  • The Isle | Migrations explained and my thoughts
Migration alongside Gateway is one of the most anticipated features that will potentially come in update 7 (yes I know the devs don’t number their updates anymore but it is my choice to do so). This new mechanic may very well add a new fundamental component to the isle that might not only fix some of its current problems, but also enhance its gameplay in a meaningful way. This system has been teased for quite a long time at this point, but now I believe we have enough information available to at least get an idea of what we can expect from this so hyped mechanic.
Hope you enjoy the video and see you in the next one, stay safe :)

I believe it's going to be a great mechanic, it literally forces players to move by de-spawning the food after a certain amount of time. It also prevents mix packers and over packers to, on top of which it prevents those who just want a Dino fight club.

I personally feel like Migration will both be a Good and Bad thing.
First of all, I'm going to talk about the "Good"
Spawning in as a Juvi, you'll be in areas where food already is. Just like how it is currently, but, perhaps better. If a migration is in effect, it would help bring people to more players, in hopes for protection. And, just to hangout with other people in general.
    --
I also think Nesting might become a lot more popular. Especially, since people are far to busy dying over every little thing to focus on such a relaxed mode of the game. This part of the game also takes.. A LOT of time, to rear another player into the mix of things.
    --
The hopeful prevention of Mixpacking, is going to be a nice addition; as it mentioned A pachy may never ever see a Stego in their life time, if following the Migration paths, however, if exploring they CAN, at the risk of not gaining any proper nutrition! Which.. honestly in this case, wouldn't really matter, unless they remove Grazing for specific dinosaurs. And upped the Bad side effects for eating the wrong source of foods. But, nothing that couldn't be fixed by, eventually moving back on the "correct" path and eating your preferred diets. No harm no foul.
The Devs are trying to add an organic "spin" and game-play loop for Herbivore players, as they kind of currently don't have one. I do hope its not just 1 spot to the next, over and over again. But, changed up for the fun of it. So that people can see the whole map eventually. But, perhaps the "Region Lock" is coming in Gateway. Where, Teno's were suppose to be found near swamps, or in Plains. and no where else. That kind of thing.
    --
Now, lets talk about the "Bad"....
It is FAR MORE than LIKELY, that people will KOS each other, regardless of following the migration paths. I mean.. look at it, as it stands now. Stegos killing other Stegos for no reason other than, just cuz. Same for Teno's and Pachys! Carnivores at this point would be a GOD send, for those who wish to Kill something, maybe, it would make the Herbi "Mentality" slightly less "Toxic" in other peoples minds. So, keep in mind, that you still can't TRUST other Herbi's just because your the same species. (NOTE: This rule maybe "Enforced" on Private Servers, to be friendly and formal. But... never a guarantee. Just sayin')
I can absolutely see people coming in, in large groups just to KOS other Herbis, just... because. 🤷You wont be able to hide from them, because that's where the migrations take you. As THEY will want all the food for themselves, just to prevent other people from growing their 'power' via perfect diets. They want weak people to slaughter because its laughable and 'fun' for them. At that point Carnivores will become overpopulated, just because more often than not, angry people will want to "revenge kill" these people. Soooo.... yeah... And, they will take advantage of that.
Unless... for some reason, there's some kind of Debuff, that gets slapped onto people for KOSing the same species, which I highly, highly doubt! As, that too... could be abused! If people want to kill other people, due to lack of activity.. and I mean LACK of activity; Herbivores are going to 110% kill each other, it already happens. There's no point lying about it!
    --
If Solo players can't survive alone without the risk of getting mobbed by hostile herbies of their own species, they will in fact, die.
Without friends. and lets be honest. Not everyone has friends to just group up at any given time of the day, because your being tailed by 10 KOSers. And, lets be honest. It WONT be for the "Lack" of food. From the sounds of it. There will always be more than plenty of food to go around. The Migrations only activate when the food gets low, and Booyakasha! Thousands of more plants just spawned elsewhere on the map for you to travel too. So, that will not be any concern there. Long story short, there HAS to be something viable for Solo players, other wise, once again. You'll get an upsurge in something that can nuke the "toxic koser people"... Then the KOSers would turn into something that can kill what killed them.. and the cycle of abuse would... continue...
    --
Nesting, at that point, would return to 'Unviable" since you can't trust anyone either. Unless, again, its on a Private server with those specific rules in place and not on Official Servers.
I honestly hope that Solo players aren't.. forced to try and make "friends" that they can't possibly trust, in order to survive. From the sounds of it, that wouldn't be the case. But, who actually knows.
THEN THERES Megapacks... you thought this might change? Nah.. it actually might make it WORSE. So, for example. You have 3 Tenos on the whole server. Then, a Megapack of Carnos come charging in, because, they learned the Migration Paths for Teno. Tenos get nuked with no hope of survival. OR they looked up the Migration Paths on some Website; so learning it wouldn't even be necessary. They'd just run to those areas before they locate, where in the migration pattern you are...
This may seem kind of pessimistic, but its honestly.. just realistic expectation. I already see it in the game. Its not going to change any time soon. Unless, something HUGE changes everyones behavior in game. Migrations may keep everyone friendly for like.. a week, before people simply get bored and just nuke each other for "because they're bored." That's.. unfortunately just how it is.
I can put a grain of salt of hope, that this wont be the case.. but.. well.. 🤷

