For me you have the best review, focusing on raw camera!
With no portrait mode and and other software things that don't look natural yet!

Cool thing is that when you enable it in settings, the option to switch raw / no raw is always there on the screen. Most importantly - the attitude of Lee and the atmosphere you present on these vids is superb! 🙂

I’ll do a whole vid on Proraw because it’s very impressive. They have changed how it processes the raw too and it looks more realistic now. They let a little more grain to stay in the image so it doesn’t look so waxy
@@LeeZavitz agreed. That was my main criticism of ProRaw, too much processing was being done still and the grain actually adds to the overall look of the image to make it look more natural.

The amazing quality of the 48MP Raw shows that there is still much more room for improvment with the software. The 12 MP JPG is not that impressive.
I agree. I don’t feel like the 12mp even comes close now. 48mp raw is drastically better
@@LeeZavitz Have you tested the 12MP ProRAW vs the 48MP ProRAW?
The problem for me is there is like zero DOF on that main camera and 24mm is much too wide for portraits IMO. I dont think you can do portrait mode in ProRaw either. RAW disappears on my 13 Pro once I go into Portrait. So it would be useless to me anyways . I really wish Apple would upgrade their telephoto camera. Larger sensor with a faster F stop, at least 48 megapixels and let me shoot portrait mode in RAW. Might have to get a different phone for that.

This is the best video I have seen showing the capabilities of the new iPhone 14 Pro. I have seen videos where the users are taking basic shots or comparing them to other smartphones while sharing a bunch of specs. Your video was mainly about the shots themselves. I am very impressed by the quality of the shots, especially when considering it was not using Portrait Mode. I own a 13 Pro and I can definitely see an improvement in Bokeh shooting without Portrait Mode. I look forward to your Portrait Mode video. Any chance you can get a 13 Pro to do a comparison video? I know there are many owners that are on the fence about upgrading.
There’s not much difference between the 13 pro and 14 pro from my tests. The biggest upgrade is if you shoot raw on the main camera 48mp. Oh and the front facing camera is a big upgrade on the 14 pro
I want Apple to do more work on their potrait mode and telephoto camera .This is the camera and mode that people use the most and loves to use .So improving that will be amazing and I really don’t understand why Apple isn’t using the lidar sensor for portrait mode .It’s been three years since they introduced the lidar sensor but still they are not using it to improve the edge direction and depth mapping while taking portrait mode photos or cinematic video
It’s always getting better but it’s never gotten drastically better. There’s lots of room improvement
I don't have the 14 Pro Max yet but yeah, judging by reviews, the portrait mode still needs work. Noticeably worse results for edge detection than the latest Samsung phone.

Great shots! It's amazing what can be done with a phone camera these days.
Tell me about it. I have to put in extra work to get my R6 images to equal, or surpass my iPhone 13 shots. Despite being only 12 MP, I’ve been able print beautiful 13x19 images on my Pro-10. My only criticism of the iPhone 14 is the main camera 24mm equivalent focal length. I like the iPhone 13 26mm equivalent better. Honestly, for me, 28mm equivalent would be more to my liking. But, as my sage father once told me, “You cannot have everything, son.”

Lee eagerly waiting for iphone 14 pro portrait mode photos video .. Please give a big emphasis on portrait shots of people . Will like to see many example of portrait mode shots from different focal lengths (1x,2x,3x) and also both day and night time portrait mode pictures.Love your videos ❤

Great video. I wish Apple would go back to the smooth photos it once had. I've worked with Proraws, the photos are really gorgeous, but the moment it switches to jpeg/heif, the photos are insanely over-sharpened and look artificial (something that's been happening since the iPhone 12, but the 14 suffers from it the most, unfortunately other brands apply the same), which basically forces you to almost always shoot in Proraw, because there you can pull off the ugly oversharpening, and then it can really compete with DSLRs that are much more expensive (unless you zoom in and examine the details, of course). We are in a time when you don't have to be sad that you didn't take a big camera on a long hike. So cool!
It’s because most people who aren’t photographers will always love really sharp, over saturated hard HDR skies to post on instagram vs a nice smooth dynamic image. It’s what we will always get which is why Proraw has become so valuable to photographers because we can actually make it look how we want. But I agree. After iPhone 12 it lost the vibe we all loved
I think the should include a photographic style that turns down the artificial sharpness
@@LeeZavitz awesome shots you did...I wonder though, as an amateur photo dude who once took lots of photos on a panasonic leica camera with RAW format that I used to love to edit in post, I reckon I would use the raw format on iphone14 as well, over the oversharpened digitized 12mp format, but how quickly would 128gigs fill up??

Oh man, this is awesome! Really looking forward to getting this phone, my 12 Pro is pretty much all I use for both photo and video these days. Unless I'm going somewhere with the intention of taking photos, I usually don't drag the DSLR around anymore.

You have the best phone camera review. You made me buy S22 Ultra now I want this 14 Pro Max for Apple Pro Raw 48Mpx.
If you have S22U, I believe you should hold on at least till some updates later. The camera processing seems worse off with 14 Pro Series. Unless you're spending over $1K solely for raw files - of which you're better off with raw on Pixel phones.
Better still, wait for 15 Pro.
After watching these review videos, I would like to update my iPhone 11 Pro Max to 14 pro max, but I guess the reason why it is now out stock is that many people watched these review videos.Damn.
They were out of stock the same day they went up for preorder. You have to be fast if you want to get new iPhones around release day.

Honestly the sensor is so large now that it doesn't need a portrait shot anymore look at that natural BG blur. Looks amazing.
Yeah the main camera actually had some nice natural Bokeh. And it’s actually not as fast as the 13 pro. But yeah because the sensor is bigger it’s looking good!

For tons of people it will. But for pro work it will probably never be as good. Physics is one issue. Tiny sensor vs full frame.

Shooting with backgrounds smartphones are great,
sharp and detailed!
But for body shots with a nice and smooth background (bokeh) the camera are the winners for me.

2:14 Not downsampled. It reads out the sensor as a 12 megapixel Bayer array.
Good pick on locations. Like the natural lightings. The model knows how to pose well too. Also, you can set ProRAW to 12MB instead of 48MB as well. Thanks

I havent had an iphone since the 3g. Was that like mid 2000s? This camera is really making me want to go back. I've been purely Samsung because I find that you can customize them better. I love the external storage on Samsung. Who knows, maybe I'll make a switch for the next few yrs. I tend to hang on to my phone for a long time.

I remember when you compared the s22 and the 13 pro that you said s22 take way more time than the iPhone to take a picture. Now, how long does Apple take with those 48mp?
I would say it’s pretty comparable. Apple a little faster but it’s way slower than shooting 12mp raw

I tried the Xperia 1 mkiv and it was pretty awesome. The only issue is that it overheated on me after taking 5 photos lol.

I just picked up the iphone 14 Pro Max. Is there any advice on protecting the camera lenses without loosing quality? I worry since I carry the phone in a pocket. It would be nice if a removable lens cap was produced like we have for our camera lenses.

Thanks. Would like to see it compared to the 13 Pro though, no one seems to have that video for some reason. Probably because there is very little difference, especially for someone like me who hates wide angle portraits and shoots on the telephoto. Supposedly its the exact same telephoto lens which is very disappointing. I'll probably pass on this and hope the 15 brings a change to the telephoto lens.
