Make sure the camera is set to P,A,S or M mode. Then follow my instructions to activate time lapse mode. Once activated from menu tap the shutter button to go into capture mode the press the shutter button again to start time lapse
This is a great tutorial thank you! When I try importing the timelapse video using OI Share, it imports as individual photos rather than the video. Have I missed something? Thanks in advance!
That is the best way to do time lapse. If you drag the individual files into your video editor you can import it as a sequence and it should put them all on the timeline frame by frame.
Thanks for the tutorial, I've two questions : -I would use antishock shutter during the time lapse, but it seems to be disabled (it only works the anti noise shutter function) -I made several time lapse clips , now I have transferred it to external memory and I want to cancel all this stuff from the camera. Are thousands of pictures.... I have to select one by one to cancel !!! (I have not find a way to select a big interval of picts.) Thank you for the answers.
I made a few time lapses and I'd like to make one of a morning sunrise, knowing full well the brightness level will increase significantly. Can the camera adjust for increasing brightness while in time lapse? Thanks.
+rberling1 hey there, the camera can be set to A,P or S for auto exposure which should adjust for brightness. You may have to test each setting to see which one produces the most even exposure.
+James Grace Not that I am aware of. Unlike the charger that you often get on cam corders, the charger that comes with the OMD is a stand alone unit that won't connect to the camera. But if you turn off the LCD preview after you compose your shot by tapping the button to the right of the EVF you Should get long life out of your battery. Hope this helps.
Hello and thank you for the tutorial. I've shot some frames and they are all the but the camera does not process them automatically at the end to create the video. How do I turn them into a video? Thank you
+Rosa Abruzzese for future time lapse you can actually turn the auto movie feature on in the time lapse sub menu of the OMD. If it wasn't turned on during your time lapse you can import into the frames into a movie editor such as iMovie, Premiere or after affects and then make time lapse sequence from the still frames.
I have a similar question. I made a time lapse and I can watch it as a movie on the camera itself, but I can't seem to find it as a video when I try to import it using Ol.Share. All I see is the individual photos. Is there even a video file there, and if so how do I locate it so I can share it?
It's my first to own an Olympus OMD EM5 MKll. This video you created to explain how to create Time Lapse in OMD EM 10 MK ll, is it the same process in OMD EM5 MK ll?
I haven't tried it on an EM5, However I think the software is pretty much the same on all OMD so should be very similar. Just look for the Interval.Sh/Time Lapse option in the main and follow the instructions and it should work.
hi can I use my camera for video blogging? i want to take a video of myself but it's focussing on my face too much. any pieces of advice? btw I'm using my kit lens.
On the rear menu you can go into the fourth menu item on the left, the settings tab and then go into AF/MF. Go down to the movie option and experiment with each of these. I use S-AF and it works well if I don't move around too much but you can see the shift in focus sometimes., You can try C-AF or C-AF+TR(Continuous Auto Focus and tracking. See which one works the best for you.
hey dude nice video. but i have a problem. i cant click on the time lapse button. it is a little bit darker than the other ones and i dont know how to fix it. help me pleaaase!
Hey there, Time Lapse mode only works in A, P, S and M modes. For some reason it won't work if your on the intelligent auto mode. Thanks for checking out the video and for your comments. Cheers!
Sure, you need to use the menu button on the back of the camera and then in Camera menu 1 select the fourth option on the right Under Picture Mode by using to down arrow to get to it then the right arrow to open it up. Under the Still Picture mode is the Movie button for Movie Mode. Move down to it and then right arrow to reveal the drop down options for frame rate you can go to 50p at full 1920 by 1080 which is semi slow mo but for full slow motion effect, scroll down to High Speed 120fps...... The only issue downside with slow motion mode on the OMD is that you get a small 640 by 480 AVI movie. Its not HD.....
+Coug4r make sure the camera is set to P,A,S or M mode. Then follow my instructions to activate time lapse mode. Once activated from menu tap the shutter button to go into capture mode the press the shutter button again to start time lapse
No problem, there is a panoramic mode which you can find in the SCN mode on the top Dial. When your in SCN mode use the back dial and scroll down towards the end to panorama mode. The Panorama mode shows you guides to help you line up shots but only saves down the independent files and doesn't stitch them for you in the camera. For some reason to get it working properly you need an Olympus branded Smartmedia or xD card in you camera. You also need to use photoshop or some other panoramic stitching software to build you Panoarama. It doesn't' do it in Camera. See the full info here: www.olympus.com.au/Support/FAQ-Trouble-Shooting/Digital-Cameras/How-do-I-work-with-the-Panorama-feature
Yeah a bit of a shame that it doesn't do it in camera. I also found it strange that you have to have an Olympus memory card for it to work. Anyway hopefully you can still do some great panos the manual way. Thanks for watching the video and for your question. Cheers!
Yes, you can press the little button on the right of the EVF to toggle view from LCD to the EVF and this certainly does seem to improve battery life. I like to keep the LCD so I can continually monitor the scene but this does take its toll on the battery. Cheers!
I have a great view of the Melbourne skyline. I'd love to do a full day from sun up to sunset. Unfortunately the battery isn't going to manage that. I'd need a number of batteries and monitoring it all day long. A few years back I found a canon remote that did time lapse, the beautiful thing was that it would turn on the camera each time (taking a photo every two minutes for example). Do you know if this is possible with the OMD E-M10 MII?
That would be an awesome time lapse shot. Re the battery issue I mentioned, I think that if you turn off the LCD display at the back while in time lapse mode it would last much longer. So worth giving it a go. I also have an intervalometer for my Canon 5D but never considered one for the OMD. I have seen a few on ebay and amazon, however they don't specify compatibility with the EM 10 they seem to be for the EM1, EM5 and so on. However If you ask the vendors they might confirm that for you. They seem to have the same micro usb connection so may work. If you get a chance to test the full day on the OMD with LCD off let us know if it works. Keen to know.
Hi there, I don't think you can connect an external battery to the olympus. You should have enough charge to handle quite a number of time-lapses. You can also consider turning off the LCD viewfinder by tapping the button next to the EVF to save battery life.
Yes you are right. The OMD does only allow you to select up to 999 in a single time lapse sequence. Other cameras I have used have unlimited as an option. To get around it you can quickly re enter time lapse mode once the first 999 frames are done.
Great video. Question- when the individual frames are all done and the camera creates the video I am having trouble importing the video to my ipad. The still frames are all there...but the video created by the camera does not appear when connecting with the Olympus app. Do you know how to import the video created by the camera? great concise explanation. clear and understandable, easy to follow along. Thanks.
Thank you for your feedback Tracy, Greatly Appreciated!
it's 2020 during the pandemic. thank you for this video. it was helpful
Anytime. Yes things have changed a little since this video was shot. Still a great camera for travel and street photography.

