The Chase of NS 099 (N&W 611 - Road to Restoration) 5/25/14

If your a huge fan of the N&W 611 (even though it's not operational yet), this video is for you!! Also make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!
I met up with my friends to chase the N&W 611 on its way to the NC Transportation Museum for the Streamliners at Spencer event and to be restored to operational status. The group included myself, Glenn, Khalil (NS3210), Stephen (Canesfan7012), Cory, Jamie Sexton, Terry, Caleb, and Jake Highsmith. We started from Altavista, VA at the Hurt Connection and ended in Greensboro (although some of us went further to High Point, Thomasville and all the way to Spencer). Despite the massive foam-fest that came all over VA and elsewhere, we managed to pull this chase off. During the chase, we'll see several freight trains as well.

unfortunately, thats probably not going to happen. pieces of 1361 are scattered throughout the us, and all are still under investigation from her "restoration" in the 80's. the workmanship was poor because the funding for the project was low budget, so odds are she will need to be completely refabricated if you want to see her again... we're talking over $3 million for that... minimum.

I seriously doubt NYC 3001 will be restored for the 21st Century Steam. Look for N&W 1218 and/or N&W 2156 to be the likely contenders to join the program next, but they need to get that shop built in Roanoke before anything can be considered for either one.

Tailterrier27 10 years, try more like 5. Dunno where 10 came from, but I could see the VMT working out a trade involving the FT B unit, the Wabash E unit, and somthing else to keep the last Roanoke-built Y in existence in Roanoke.