You said that herbis would have It eaiser to kill other herbis, but in my opinion It doesn't, because the herbis will know carnivores will find them, so they will think 2 times if it's worth killing the only players that are going to defend them, their own species

My biggest fear is that it will make the already rare nesting almost non existent. Basically the biggest reason I find that nesting doesn't work in Evrima is because you always have to be moving around for food. In Legacy there were no diets, and both animal AI and plants were everywhere, so you could settle down somewhere and nest. In Evrima, herbivores want good diets, and they can't stop moving to nest without at least one of them depleting. Carnivores have to eat specific animals to have a good diet, so they are always looking for those specific animals to eat, and there is no small animal AI.
So basically I think the diet system has a parasitic relationship with nesting, and migration will only exacerbate that, eliminating any possible time for players to settle down in a spot and nest.
And the whole current diet system is very unrealistic, yes some species have to move around and look for food and migrate, but many if not most species live in one area constantly. And the species that do migrate- especially birds that have to lay and care for eggs- have a season where they stay in one place and have their young and raise it until it can keep up with the herd.
I personally think diets should be a way weaker system, that most animals should have an area that has all the diets it needs, and that the species that do have migration have a designated nesting season.

Carnis dont have to eat specific dinos at all, they can get all their diets from eating the organs of any dino (with the exception of cannibalism) and get a a full diet hexagon in 3-4 bites from an organ, herbivore diets on the other hand are trash, carni players are far less restricted. This mechanic will only make the game worse for herbivores, who are basically being doxxed to the predators that always far outnumber them on the map. This mechanic only ruins nesting for herbivores

I would sugest they add little hotspots of prefered foods scattered in specific locations around the map, like abandoned farms or little groves to complement the migration zones where herbivores could go in search of food if they don’t want to go to the migration spots or if they are on their way, this would make it more of a sugestion rather than an obligation to go there at the cost of having to explore the map more and wander around or learn the map, this would give players options as well as spread the players out in an organized snd semi predictibke way, this would help with the carnivore swamping, as not every member of a species would be at the migration spot, so their predators could also maybe be at the little hotspots or maybe not, because as it is right now, one would expect that migration spots would be a place where every member of a species would be, so their predators would also all be there, making that zone either into a battle royale or a masacre and ending up places where nobody goes because they are expected to go there and die, wich would affect the diet mechanic badly as people would have to choose between subsisting on random stuff or taking an almost suicidal gamble, also designing the migration spots in a way that favors thr playstyle of the species that use it or hinders their main predators in some way, while also having few places where hunting would be easier, this would encourages stategy and thinking for both parties, with the carnivores having a place where their prey is more abundant but somewhat harder to catch or kill, do they have to think thtough their hunting strategy or get lucky, and the herbivores having a bounty of food and a somewhat advantage of terrain but also having to think how they move about the zone so they don’t stumble into the ambish of carnivores that know for a fact they are there

