I love the last kingdom, I think it's an amazing show with great characters, but I've seen people say that the fight scenes are better than Vikings' fight scenes, and that can't be more false. Never once in Vikings did I think to myself "Those are just two actors doing choreography and not actually trying to hurt each other" when that happens several times in TLK. And when you see Bjorn, Rollo, Ragnar, Floki, Lagertha, etc fight you get pulled in and it makes you feel like you're right there on the battlefield with them, watching them kick ass. Ad how could I forget Athelwulf!! Dude was a straight monster on the battle field. Seeing him be used as a pawn by Ecbert, and then still coming out alive every time made me a fan. "Kill The Queen" was insane.
Vikings has that Hollywood style combat fighting whereas in The Last Kingdom the battles are always more realistic I.e. always fighting in shield wall formation which is how both the Saxons and Danes fought each other which this show excludes and has generic melee fighting.
@@mijanhoque1740 Vikings focuses a lot more on the earlier history of them raiding England and France, before Danelaw, so the tactics wouldn't have been as sharp as they were 100 years after someone like Ragnar would've lived. Not gonna argue that Vikings is historically accurate, though. They mix and match a lot of history, or give characters historical scenes where it was a different character in real life who did it. Like when Ragnar acted like he was dead to get into Paris. In real life, that was Bjorn and his half brother. But as far as the actual action scenes are concerned, Vikings is perfect. It's filmed perfectly, it's perfectly choreographed, and the actors actually look like they're swinging swords at each other as hard as they can while in TLK I've seen countless times where Uthred or someone will either be stiff while fighting or you can just tell they're holding back.

One thing they never seem to get right in movies and TV is that the vast majority of deaths during most battles don't actually occur during melee engagement, but actually occur when one line falters and breaks into a rout. Then the vast majority of deaths occur as the fleeing force is simply slaughtered as they turn to run. When a line holds there are few deaths.
