I managed to drag my son and husband to the movie, and as 20, 46, and 53 year olds, we all took something different away from it (and loved it). For me, that line hit hard. No, I don't think motherhood should be the only thing that defines you and I definitely think parents have to change as your kids grow up and need different things from you. You'll still be you but theres definitely an adjustment to your lifestyle and with each kid, it's a bigger adjustment lol. Her character was definitely in a transition period so I just felt for her character so much and her monologue was brilliant and made me cry. I already want to go see it again because there is so much to take in.
I was expecting camp, and fun, and satire from the Barbie movie. And I got it all! But I was NOT expecting the Barbie movie to make me cry 3 separate times!
"Not a pink ferret in a tube of plastic." Thanks for clarifying, Sydney. 😂 The pink hair looked good! And omg, that edition of Immortal Longings is stunning! 😍💅
My husband and I both have short hair and that makes me kinda sad that we can'r bead blast together. You made it look so fun. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Maybe we can do some bracelets. GREAT Vlog!
Oooo, yeah, I agree with both your thoughts on that line from the movie! As an adult child, it has been so lovely to watch my mom grow and change as a person in the last 10 years that we have been living apart (since I moved out and went to uni). We have grown together, which is so lovely and a really wonderful part of being the child of a mother! It does seem reductive to think of mom’s as people who stand still, when the movie over all is talking about women (including mothers) being able to be/do anything!
Oh my goodness this vlog was great. I have one thing to say… BEAD BLAST BEAD BLAST BEAD BLAST 💥 This was absolutely bloody brilliant, loved it, so so funny 😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I completely agree with you about that one line in the Barbie movie! I saw it yesterday too and I had been totally vibing with the whole movie and that quote definitely struck a weird chord in me. It was such a great film though!
As a Canadian - you have a Shania Twain/Barbie shirt?!?!?! You're amazing. I feel you about that line! I haven't seen the movie yet and I am so excited. BUT I AGREE 100 percent with Caleb's thoughts about life. North American culture totally idealizes youth. AND while it is good that people don't hide how challenging motherhood can be now, sometimes I think that's focused on too much! You don't stop evolving until you die (and maybe not even then who knows lol). Soapbox away on this topic...I was you in my late 20s, and now I am on the other side with three sons aged 5 and a half, 4 and 22 months. I think I am changing just as much, if not more throughout my thirties. Seeing the world through your children's eyes is a blast, and I make far better use of my time to work on my own hobbies now TBH. Ill get off my soapbox now 😅
Another Canadian mom here! I have not seen the Barbie movie yet. The Shania Twain/Barbie mashup is amazing. I will be looking out for the context of that line now for sure. I know becoming a mom (when I was 24) was one of the biggest times of growth/change in my life. I will be 36 in November and I have 4 kids (11yr, 9yr, 8yr & 20 months). I am not the same person I was 10-15 years ago. I think maybe in the eyes of our children we seem to be the same person, at least while they are young. I know I have moments now where I was like, my mom was my age when I was my daughters' age and I had no idea what she was really going through. She wasn't her own, individual person, she was just my mom.
@@beckyduff I've seen it now! I can understand how Syd interpreted that line, but that's not how I took it at all after seeing it. I took it as Mom's have to stand still and let their children (or ideas in the movie's case) figure out stuff for themselves. They have a life of their own so you have to "stand still" and let them live it and maybe they will turn out different than you thought but that's a beautiful thing!
I have enjoyed watching you guys for the last 2 weeks (when I discovered your channel :) ) and look forward to watching you on your journey. I would also like to add a comment to the discussion of the end line in the Barbie movie you were talking about. I am a mother of 3 and feel like the comment was wrong...for me anyways. I had my first child at 23, second at 32 and last at 41. I feel because of my children I did not stop growing but have found other growth paths to travel on. I now have others to cheer me, push me and encourage me to grow into something more than I was. I'm not saying that my life would have been crappy if I didn't have them but for me.....they helped me grow into a person I can love and admire. Keep going you guys, You Rock!!
I have stopped the video at 3. 32 seconds and you have just started but I believe that you can do this easily and no worries 😉 please stay safe and healthy and prayers and blessings for you and your husband and families love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
Okay, Caleb had me dying 😂 during the whole beads in the hair activity. Seeing you wear the can of worms and worm disco merch and the the reader tote is making me regret not picking those ones up. Are they still available on bonfire or will you be doing another round? I am so sad I haven't gone to see Barbie yet. I really need to make that happen. Love that you have got back into your writing Era. I hope to get back into finishing my novel soon as well. I think I'm waiting for NANOWRIMO in November.
yes!! those are always available, if you look in the "front desk" thread in discord i have them listed🥰 also SO exciting for you to do nanowrimo in november!! heck yeah!!:))
Those notecards are lovely! Are they Rifle Paper Co? I have an entire wall in my house with their wall paper. They should sponsor you. :) Those $15 extensions were amazing but not worth a headache, lol. LOVE the final tshirt!
😂😂😂 bead blast segment was the best I watched the Barbie movie and I loved all the bits in Barbieland butttt I felt kinda down about the whole women can't win in patriarchal society, its true, its life and it sucks, don't need to be reminded of it 😅 💅
As a mother, (and brand new one at that!) that’s totally wrong. I’m a better me with my son, he goes everywhere with us and we now experience life with him. We are growing as he is growing!
i don’t understand why so many women had issues w name changes when getting married. i got married in a different state + everything moved seamlessly :-:
Fairyloot is in the UK and uses the UK covers. Just fyi, it was a color change for Immortal Longings, not a re-design. "Exclusive" for them usually means re-color, it's only if they say "redesigned" that they commission new art.
i knew they were from the UK, but i guess i never really thought about the fact that it might be just a little different from that cover!!! hahaha thats funny, thank you for saying this!!😂
I hate the message that kids keep you from reaching your potential. That somehow motherhood puts your entire life on pause and that you have to sacrifice who you could have become for kids. Yes, there are sacrifices you make for your kids, but who you are as a person should never be one of them. The best example you can give your children is to live your best life, and then make it clear that they are lovingly, enthusiastically included in it.
But like every one of the books in the ACOTAR series has no big plot movement or actions until the last 100 pages. ACOSF is no different than the other 3
I totally agree that each book as a ton happening in the last 100! I just personally thought ACOMAF and ACOWAR had a lot more happening in each book steadily throughout, but also with a definite increase in the last hundred pages…just a humble opinion, maybe those storylines were doin it for me a little more? Haha who knows😝
I interpreted that as a CRITICISM of modern motherhood, not a necessary component. It was kind of random and it was worded poorly. Knowing the intention of the movie, I’m inclined to think the movie was warning AGAINST standing still as a mother, but I’m not sure! I see what you are saying.
@@sunkissedbeautyxo YES and she’s never known what it’s like to have a mother either?? I don’t know I’m glad I’m not the only confused one/questioning it😂😂💓💓
“I want to disappoint old men tomorrow” is pure, indisputable Kenergy. 😂💕
The "I just want to disappoint some old men..." was iconic.
The bead blast part is gold! I lost it when Caleb was whipping his hair!
Y’all are the coolest people ever my gosh. Bear blast segment was iconic. The way you two laugh together all the time is freaking adorable ughh🥹❤️
"this is so fun it's like a sleepover"
"i just want to disappoint old men"

I'm obsessed with the bead blast segment. And, I mean, all of it, but that was so fun.
