I never imagined that an event like this was possible. So good to see this many classic streamlined "race horses" in one gathering! I hope that this won't be the last time this occurs.
Steam fan at heart, but I love to see vintage, pre-1970 diesels. Cab units especially. They are up there with steam, and do not get as much publicity. Nice to see an event that can rival or beat any steam gathering.
It is comforting to know that there are countries committed to its railway history that enable these formations run with all the splendor of bygone years. Thanks for sharing
those were the days my friend, some serious horsepower here. wish I had been their to see it. the penn R.R. went behind my house when growing up. seen the Broadway limited and the Trail Blazer many a time
Honestly, there may be conflicts with the MU systems. In the early days, MU wasn't as simple as it is now with 24 pin connectors. 2 of the same engines from different roads may not have been compatible with one another. To have one of those old girls pull all the rest of them would be hard on the old traction motors and the idea of manning 26 units to run them simultaneously sounds like a nightmare. That would have been cool though.
These are very attractive diesels. Petty 611 couldn't join in the action, as perhaps the ultimate streamliner! That GE sound is very distinctive. Quite a few people despise GM here because they took over our rich variety of classes but the older units are nothing like the modern ones. At 11:45, that's what we would call some serious clag! I think Pa 5711 is the best-looking. 949 sure came a long way, didn't she?
I wish Pan Am could of helped out the Conway NH. RR and brought down their classic Boston & Maine F-7A # 4267 in Beautiful "Minute Man" livery of Maroon & Gold !!! It would have been the star.
well, what do you know, a yard full of trailer queens. i bet there's rust on the go lever between notches 3 and 8 on all of them. down here in victoria and nsw, the aussie equivalents are still getting hammered pulling freight. one of the operators rebuilds them and not for museums. they are expected to earn their keep. you should check out graeme white, greensleeves94 or bwdvd channels. and there are others. try "old emd's, epic struggle and stall: australian trains"
Cool, I didn't realize KRM had an L&N one, but I have to admit it's been about 25 years since I've been there. I know they do have that Monon BL2 at the KRM....that would have been a neat entry too.
+Blaine Bugaski No it has a Hancock Air Chime, as did a lot of NHRR Units, they adopted it because it sounded like a steam whistle.....The NHRR was tradition conscious and they did not want to sound any different from the steam engines that the diesels replaced.
I worked on that line for 20 years, and the old timers told me that the NHRR wanted have the new at the time, diesels sound like the steamers....That is what they told me anyhow!
Those are trainphone antenna. It was what the PRR used to communicate between locomotive crew and caboose crews. Diesels wore them on the roof, steam locomotives had them mounted on the tenders, and on both ends of a caboose.
His is sorta random, but even though it wasn't operating at the time, 611 was the most powerful locomotive there & could out pull all these classic great looking cab units.
The railroad use Mars lights for years and they work just fine I don't see any sense in using ditch lights hope all the railroad get the picture and quit blowing up these beautiful classic F units by putting ditch lights on them look better without them and always will
These Afghans were never made for ditch lights so when you see it f unit coming down the track with Ditch lights on it it looks kind of stupid and funny because there's no spot to push the ditch lights but on the front so that's why it don't look right and that's why a bunch of people are complaining I see everybody's point I understand the same thing too I have the same mind setting they need to remove the ditch lights and use a Mars line regardless of railroad safety rules these engines should never be modified from their original classic look dance in the style genus I hate to see railroads ruining these old engines by thinking they have to put ditch lights on the front of the engines when they don't fit they weren't made for them they were made for Mars lights the lights on the front they had to just fine for years and ditch lights need to not be put on them like I said before they are not made for half units and they never should be put on F units there made for modern-day units F units have Mars lights and a single headlight in the front
I guess there's nothing we people can do or say about these F units getting get lights put on them from the railroad companies all we can do is talk and wish but it won't ever happen because of railroad safety Society thinks that every engine that runs on the rails still in service has to have ditch lights no matter if they're an F unit or not I think it is so stupid that they ruin her good F unit and put ditch lights on it the front of the engines work made for ditch lights they look funny on the front because there's no spot for them and a single head lamp light I think the railroads to get the picture and keep putting ditch lights on modern-day engines not the older unit they weren't made for this stuff they don't look right and the ones they already put the lights on they need to take them back off and restore the engine back to its original look that they had back then that's the way they used to look guessing that streamline look it's like this make them look stupid and ignorant and take away from that streamline looked at everybody likes of an F unit
Not anything bad but every F unit I've seen in this picture that had ditch lights on them I just skipped right past cuz it made me sad to see ditch lights on the F unit it ruin that original looked at that unit used to have I don't even watch videos anymore nowadays because of this stupidity I know it's safe but not on F unit Mars light does better it shines further and it does a better
it uses air whistle instead of a typical horn, so on New Haven Railroad they use whistle on their diesel locomotive as a way to have a warning sound in a soft way
I drove 6789 when I worked as a Hostler on Canadian National in the 1960's. Smoking like this on a 251 prime mover usually indicated dirty injectors. or turbocharger problems.
ALCo/MLW locomotives are well known for coughing up clouds of exaust. The 244 prime moover was supposedly one of the finest “preformers” in this regard. That engine was installed in, among others, the classic RS-3.
I attended this terrific event, but was surprised that no classic Santa Fe Warbonnet unit participated.
I am so new to classic trains, and they look awesome.
that A-B-A, a glorious sight!
from long lost road of anthracite...