Thanks for making this, very helpful!
Great to hear. Thanks for checking out the video and for the feedback!
When I try to select the timelapse option from the list, I can see it but it won't let me select it. Any ideas as to why?
Make sure the camera is set to P,A,S or M mode. Then follow my instructions to activate time lapse mode. Once activated from menu tap the shutter button to go into capture mode the press the shutter button again to start time lapse
Thanks so much!!! Got it working!. Never thought I'd get a reply!!
That's great news. Have fun with it now. Cheers!
Can you use the electonic shutter with timelapse to save on the wear on taking 1000s of shots otherwise.. Thanks
I am not 100 percent sure but I think you could do that.

Good easy tutorial...
Is it possible to shoot time lapse while the camera is charging? Camera would be on a tripod for the time lapse? Thanks for the video.

Hi,
Thanks for the video. When time lapse movie is disabled and it's storing the images are they raw or scaled to 4K?
The photos are stored as raw or jpg at their full size depending on what setting you have selected for images in the main menu.
I am not able to access my timelapse function. Any ideas on what is happening?
+KaiPettifer time lapse won't work in iA mode. Try going to A, P or S mode in the main dial then go to the menu and select time lapse
Touch Technology Review i have the same problem and I thank you!

How many frames per second does is play if you let the camera compile the timelapse movie?
4k records at 5fps and FULL HD at 10fps. Movie file format is AVI

Hi my interval / timelapse button appears to be greyed out on my camera is anyone able toAdvise ?
Hey Steph, Time-Lapse mode won't work in Ai mode you just need to move the main dial to P, A or S mode to get it to work.

its not really a video timelaps,it is more on photo laps instead
