    I grew up right by where that old H&NW line came up the Hamilton escarpment. By then the tracks were all gone and converted into a recreational trail, which I went for walks on all the time with my parents and childhood friends. I ALWAYS wondered what it would've been like when it was an active rail line with trains coming through. Needless to say I just ordered this DVD.

      I did see some action on this line in the early 70s growing up in Hamilton.
      Also TH&B still in operation before CP take over.
      What did H&NW stand for?

    Three of these former CN units found there way working on the Carolina Southern Railroad in Conway SC. One eventually was used for parts and the other two just got sold and are going to be refurbished. I got the pleasure of actually riding in 9163.

    A master mechanic in Hamilton was a fan of these units and had sets brought in Then one day an engineers from TO failed to put the K-2A in passenger lap position on the trailing unit which resulted in flat spots on the unit

    I never really appreciated the FUnits . Uts fun to see a CN with more than two units on each train. Train watching was so much more exciting. Back then even the cars were painted with an insignia. Now its a train with 2 engines that are the same , 100 black tanker cars or 100 grey grain cars ---- and no caboose. Boring

    how much work was it to convert the video from vhs to digital

    • @GreenFrogVideos
      @GreenFrogVideos  7 лет назад +2

      This original footage was shot on Beta-1 and Beta-2 tape formats, Beta which became other formats as well--(betamax, ED Beta, then ultimately Professional Betacam) was actually a superior format compared to VHS for a number of reasons. We transfer the footage via analog thru high end equipment with time base correction and digital noise reduction. The transfers are real time, then once in Digital format you can do almost anything with the footage quite easily!

  • @iggyjill

    Why the caboose on both ends?

    • @judgedredd8657
      @judgedredd8657 8 лет назад +1

      easier to run the power around and not needing to change the caboose from end to end

    • @cesariojpn
      @cesariojpn 8 лет назад +1

      In another video about oil trains, there is a "spacer car" that separates the engines from the tank cars in case something catastrophic happens. Since these are steel trains, the caboose probably serves as a "spacer" from the steel bars in the case of a wreck and they don't quite impale the engines a/or crews. Less costly to replace a caboose than an engine.

    • @loganbaileysfunwithtrains606
      @loganbaileysfunwithtrains606 8 лет назад +2

      +cesariojpn or so the crew doesn't have to move the caboose to the opposite end of the train
