r/Entitledparents This entitled mommy decides that she wants to go out on a date night. The only problem is that she needs someone to babysit her little brat. So does she hire a babysitter like a normal person? Nope! She hands her kid to a total stranger and then sprints in the opposite direction, expecting the stranger to babysit for free for several hours. As a person with autism who can't take being yelled at either, i will inform you that it can be CRIPPLING for us and often is. It is incredibly easy for us to have a mental breakdown just from being yelled at, among other things.

I feel sorry for you, as my best friend has autism (+ADHD and OCD) I *kinda* know how it feels, now his Mother is cutting all contact with me because I'm the only one who remotely gives a shit about him. (Younger sister is an *ENTITLED BRAT* that caused the contact-cutting because I let my best friend use my spare bunk on my bed. His OLDER sister gets treated normal, not spoiled or neglected either, his Dad left when he was young, even though I never met his Dad, I resent him. My sister hates him and calls him "Retard" and my Dad doesn't like it when I tell his Mother that she is a bad parent. (Yelling/Screaming at him for playing with me on the PS4, not because it annoys her, but because he ENJOYS it
TL:DR Yeah, I kinda know how it feels

Yes! I'm autistic too and I will admit it did rub me the wrong way slightly when he said "pretty sure everyone else gets stressed out too so don't worry about it." While that is true, it is the amount of stressed out we get that is unique. I will lose my ability to talk, cry, hide, have a panic attack - likely all of the above - if someone is upset with me. They don't even have to be yelling directly at me either. It can even be me overhearing someone in another room talking about how they are upset with me. So I can imagine how awful OP felt when being confronted by that Karen. In fact I'm impressed they were able to collect themselves and quit on the spot
And PS: I know Rslash meant nothing wrong by saying that and I hold no ill will - but hopefully we will be listened to 😊

Right!? I got diagnosed with asperger's at 8 years old and I was the type to get stressed out and cry. Now I'm at that point where I lose my cool. To further explain, I'm very willing to accept responsibility of my own actions over a mistake that I made. However, I will gladly defend myself if I'm wrongly accused of something that either A. I had no part of and didn't do, or B. Getting blamed over something that wasn't in my control in the first place. Plus, my autism doesn't help when I have an abusive petty excuse of a father, which I will gladly share stories about on Reddit and may potentially add some more content on Entitled Parents, Malicious Compliance, Petty Revenge and Raised By Narcissists. There is soooooo much horrible stuff that my dad has done that I feel like I'm writing a whole novel series here lmao.

Regarding the private school cleaner: He could get so much more than just a day's pay. The "boss" at that school violated the ADA, which even private schools can be completely shut down for doing. Would *Love* to have seen the look on "boss's" face when he realized that by lying, he opened up his school to an official investigation by the ADA, DOL, whatever state board certifies the school's legal ability to teach, and a discrimination lawsuit that they would never be able to win. Wouldn't shut the school down by any means, but it would cost them thousands, if not millions, in fines and reparations, and they'd deserve it.
Unless he wasn't in the US. He said "through university" so he may be from the UK or a commonwealth nation, and I have no idea if they have an equivalent of the ADA.
Edit: I checked the Reddit post, apparently they are in the UK, and the law there is even more strict than the ADA, but like most of the civilized world, workers still aren't properly educated on or informed of their rights, so OP was unaware of it at the time.

10:50 "OP, you said that a side effect of your autism is that confrontations/conflicts/being yelled at stresses you out. That's something that stresses out pretty much everyone."
It's a very different stress for autistic people than neurotypical people, our stress response is much more easily triggered and something that would make you feel just a bit stressed would reduce me to tears. Getting yelled at by anyone can send me into a panic attack in seconds and conflicts make me cry no matter how prepared I am for them. It's a much different psychological impact on autistic people than neurotypical people, as I stated earlier, because we have psychological differences that cause our emotional responses to be off as a side effect of our inability to pick up social cues as easily as neurotypical people.