Come to the CVSR we got them running all the time.
Amazing video. Streamliners are beautiful.
What a stable!!!!! C&NW yellow or the G&M. All beautiful!
It is comforting to know that there are countries committed to its railway history that enable these formations run with all the splendor of bygone years. Thanks for sharing
Super. I would delight so delight in being able to walk through a F unit
Now that is a train set right there.
Locomotives with beautiful design and color!
The Lackawanna 644 10:00 pulling into the romantic old style station at night is just beautiful. You could turn 10:04 into a poster.
To bad someone didn't think about having some people dressed as they did in the sixties
waiting outside the station to board the train. 🚃 🚃 🚃 🚃
These types are far better looking than the locos they have out now.
Timeless design. Just gorgeous.
I love the design on these old E and F units
That E5 Zephyr steals the show wherever it goes.
I love how new haven 2019 has a whistle
Childhood train set style locomotive!
CN #6789 is my favorite. You can't go wrong with an ALCo
y6
Except with the 244 engine... and the electrical system being a nightmare...
Mlw not alco, it’s Canadian
@@jadedfox4672 MLW is just license built and expanded ranges of ALCos
@@Buick_GSX mlw is the Canadian division of alco, just like gmd is the Canadian division of emd
Thanks for sharing. I was there on Thursday and it was an event I won't soon forget.
Wonderful old school machinery
Holly F'in A units!!! That is a fine collection.
What a fantastic line up. great vid.
I love seeing that Erie unit in Port Jervis NY near my house .This is the first time I have seen it in action
those were the days my friend, some serious horsepower here. wish I had been their to see it. the penn R.R. went behind my house when growing up. seen the Broadway limited and the Trail Blazer many a time
Loved the two Illinois railway museum locks therw
I've never heard a diesel chime as beautiful as that NH FL9.
Classic hancock air whistle! The New Haven used them extensively on their diesel locos.
Hasta hoy día, las locomotoras más hermosas, unas verdaderas bellezas
I was really looking for the 26 E & F unit lash-up run by. I guess I'll just have to keep dreaming.

I LOVE the classic E units!!
Mike D same here they r my fav
great video...thanks for sharing..!!!
Look at these streamliners
Beautiful locomotive 🚂 16:38
I need to take cold shower. These are gorgeous.
Jaw dropping!
Very cool railroad event.
Saw the NH unit in Holyoke MA when it was on the way to Spencer. Didn’t have a camera with me.
That looks like fun!
MORE POWERFUL THAN A SPEEDING LOCOMOTIVE
Just listen to the Nebraska Zephyr's bell at 4:54 it sounds so cool and so is #1189
It sounds like metal space bell
Howdy ,i was very impressed with this video .
OMG this is amazing. Is this on every year? I might need to take a trip down next year.
I like the C&O and the Nickel Plate Road 190

You know PAR. They won’t get off their a** unless the alternative is more complicated.
Ronnie Farnsworth also KCS and the Santa Fe units too
Nice
I LOVE the New Heaven Loco.

Someone needs to build a b unit to go with the E5 the silver pilot
wow the last surving alco PA
Jeff Demition there are still a few left
Surprised thier wasn't any Baldwin shark nose units.
well most of it are scrapped or in a bad state to restore
too bad the SP E9 6051 couldn't make it, would've been cool to see the daylight there
I was to far away to attend ;(
Also the soo FP unit?
