Hey Amelia , I'm a beginner and I've been watching your videos and I'm telling myself that ii can do this. It was really frustrating because ii didn't know how to go about it but now I'm motivated that ii can do it.
Update - I bought one of these, and I'm pleased to report that it plays really well. It feels just like playing a low D whistle, and responds to different breath pressures exactly as it should to reach the upper octaves. It sounds very nice, a more chiffy version of my familiar flute sound. Unfortunately it's too tight a fit in my flute so has had to be sent away for resizing, but I'm looking forward to playing my fully chromatic whistle soon 😄
Interesting... I wonder if the other whistle headjoint made by Abell would create a less airy sound. As for me, I don't think I would get headjoint that would let my brothers play my flute. 😅
The sound is very breathy and the range limited, but from the progress made in the limited time of this video, it seems that one could do better with practice. I am intrigued because recent jaw replacement surgery left me unable to hold a flute (which I have played on and off for over 60 years) in a position where I can get a good sound or get to the overblown notes at all. It might be a way I can keep playing a flute and not have to take up the oboe or clarinet to keep making music. If it's not too expensive, I think it would be worth trying.
The comparison between the head joints is interesting. With the flip head it sounds like a combination of her flute and a recorder, but doesn’t sound as good as either.
Hello, how are you? my name is thiago, and i speak from brazil, i saw your video about the flipehead and found it very interesting, i have a friend who is physically handicapped, he has a rare disease that limits his movements, he lives in a wheelchair, he played the clarinet, however after contracting covid, he has no more breath to play, he has a flute and can play, but he can't hold it in his usual position because he doesn't raise his arms, I wanted to know more about the fliphead because it would be a great option to help him, but we don't have nothing like it in Brazil.
Yes, it could prevent some clumsy people to accidently hit the head of their neigbourg flutist or piccolo player with the foot joint of the flute in an orchestra ^^ (lol) ... Actually, it is easy to hit anything with the foot joint of the flute if we play in a very narrow environement and hit a piece of furniture for example. And we do not really like it, do we, because the foot joint is already so fragile. I had to send it for revision twice in a year, and not because I used it to hit someone or a piece of furniture. The screws of the foot joint sometimes loosen easily and one of the paddles no longer covers enough to emit the low C sound at all. Fortunately, we do not need it very often, but still... it could still be annoying to have a defective foot joint.
Is it working any better for you yet? At 0:32 the fipple sounds very unconvincing, and you could only get a small range of notes from the flute, yet on their website the guy blows 3 octaves with ease. Was there a problem with your sample or does it just have very specific air requirements? I've been wishing for something like this for so long, I really want it to work! Merci Amelie
For me is not well refined yet. Also the problem with getting the second and third octave is that it would need a octave key to help jump to the high register because with a fipple is not easy to do
@@flutechannel I love my Pearl contra. IPad is full, so no new videos. Joined a city band in Germany this spring and learning some Deutsch during rehearsals.
Is a nice idea but when you played the fipple itself alone it didn't sound well and that makes the whole intrument note sound bad and airy. A more refined fipple like in a recorder would be better because if you play a recorder headjoint alone y sounds very different
Good Morning 🌞☀️😃 Amelie. Happy October 🎃🎃🎃🎃, That’s A Really Nice HeadJoint It Looks Just Like A Saxophone Mouthpiece!!! I Hope Your Having A Wonderful Day And I Hope Your Doing Well Today. I Am Going To Enjoy This Video 😊😊😊😊😊😊,
just commenting to say i know the tune. it's a day in the life of a fool, aka black orpheus, or manha de carnival and is a jazz standard. now i want to learn it on my flute.... but i'm not very good yet...
because the metal the flute head joint is so important for flute, I think the fliphead needs to be made of comparable material to compare sound quality. Silver plated with a plastic head is going to make a poor sound quality, just basic physics. Yes it will sound like a cheap flute.
I think it needs some refining personally. It has an interesting tone, kind of reedy and breathy. The lack of range and the unstable tone would frustrate me. It’s quite expensive too. That’s only my impression as an amateur who possibly doesn’t have the right credentials to critique.
Hm…In the fliphead videos I’ve seen and heard so far it sounds so much better than what you demonstrate here. Very sorry to see this. It doesn‘t give it the justice it actually deserves. Did you practice before shooting the video? No offence, just being curious why it sounds so very different than all the other recordings I‘ve heard so far with this mouthpiece. Just so you know what I mean: check out this guy playing Händel on the same mouthpiece for example: ruclips.net/video/_1zwSYRy224/видео.html
Its a first impression video for sure. I like it honestly and I've seen people who really play it often and its sounds great. I plan on making a video in a few months again and talk about it. Its a fun "extension" / "alternate" headjoint for sure.
Well it's not meant to be a replacement headjoint to play the flute in a regular way. It's more of a fun device to make your flute sound more like a recorder or low whistle instrument.
I NEED ONE!!
Fliphead is a plot to ensure that recorders will sound better than flutes :- D
Love your channels

Great to hear!
Innovative! I prefer the sound from the normal head joint though!
Makes me feel like….. there truly is no shortcut 😊
Thank you Ma'am, you have just saved me from spending close to $300 just by watching your video and the conparison between both headjoints. 😅

Perhaps, The Abell is 6-7 times more in cost though. So im not sure its comparable in all aspects. I want to get a hold of one eventually.

manana de carnaval ? 🤨😌😍🥰
Fipple flute, alternatively "recorder" so named for the fipple (whistle type mouthpiece), so Flip Flute is also a play on Fipple Flute. 😄

Do they make a reed version?
Wouldn't work the same way, it would overblow into 12th like the chalumeau, not the register the instrument
It changes the character of the sound quite a bit. I agree with Janine, it needs some refining 🙂
What is the cost ?
I prefer the sound of the standard head :-)
Where to buy this head join?😊
i am not convinced ;)

The high school saxophone player in me likes this. My ears? Not so much.
Do you play the recorder
Woww... I need it badly.
I love youre earings

Yeah! How are you liking your contra? I gotta get one!

Thank You for the great video!Does the fliphead makes flute plaing more easy?Kind regards!
Its just a different type of playing, more of a fun thing to try, but it can't replace a standard headjoint for most things.
Do you also play the recorder
MANHÃ DE CARNAVAL! That's the song!
Definitely different unlike your average flute.
Thx for the video, Amelie! 🙏
You're so welcome!
I WANT IT
A great way to make a good flute sound like a Flute-A-phone.
muchas gracias.
I think it changes the sound, and I cannot eart it clean ...
Black Orpheus 😉 it's a funny gadget, but I prefer the sound of a real headjoint
Hi Amélie, I sent you an email a few days ago concerning your tutorial videos in French. Did you receive it? Many thanks

hmmm... very breathy, hollow sound, even for someone with with Aimlie's ability. For $280, I'll stick to my traditional headjoint.
The name of the piece is the Portuguese word for "mañana".

Can be but I think is more the way the fipple is made more than the material. When played alone without the flute body it sounds unrefined and airy
😎
Black Orpheus or manha carnaval
The sound is different! Not excited about it.
Why hold a flute if you can do this . Also this a c one . Only for c
manhã de carnaval
Manha de carnaval
Orfeo Negro or Black Orfeus

I put an alto recorder head on mine. It sounded a lot better than this, less airy

You might have better luck with a saxophone mouthpiece.

It's not really that nice sounding.
I prefer the traditional way of playing the flute

@@flutechannel Yes. I was just stating my preference.
Dull & boring sound
sadly the 2nd and 3rd registers take sooo much fast air, when on a normal flute almost no air is required
