My suggestions who suffered, still suffering from back pain for 10yrs........ 1) Buying a costly comfortable chair with great ergonomics is an investment. Sitting job people will end up spending lakhs if not sitting in a neutral position(my experience). 2) choose a chair when neck, upper, middle, lower back, glutes, thighs, hands feel least pressure while sitting. 3) Even if you buy a great chair, stretching body for 30 mins, breaks in between work is must. Believe me it all starts with less pain.

Metal Base or Fibre base do not make much difference as long a it is built with good quality. And, width of the base is what decides if the chair is stable or not and not the curve of the base etc.
