    Alot of those crossings are automatic on that route. Not surprised, it's quite rural

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  7 лет назад +2

      As-well as the rural location, these level crossings are on the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway which is a narrow gauge heritage run railway i.e. it is not part of the mainline. The railway is not run by Network Rail, who run all the mainline railways across Britain. Because of this, the railway doesn't have a lot of money and so is unable to spend money on upgrading the old equipment on these crossings like the halogen road traffic signals.

    I wonder which crossings the NRS lights came from. I liked the old battered looking Dungeness Road lights though

      +Nathan A RF The ones at Dungeness Road look like the halogens which use to be at Paignton Level Crossing a few years ago. The backs of the wigwags at Paignton were completely grey.

      UK Level Crossings I'm not sure. The lights are bound to be local and the ones that were at Paignton had added on boarders and were of a lighter colour I think

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  8 лет назад +1

      +Nathan A RF Yeah. They are most likely from an upgraded crossing somewhere in Kent or just out of Kent.

    I heard also that Romney Sands crossing is going to be upgraded. Can you film it when it is done?

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  8 лет назад +1

      Really? Is that with barriers or not? I didn't think they had room for any barriers as both sets of wigwags were on one side.

      UK Level Crossings Somebody updated Wikipedia saying that 'As of April 2016, work is underway to add berries to Romney Sands crossing' (something along those lines). They might move the wig wags or highlight the stop line or barrier more

      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  8 лет назад +1

      +Nathan A RF Hmmmm. Sounds interesting. Most likely they will be using the 'cheap' crossing barriers. God knows where they're putting them though. They'll probably leave the wigwags as they are.

      +UK Level Crossings I went on the railway Monday as a birthday trip and I saw no signs of work at Romney Sands. The double track crossings have unchanged since this video, although all of the single track crossings toward Dungeness (except Battery Road and Dungeness Road) have borders like Botolph's Bridge LC now. The gated signs that have been stuck over the open warning signs are appallingly placed, the wrong size and still have white bits around them. At Dungeness Road, the signs still say that it is an AOCL! I'm not sure where those new fitted old NRS lights could have came from. Would like it if you could get to those single track crossings some time soon.

      +Nathan A RF I know. The railway just stick gated crossing warning signs on top of the ungated crossing signs. They must have been doing it in a rush if they've been wrongly placed. It may be a little while until I can get down towards the Romney Sands and Dymchurch area. If there's a quiet weekend, I'll pop down with someone and visit the crossings along the Romney Sands area.
      When I was last up here, I noticed some old NRS wigwags with their bulbs taken out at New Romney in a rubbish stack. I couldn't get a good enough angle in view so failed at trying to capture them on camera. Don't know if they are using them again or not.

    Is it me or the owner of that railway likes AHB's cause the crossings on the video we mainly AHB. Also great video :)
    OR were they all AHB..... i would be shocked if it were true XD

      +MCLA Trains, The upgraded crossings are of the ABCL type, meaning that they are monitored locally by the driver of the train, hence the white flashing light which authorises the driver to pass over the crossing.

    no whistle approaching crossings in the uk ?

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  6 лет назад +2

      On some preserved railways yes, on mainline railways sometimes (unless it is a pedestrian / foot crossing, user worked crossing or crossing without barriers). Some crossings have whistle boards, some don't.

    • @Superstarr_
      @Superstarr_ 3 месяца назад

      Yeah they do!! Only on ones where cars pass and vehicles. Also ones before the station, and ones where pedestrians cross and workers. They whistle and it’s loud enough. Yes I’m late😂

    Nice AOCL + Bs!

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  4 года назад

      All 13 of them are actually AHBCLs (ABCLs) rather than the AOCL+Bs, but close enough 😉

      @@UKLevelCrossingsChannel So in other words they had barriers when installed. Makes Sense!

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  4 года назад +1

      They all originally had no barriers and were "AOCL" crossings throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Between 2005 and 2018, a level crossing renewal program took place which added barriers to all 13 of the crossings on the line.
