I'm 75. I don't care about sewn versus glued. I care about print size. If I can't read it, I won't be picking it up! Since I have had to transition to large print for all of my Bibles, I got smart and bought inexpensive (cheap) large print Bibles and a couple of Commentaries in as large a print as I could find. I have had to adjust from having the ability to only need one text on my lap to also keeping the commentaries on the floor next to me (bit of a hassle), but at my age, one has to make changes! :)
I believe these were released before sewn bindings were the standard, and they took a lot longer to sell than anticipated once sewn bindings were more expected.
The glued binding is what always kept me from getting one of these. So glad they have brought out a sewn binding version! Thanks Tim for letting us know!
I just received the brown and tan bible today (7.2) from Amazon and it was sewn. I had watched your video AFTER I ordered it but it all worked out. Thanks for letting us know!
I was a bit late for the live chat. Although it is not a new feature, I want to say that I like the format of 2 - 1 - 3 columns to distinguish between Bible text, articles, and study notes. I really like the between the testaments section, especially the Cross and the Passover pages.
Tyndale wrote me. If you want a guaranteed Smyth sewn you have to get the indexed brown or hardcover one. I love mine!! I had to order it directly from Tyndale

The link I posted is directly from them yesterday. It is not indexed, but it is sewn. You do not have to buy the indexed version to get a sewn binding. This is the correct link.

They said they were going to go through the glued inventory for the ones that aren’t hardcover or the brown leather indexed (those are guaranteed sewn) so I suspect it may be up to chance if you order the NLT without the index. I hope they can replace them all soon!
Hi Tim! I have the former NLT Illustrated Study Bible that has the glued binding and printed in Italy. I love it. My question is, does this new sewn binding Bible have the same illustrations & features as the older one, or is it different?
Great review. I was going to post and say I love it apart from I spent most of Friday evening/night unsticking the pages :-) For me it seemed to be on the color images. They did come apart though without damage so I'm not complaining too much. I do really love this, it is really good.
Does the new edition have a new ISBN? I’m asking because I’m wondering how you can identify the newer one if buying online? Thanks for a great review and for the info.
I have the glued binding edition and if it was my daily carry I would certainly update it, but as a reference I keep on my shelf I will wait until it starts falling apart (which it surely will). Thankfully most Bible makers have moved past glued bindings on quality editions.
This is the link they provided for me to post with this video. I’d say the original date is 2015, but they are pulling from their inventory, which I am told is sewn. But to answer your question my copyright page says 2015, but the code on the bottom indicates it is the 3rd edition printed in 2022.

Christian Books does not carry it & in fact, a product person from there told me that she called Tyndale & was told that there are only glued bindings -not sewn. Oh . No. So I can expect my 8 year old giant hardcover to start following apart😢. And my favorite, the Illustrated Chronological Life Application Study Bible has the cover flaking off.

Great review Tim & good to know about the sewn binding. I plan on getting one of these. My question for you is how do you get more ribbons added? is that something you just know how to do so you did it yourself? I like the added ribbons.
Such a beautiful study bible. I've been waiting for a re-release with the sewn binding. Like others who are located outside the US I guess it's a waiting game to get our sewn copy. Tyndale really should have recalled the glued binding editions when so many people reported the binding issues. It would have also been better to re-release the sewn edition under a new ISBN to remove any doubt which copy you would get. But saying that, printing these things aren't exactly cheap. My hope for the future would be that more bibles are printed in the US rather than China.

Today, April 6, I noticed the last signature is pulling apart from the binding. Even with the Smyth-sewn binding, it's coming apart. It's a beautiful Bible and I love the content but this is so disappointing. I would not recommend this to anyone until Tyndale starts to take their QC seriously. I can send pics, if you'd like.

Hello folks: The sewn binding is only available on new stock of 2 bible editions. Please note the following that was passed along to me by Tyndale: We are slowly converting this line over to Smyth-Sewn bindings, one reprint at a time. As a result, there are only 2 bibles in this line that are currently available with these sewn bindings. Those are the hardcover, non-thumb-indexed and the brown leatherlike thumb-indexed. . . . I would also call a potential seller to see if you can find out how long ago they received their current inventory of bibles. The sewn bibles started shipping from our warehouse late last fall, so any seller who has been carrying their inventory longer than that may still have glued editions.

I don't understand why anyone would ever produce a gigantic Bible like that without a sewn binding.

Use the link I provided in my video description. That link is the exact edition and the only one currently available in a sewn binding.

This one does not come in a large print. But several of their other study bibles do.

I found out the hard way, Amazon is shipping the glued version. So I’m returning it and ordering from the link.

Should be, the glued bindings were all printed in Italy.

I had a glued one for a long time. It held up decently, but I’m glad to have a better option.

Tried to order the teal/chocolate today and was told by publisher they are still glued not sewn :(
There are only specific ones that are sewn. It’s sort of a confusing mess.
