Panelling Experiment in Solidworks

  • This video covers what I discovered in my first exploration of panelling in Solidworks. Fairly successful however there is a lack of flexibility when it comes to changing the grid/panel count, as it requires rereferencing most features lower down the tree... Apart from that, the result seems fairly stable when it comes to changes or tweaks to the controlling surface, or the smaller 'pillowed' surfaces. I learnt a few things; using face curves and sketch segments to create a grid and then how to derive a diamond grid from the rectangular grid.

    Outstanding mate!
I used a few similar techniques to create a similar texture is SW but this is much nicer and more flexible. Great stuff

Dang! I have messed around with stuff like this in SW, but it wasn't fun.
Andrew, I see you have some Rhino tuts from a year or so ago... so do you do this to just challenge yourself or are you sometimes constrained to only using SW?

Yeah it’s much more fun in grasshopper but I’ve been working this one over in my head for a bit and had to figure it out. I’ve put a few videos online using grasshopper, might do some more investigation when I get the time

I missed the second bit of your comment. Not constrained to using only SW - I have a seat of SW, Rhino and (old) proE. I like to see what can be done that is outside the box, so to speak.
