    Got my 2002 Corvette just a few days ago. After I got over my initial shock of actually driving a true, off the assembly line high performance machine, I find that even though it's a 20-year car, it doesn't drive like a 20-year-old, and I love it. Sure, there are a few problems with it, but nothing time and money can't fix. First impressions: it brings back the joy of driving a car, it gives you confidence knowing you a few hundred horses under your total command. Best of all, you know you have the coolest car on the block. I am enjoying my 75th. year on this big blue marble, and my 'vette has just added a little spice to my life!

I've owned lots of 4sp Musclecars too, from T-10s to M22's ( I built a M22, close ratio, helical cut gears on my lap). The C5 was a huge leap from the C4 and the C6 is, like David says - is a slightly refined car. But - David, you say the C5/C6 does everything well, but noting really outstanding? Here's what mine does that is outstanding. Handling. F55 Magnetic shocks. AND the sexiest lines short of Ferarri. It'll be 20 years old in Dec. I watched it being built at the factory and helped install the driver's fender and melted the 50th badge onto the fender. You also didn't mention the Corvette community, which admittedly is dominated by Gray-hairs, but those gray haired guys drove and raced the 60's and 70's model cars that had 400-500hp before you modded the setup. -Loved the New Balance gag! Nice looking ride. The car just has a tune an intake and exhaust and your buddy said "it's just under 400hp to the wheels"? It's more like waaay under 400hp to the wheels with those mods. The tune may grab you 20hp max the exhaust and intake maybe another 20hp. That car is probably 325 to 330hp max at the wheels. Plus it's an auto with sluggish rear gears. Not fast or quick by today's standards. Drive an equally moded MN6 with 3.42 gears and it's a world of difference. Truly mod that LS1 with heads, headers and a cam and you'll get closer to that 400+ whp car. Then throw 3.90s or 4.11s in that auto and thats where it's at with a C5.

      @@mass9213 C5 started out with 345 crank HP and 350 torque from 1997 to 2000. (2000 yr got a cam upgrade for more low end torque to offset the addition of power robbing pup cats but max power remained the same). In 2001 the crank HP bumped up to 350 and torque output is 365 due to new fuel system and the LS6 intake from the Z06 became standard on all models through 2004.
      The wheel horsepower and torque rating is the power the car puts to the ground after parasidic loss through the drivetrain. Which in the C5 equates to about 12% on the MN6 cars and about 15% on the A4 cars. So on a dyno the MN6 LS1 cars average between 303 to 310 whp stock without a new tune. The A4 auto cars with LS1 see between 290 and 295 at the wheels on a dyno without a new tune.

      Wrong.
      In the inaugural model year (1997), only the fastback coupe was offered, with the convertible following later in August of 1997 for model year 1998. In the summer of 1998, a third bodystyle, the hardtop (also referred to as the "fixed-roof coupé" or "FRC"), was added to the 1999 MY lineup.

    • @conanlive3784
      @conanlive3784 2 года назад

      @@nachosilva3777 Nothing major. The light doesn't work on my heating/AC module, so I can't tell what temp I've got it set too. But I can just turn up the heat if I'm cold, or turn on the AC if I'm hot. The two main things everybody warns you about on these are the EBCM module going out, which I hear is not fixable. You lose your anti-lock brakes and traction control I believe (which are not deal breakers for me). And a gear in your headlight setup is plastic and eventually goes bad, meaning your headlights won't go up and down. This you can replace with a metal gear. But so far the only problem I have is the temperature control readout not working.
