that chris was saying years ago that he has new ideas for a horror movie that nobody has thought of before which was big talk I thought and will make me more critical of this movie if I watch it
Don't build hype like that, fren. It can't survive that🤫
I really hope to see this!
I wouldnt be surprised if these are nailed down
One of the other reasons I didn't give a grade as well. I think a second review is possible at some point. Let's see what happens!
@@ShauryaChawlayou aren’t giving a grade because you’re scared to be on stuckmanns bad side. At least be honest about it.
Do you think Chris will do a review of his own movie?
where do u see this movie?
I just hope my name and RUclips channel is on the screen for longer than 3 second for being executive producer. RUclips channel because I paid money for it lol.
The names were there for a bit! I think you should see it just clearly!
You sound a bit entitled… I don’t want to see your name for longer than 3 seconds
Why on earth does that matter?
Bro nobody wants to see you name on the screen for 3 seconds come on
@@joshhunt4146 I said lol. Let's all calm down!
Probably be on Netflix by Halloween 🎃. It sounds like Chris should have hired a seasoned experienced director for this genre of movie. Hopefully it does well and the distributor might ask Chris for a sequel.
Chris has changed over the years, to rating movies and being honest to just giving nice takes on them because he’s starting to get in the good graces of all the directors, I liked his channel for his honesty, now he just D-rides anyone.
I was there but plan to see it again when it comes out in wide release next year. Good review without divulging too much about the movie. All in all, it was an exciting fun night and Chris deserved all the love he got from the audience:) In case anyone's interested, here's a short video I made that night - ruclips.net/video/dSagDxbM4IQ/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Thanks was wondering about this movie 🎥
There are three types of filmmakers:
@@ShauryaChawla I hope so. I’m rooting for his success as a filmmaker although I don’t fully agree with his stance on him only reviewing movies he likes.
It's his directorial debut man, give the man time to cook. Very few directors nail it right away.

With NEON buying Shelby....does it mean I'll be able to watch here in Belgium theaters?
They're going for a worldwide release, so hopefully, yes!
To all the haters. You’re haters who haven’t made a film. Wanna hate? You get a movie made with one of the biggest producers & directors in the business Mike Flanagan & get it distributed by one of the top companies in horror. No? Oh that’s right you don’t have dreams you just shit on everyone else’s.
Thats them pretty much lmao 💯
Can’t take it easy on stuckman, he was very harsh on films over the years until he started creating his own and then he stopped the ratings so people can take it easy on him.
Give over you melon. The bloke was a critic because he loved talking about movies. He then started to make his own which is what he has always wanted to do and realised how fucking hard it was so thought ‘who am I to critique other peoples films’. He now just talks about the films he loves which is absolutely his prerogative. The guy followed his dream and succeeded. How can anyone hate on that?
I knew the moment it was announced it would be mediocre. I mean have you seen Chris’ low budget fan films? Eek
This movie sucks ass, they only picked it up cause they know it will sell by name alone. We need to stop being fanboys and start being critical.
People really hate Chris that much because he doesn't want to review Madame Web?
Madame Web was more a tipping point for people. A lot of that was going on for years
That was the weirdest one. He didn't do an official "review", but he made his thoughts very clear.
No, it's because since he decided to actually make a movie of his own, he simultaneously decided to stop criticizing films. And people think taking some sort of moral stance against negative criticism the second you start making one is pretty cowardly.
No, some people hate him, and a few made some videos about it 🤷
I think most people still like him very much and is looking forward to his movies.

@@reeanimationgaming1034 So true. Always good to get a reminder to avoid falling into the drama myself.
Why does it seem like people want this to fail? Even if the movie isn't the greatest, we should be happy for the guy. Be supportive. It's only his first movie. What the hell did he do to you? People just hate and envy like they have nothing better to do. A bunch of assholes. Be better.
What?!? Flanagan? How many bjs did that take to get him aboard?
Terrible name for a horror movie. Just in my opinion.
So basically this movie is similar to “phoenix forgotten” and “lake mungo” 🤔
Thats the chris stuckman movie?
Honestly doesnt sound like a movie with much legs without knowing who made it.
I saw it at Fantasia and it was a giant disappointment… I expected a lot more from Chris based on his years of criticism but he didn’t deliver. He always talks about how jump scares are cheap and that’s all this movie is…. Jump scares. The “twist” is borderline hilarious.
Not giving it a grade, kind of reminds me of Stuckmann himself and why he eventually became the Stuckmann that we know now…
Skipping this one. Thanks
I question whether you were actually there considering you said the ending was solid…. The crowd was literally laughing…

I won't support his movies, he abandoned everything he once stood for, honest critiques, then started kissing butt and changing his narrative so he could get a movie funded and made. We relied on his unbiased reviews, so we knew what to sink our money into. There are other RUclipsrs that give honest opinions like Cody Leach, Jeremy Jahns and spookyastronauts, his reviews are now irrelevant.
