D70² Coil

As a result of Research & Development work carried out at Magstim we discovered that it was possible to improve stimulating coil efficiency sufficient to reach motor threshold with 25% less stimulator output in comparison with previous generations of the Magstim Double 70mm Coil*.
Magstim worked with TMS practitioners and has consulted extensively with our advisors in the field of neuromodulation to develop a new coil that researchers will find more user friendly.
The D702 has at least 25% extra stimulating power compared with previous generations of the Magstim Double 70mm Coil*, while also offering an 85% increase in the number of stimulation pulses feasible at 50% power when energised at 1Hz. This has been validated by independent research in which testing was carried out double blind*.
Greater efficiency means:
- Extended stimulation
- Improved subject comfort
- Increased functionality
- Enhanced accuracy
Other benefits:
Subjects find the new coil more comfortable. This is because the sound made by the new coil is less noticeable to subjects than the one produced by the old coils, leading to less association with the tactile sensation of stimulation.
Focality has been maintained in the new design, despite the greater efficiency in generating MEPs at lower power. This was tested via scalp mapping in an independent double blind study**.
Ergonomic handle gives greater ease of use and comfort in positioning. It is easier for researchers to maintain manual coil positioning for longer periods of time without suffering fatigue.
The handle mounted trigger switch has now been moved to a new position (top of the handle) for greater ease of use.
There is no need for a separate coil adaptor. The D702 is immediately compatible with the current range of Magstim 2002, BiStim2 and Rapid2 stimulators***