I like the basic concept of the migration system but I think that it needs to get more worked out.
The game has a big problem with a carnivore overpopulation and the migration system will make it way worse when carnis know where to find herbis.
If I understood it correctly they want to implement a new system with apexes, that you can't play an apex if there are already too many on the server. In my opinion they should implement this with all carnivores.
Migrating should also be more rewarding. If you follow the migration system you should get buffs that help you in fights. F.e. being able to cause more damage.
This is also the problem with nesting. Not many are doing it because it's not rewarding.
More AI would be great too. Not just boars and deers but also small herds of herbis that are following the migration system.

the mechanic is not even in the game yet and i can already see through the cracks , just like diets it doesnt address the one thing that keeps making hotspots happen , sure it makes you grow faster but once you are fully grown where is the reason to continue traveling , people will just continue what they do now which is stick with 1 nutrient and go fight in the hotspot , especially since you can triple down on 1 nutrient there will be no reason at all for carnivores to care about this system and since the vast majority of players are carnivores you will just make herbivore players even more bored then they already are , until the devs actually ad things to do in this game besides constant fighting the hotspot problem will not stop.

On your nesting video coming up, will/could you bring up the fact that it would be so extremely simple to implement a nest invite system that wouldn't ruin immersion?
On the nest interface, there could be a button that says "Global Invite" or something alike that, with a 15-30 minute cooldown to avoid spam. Players would receive a message in a similar style to a group invite, but after accepting it instead it'd prompt you to sleep. To avoid abuse in combat this sleep may have to take a longer time.
Alternatively, a system where living players could see all active nests and request to be hatched could be more robust and less spammy. They'd also be prompted to sleep as well.
I think that the reason legacy's nesting is so much more successful is the ability to become an egg while your still alive. Its very appealing if you get bored of playing a specific creature that's been alive too long. This alone, besides giving nested players buffs/increased growth rate would certainly cause at least some more popularity with this mechanic. It is extremely underused just by the fact that the only people who can be hatched are people who are dead.

What the game needs i my opinion is Seasons! A wet season and a dry season! just like animalia has done, where the water itself rises or drops to nothing depending what season it is! meaning some ponds, rivers and water areas will completely dry out! and that by itself will force you and other players to migrate in order to find water and food. simple and effective

In my opinion the migration system will force players to go directly to their nesting-food provider places and not encourages the exploration of the map or solo players. If this can be disable and enabled it would be interesting to play around with it but in my opinion this will be a net bad system.
If the server capacity could goes up to 200-300 player / instances then there are chances for larger heards of medium-large sized herbivores to encounter which is a reliable food source for carnivores. As a Hypsi player I see less benefit from this and I possibly will only just grab a simple diet and go explore the map. When more species will be implemented the migration could be milder but in my opinion the map should not focus rescurces on few places and keep the whole map devoid of food sources. Also I could see some diet upgrades for herbivores so they could eat more food to not rely only 3-4 food sources.

  • @atriox7221

I believe they will have to greater exaggerate the negatives in regards to resource availability for those who don’t follow migrations that are the prime species and ages to do so while increasing the rewards to migrating.
Similarly I believe they should set a player limit for each species alongside a total player limit for that server, then allow players brought in by nests to exceed that species population capacity by a particular and relatively high percentage.
So the only way to get your friends into the game with you as your species is to nest them in, and the only way to make apexes have more then 3 or so players at a time is the same. For species that can form large herds, they will only be random stragglers and small groups, but through nesting their numbers can even triple to form true migratory herds.
And of course further infusing migration with benefits to nesting so that the migrating groups numbers often go up even with higher levels of predation.
Of course such systems will also balance out the power of apex species among other benefits.

Migration gives many benefits to be honest. Deinosuchus players won't have to keep moving in order to find spots that have other players who may or may not cross nor drink, because there's some point herbivores will take a cross through rivers and what. It is also convenient for other carnivores to hunt down people for food as it's much efficient. However, in this mechanics, there will be a high chance to kos many players, especially those that are same species like stegos or crocs in official servers, in which may cause immense lagging or exploit in the game, though it is not a new case to begin with.