About the autistic OP and conflict... Yes, it may stress everyone out, but most likely not to this degree. I'm on the spectrum as well, and the last time a guy talked to me condescendingly I cried as soon as I left the tram. It's a level of stress that's overwhelming and almost always ends in crying for me.
Not scolding you, I just don't like the "everyone experiences that" reasoning, because it dismisses the problem.

Hey rslash - at 10:48 you say something along the lines of "OP, you said a side effect of your autism is that confrontation/conflict and being yelled at stresses you out - that's something that stresses out pretty much everyone so, don't worry about it."
While I know you probably said that in good faith to cheer OP up and make them feel like "hey it's no big deal, we all have problems like that" sometimes saying this can actually have the opposite effect. I'm not sure if I also speak for OP in this scenario, they may think different, the following is just my personal response to hearing that.
Comparing someone's unique symptoms of autism or indeed any other legitimate health condition with what the average able-bodied neurotypical person feels can be quite toxic. It can make the person who lives with the genuine condition feel like their symptoms are invalid or "just something that everyone else gets" which in turn can make them doubt the validity of their condition and start to have thoughts such as "Am I making this up?" or "If everyone else has it, why can't I just get a grip and deal with it like they do?"
I know you didn't mean any harm by saying it, and perhaps I'm going a bit overboard in my explanation here - you might know most of this already. However, as someone who struggles with conflict and being yelled at myself (due to serious mental health difficulties and related childhood trauma) I felt the need to say something as, for me personally, it can be extremely demoralizing to hear my symptoms compared with a normal reaction. I've had to do a lot of therapy just to change my way of thinking into accepting that my reactions *are* valid and not typical.
Again, you're an awesome guy rslash and I really enjoy your videos, they make my day. So please don't take any malice from this, just some friendly advice. :)

"Thats something that stresses everyone out" ...The key word in what they said, is that it impacts them beyond belief. Most people can deal with general conflict like that. But as someone who knows the sheer weight that gets put on when the centre of confrontation, no, not everyone gets that way.

I completely understand how OP feels in that situation. I always thought I was just super soft when it came to confrontation because I would react in the same way. And not just little things like some asshole calling you names, but stuff like being berated or lied to by someone you respect puts me in a bout of weeping.
And no, I haven't been diagnosed with autism, but I think I should go talk to a doctor.

    • @raeishimura
      @raeishimura 4 года назад +1

There are some people who really are just that civil. Those people are the kinds who could potentially pull off a "Murdered by words" if they have the inclination. Like, when i am REALLY irritated, i don't swear or get angry, i get very civil and simply rip into a person. Tear into their behavior, attitude, and go full on psychological warfare in the most polite way possible. Its hard to respond when politeness is also pure savagery. So, i can believe it. I imagine that those people are just restraining themselves

Talked to me like he knew my job better then me etc. He made a mistake which made me enter some information wrong and then he told me I was stupid and blah blah. I cried. The headphones story just reminded me that I went to a (very small) private school when I was rather young (5-7yo). School was so small that there was only one classroom per grade level. So small that we only had ONE custodian for the whole place. I remember him being held in high regard; the kids all loved him, we called him by his first name (Mr. Alex), and he was so beloved and a part of the school that he was in the yearbook every year.
Makes me sad that people shit all over custodial and maintenance staff. They’re the reason you have nice, clean, running facilities to enjoy.

rSlash, although most people get upset by confrontation, they usually know how to deal with it and cope. Then maybe cry about it later in private. Autism makes it hard to respond without crying, or just breakdown right there anyway. Very difficult to be taken seriously when you look like a grown up cry-baby. :/

I have worked at a private school where there was a resident handyman who would manage most manual labour jobs around the premises during the day, and he'd often be seen driving around in a golf buggy. At the staff ball at the end of the year, we actually surprised him with an award thanking him for each and every one of the issues he had gone out of his way to fix without ever asking for thanks. Warmed my heart to see that in a private upper-middle class school there was a degree of humility that never went away.
