I built a PVC pipe speaker over 30 years ago in the mid 90's before the internet was a thing. I had used a 3.5" car speaker mated to a 3" dia pipe. The thing got really low and like yours not as high without a dedicated tweater. Still, it was a fun project that impressed my friends. Good video!
Not gonna lie, from the intro I thought they were gonna be big floorstanding speakers and I thought they were kinda weird, like some kind of art piece. Then you picked one up and I said "Oh! They're cute!"
On a side note, it’s not a speaker “box”, it’s a speaker enclosure. Boxes are like square with sides. I actually use a tube design with a 100” long length 4” diameter of lightweight sanitary tube in my car for my subwoofer. The subwoofer enclosure is tuned to approx 17Hz.
I'd like to see these fittings pass a hydrostatic test and I'd like to know how long the rubber lasts.. But I will say I like it in this application. Very cool and always changeable.
I found your channel a few days ago, I like your scientific approach and overall good video quality, you deserve bigger audience. Didn't realize you are from Romania, hi from Ukraine. Have you tried using speakers from aliexpress? All what I can find across my country are some weird speakers designed for cars, T/S parameters are rarely mentioned. And european dealers for some reason either don't ship to Ukraine at all, or the delivery costs more than speakers themself.
Hello! Indeed Sound Imports doesn't ship to Ukraine. You can try Parts Express, as I know they ship to Romania. They most likely ship to Ukraine as well. If the shipping costs are too expensive, try ebay. I once found that the same item, shipped by Parts Express on Ebay, was cheaper compared to buying from their own website (talking about shipping cost). Not always the case, but worth a try.
Maybe you could try some speakers out of the garbage? Idk about Ukraine but i literally just found a sony subwoofer unit that I modified to be passive and connected to a cheap 2.1 aliexpress board. I would seriously start with something like that as that's what ive got going and its pretty good you could do something like that and then use the full ranges out of a dead boombox or cheap bookshelf speakers
I don't build boxes at all anymore. No need. I now only use pipes for smaller drivers and sonotubes for larger drivers. Why build boxes when pipes are easier and can sound even better when done right?
An idea - take that straight piece just before the port exit - remove it from there and add it to the top of the enclosure, above the top speaker. This should increase the offset of the drivers in the TL and might help to null out the response aberrations around 200 Hz...
Looks cool, but the sound seems to be somewhat doff. There are also much more solid pipe-systems with more meat for the screws. I have seen pictures of nicely colored pipe-speakers, and they look really great in any pop color, just not so good in the standard pipe-colors, that also may easy confuses drunken guests where to take a leak.
This channel is absolutely underrated, everything is concise and clear and very easy to understand.
Yea one of the best audio channels. Introduced me to diy speaker design.. So simple

Great bass!
I'm watching this in order to build a custom tube run for my ebike. I'm buying 4" subs and maybe PVC drain pipe would work!