So I have another idea for balancing apexes instead of limiting players. What I propose are carnivores that bridge the mid teir and apex predators with i higher pack limit. A few ideas for said bridge would be sourofaganax, torvosaurus, tarbosaurus, and siats. And give theses bridge Dino’s a larger pack limit. As well as the same thing for herbivores this way it’s more balanced in stuff can still contest with the larger apex’s but still be easier to sustain and grow

There are 2 events which i hope will never happen:
First, i hope that areas with stegosaurus food won't become a fortress of strong defensive herbivores... With too many dinosaurs in the same place effectively complicating the process of hunting
The second issue i could have with the migration is that we don't have many rivers so crocodiles are restricted to very few portions of the map,,, i can't really enjoy traveling if I'll often travel in the same 2 rivers

Migration somehow didn't work out so well for me. Of course, individuals of the species gather in these places. But the map has the ideal areas for this anyway. Let's say the carnivores are close to these, since they can easily hunt down the new/small ones.
But it can also be very real. Maybe then it would be even better if the AI also migrates from one place to another. I'm not saying that always in huge groups, but at least in groups of, say, 2-3 individuals. If you want to hunt them, go ahead, you can also target them.
The other thing - independent of this - is to put some fish in the seas. Pteranodons can only fish in rivers. Crocodiles have an advantage in this respect. Of course, the seas would also need some kind of carnivore, since if the players appeared there (as herbivores), then another area could become a hunting ground. This (since we are talking about an island) would be quite a large undertaking, since the area of the seas is quite large. It would be no small task to implement this. But it would be quite a good thing, the whole area could be used. There are/were ancient/extinct marine reptiles, so the possibilities are there. Path of Titans excels at this. Perhaps they could take an example from them and put a few species into the seas (both herbivores and carnivores).

Why are the devs continuously pushing for updates that don't address the core issue of the game? This is essentially a dinosaur fighting simulator. Sure, there's nesting, and you can explore the map. But nobody actually nests and half the map is plagued with weird cliff drops and laggy areas (like central).
The diet system + this upcoming migration system aren't going to fix the simple fact that this game is fundamentally flawed by design. Growing will still be as much of a tedious pain in the ass, and besides fighting, there's still nothing worthwhile to do. When people say that a dinosaur (like the hypsi or dryo) aren't 'viable', they mean that it's terrible at combat; the only fun thing to do in this game. That's why nobody plays as small tiers.
What they really need to do is focus on the core mechanic of the game that most people are here for; fighting. Both the devs and playerbase alike really need to face the fact that this is much more a brawler game rather than a survival sim.

    • @ender_z4nd3r83

All the dinosaur games are like that

    • @goldheist1816
      @goldheist1816 9 месяцев назад

@@ender_z4nd3r83 yes, you're right. I do agree with you on this. Though I feel like beasts of bermuda is excluded from this, and rather has actually perfected being simultaneously a brawler and survival sim at the same time.
      In summary;
•Growth is easy; fresh spawn to adult takes a reasonable amount of time for each dinosaur. You don't have to collect flowers and sticks just to age ( Like P.o.T) and there's no food restrictions or shitty overcomplicated diet system (Like The isle). For the most part, it's simply pescivore, carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore.
      • I believe there's less dinosaurs to choose from than The Isle Legacy or P.o.T. with its many modded servers, but it truly does does just fine without it. With the variety of playstyles instead of average medium tier carnivore #5 on the roster, it does just fine.
•Theres environmental disasters, shrines, crystals in caves and flowers in the open that provide healing and growth bonuses, and many other things that encourage the player to move around. There's not many hotspots on any of the B.o.B. maps, players are usually populating the whole landscape.
•The combat system in this game is great. Each dinosaur has a skill tree that allows the player to go down a speed, healer/tank, or damage route. Meaning each dinosaur you encounter, even if it's the same species as the last you've met, may have an entirely different fighting style. And of course each dinosaur has an arsenal of unique abilities, some as a given once you spawn in, others obtained by activating it with points in the skill tree.
      • It embraces being a brawler game rather than trying to be some sort of hyper-realistic survival simulator. So although a group of velociraptors killing a Trex is unrealistic, it allows for all creatures, no matter their size tier, to be viable with enough skill. This wouldn't ever happen in real life, but thats the thing; this is a video game, and video games are meant to be entertaining.
All and all, B.o.B. is just a great game. It may not have the level of realism that the isle has, or the amount of creatures that P.o.T. has, but what sets it apart from those two games is that it's actually fun to play and before being a survival sim, it's a well thought out, free for all dinosaur brawler.
