The difference in character between the engines probably has alot to do with the S58 having a lower static compression ratio and more boost, where the S55 has a higher ratio and a little less boost.
Obviously tuning will change that as well. But it's weird that they both make the same torque figure. They're very similar engines on paper, but one wants you to rev it to the sky (S55) and one just wants you to mash the throttle and shift fast (S58).

Wow! I thought the thumbnail was one of those photoshopped grills, but BMW can actually make a grill proportional to a car. Who knew
I think the looks would be significantly improved if there was a body coloured piece at the bottom of the lower grille, between the two boxes. Kind of how the Camaro sucked when they removed the body colour connector at the front and put it back in due to the backlash from the public.

The only reason I pick this over the older m2 cs....the new S58. What a beast, really excited to see what happens when the tuner's get there hand's on it.
You know you could just get an S58 in a M4, way better looking in my opinion. Same weight, same chassis probably same price with dealer markups

I'm not sold on the looks still. But let's see once I see one in person. Cool pic with Matt and Doug! I had to watch Joe Achilles' video first (same color, but he chose the automatic (he got 3.7 s 0-60) with the M sport seats, which look dope) since he's a Beemer guy (he already has his M3 Touring). Did you guys meet him? He's a cool dude from what I can tell. Def a fun car from these reviews so far! I have a 2020 M2 comp and had a chance to sit in the new M2 recently.
The Outside is fine in person, not the best, not the worst. What bugs me most is that it got so much larger on the outside, while at the same time shrinking on the inside.
And while it wont make a difference to most people, the weight is just absurd... an M2 thats heavier than a Mustang and a Camaro...
M2 CS still the best M2 and possibly best M car ever!
1m had hydraulic steering. Coming from a F87 m2 lci owner. I’d take the feel over bloated specs/weight any day. Doesn’t matter how fast you’re going if you don’t feel connected to the experience. M2 is barely passable as “good” electric steering feel and this new one is worse 😂 m2 CS I’m sure is better but still tails hydraulic by a massive margin

That looks like it was designed by someone who was vaguely aware that BMWs are supposed to have a double grille but had never actually seen a BMW. The grilles on the M3/M4 are obnoxiously large, but at least the cars look like BMWs.

Said the same about BMW going back to a modern classic styling. It very much reminds me of the e30 m3 as well!
I actually prefer the new look of the M2 compared to the previous this car looks more boxy muscular and aggressive and the body reminds me of the E30 M3 while I thought the outgoing M2 was too curvy for my taste.

@@TheMenace2004 no actually I don't like muscle cars yes they are muscular and aggressive looking but they just can't nail down their proportions like the Europeans can. Plus I prefer cars that are agile to cars that are fast and muscle cars are fast but not agile.

The newer BMW designs really make me appreciate the old BMW designs way more. I don't know what they're doing over there but nothing they've released looks good to me in the last many years. I'm sure the car performs well though and the interior looks good. But such a weird combination of shapes.

I honestly like the look of the new M2, especially in Zandvoort Blue. 3800 lbs is absolutely ridiculous for a compact coupe, though.
The M2 has always been an absolute chunker. I remember looking into getting a 135i before I bought my 328 wagon, and I was appalled to find out that the 2-door coupe was heavier than the estate. Literally wtf BMW.
I just bought this car with a manual and absolutely love it. Somehow they hide the weight with fantastic balance and power. Love the manual too. I have read it is not crisp and is rubbery but it compares well to the Mustang GT350 I owned. The GT350 had a heavier more direct shift though. The M2 with rev match makes it about impossible to miss a shift. This car is a rocket. It is comfortable, great stereo and screens are easy to learn and intuitive. What an amazing car for the $$. Extremely happy I found one without a huge dealer mark up.

Unpopular opinion but I like the looks of the M2 it rlly reminds me of a retro arcade racing game, the simplicity is nice
I like it as well. I don't like the new BMW front grill thing but on the M2 it looks somewhat proportional and reasonably sized.
It actually rather good - it just doesn't look like a BMW. Combine the two halves of the kidney grille and you could pass it off as new Dodge or Hyundai.

had a 2017 M2 base, own a 2022 M4 competition xdrive now, considered getting this, and probably going back to an M2 CS once I find one in the perfect spec

@@andysegura7053 definitely worth it, more raw and wild then comp, and better soundtrack. Comp is noticable faster over 100mph, below they are very similar on a straight line. Comp has more tuning potential although stage2 n55 is plenty fast and noticably faster than stock M2 comp.

Yeah, don’t know if I’d ever spend 100k on a BMW. I’ve had a lot of BMWS, they drive good but man are they unreliable. I’d probably go a GT500. I got a ZL1 FBO, E85, Meth. Of all the M cars I’ve owned, NONE of them even hold a candle to that car in any aspect. I like the look of these new M2s though.

The car looks cool as hell to me...looks like a wide body kit from the manufacturer. The boxyness is actually cool. See it in person and I am sure most will like it. If I had the money, I'd get it for sure

You guys were a lot harsher on the new M240i’s looks which has a prettier front (and rear).
We can forgive a lot more when there’s more performance added. Like an Elantra base model is ok kinda plasticy but the N is sick af 😂
Funny how jaded we’ve gotten in just a few years where 450hp doesn’t feel fast enough. Even as a track car, it’s more than enough-particularly for a $60Kish car.
Don’t forget that weight has gone up significantly in the last few years

It's not the power, it's the power : weight and the numbness of the controls which is the problem.
M2 cs was beautiful send and someone just made the front bumbers with huge Legos or smth in this m2
if you consider the Z4 as the older classy guy this M2 is his younger hooligan badass brother ! What makes this more exciting is the bodyworks which resembles more to old school beamers with smaller kidney grills. Really like this
I would take the CT4-V Blackwing over this. This M2 looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down
Once you own a BMW you no longer even give a shit about BMW’s lol. I try with every new release and just can’t figure out what they’re doing
The styling concepts that BMW started to incorporate in the last five years have really made Chris Bangle look like a genius. For all the crap that his designs received (Bangle Butt, Flame Surfacing), these concepts have aged well, and have been copied by many manufacturers. To this day, several sedans by other manufacturers still incorporate the Bangle Butt concepts in the rear design of their cars.
But I think that the last five years of BMW design will not age well, and in the future will be known as BMW’s ‘lost design phase’. Kind of like GM’s boxy designs from the 1980s, which looked awkward then, and just look awkward and aged now.
I think the M2 looks great! Better than the big buck tooth grills on the other models.
