Essentially, these are two entirely different constructions which happen to share a “to”. You have to turn it into a noun with the suffix -ing. It might help to imagine the phrase as having an unspoken “the event/act of” as in “I look forward to [the event/act of] seeing you”. Don’t actually use that version, it sounds very weird in actual English, but it shows how “seeing you” is a noun. The only time I would ever say “look forward to see” is where “look forward” is literal, i.e. point the eyes forward, and “to” means “in order to”, “so that you can”.
Isn't it actually that the subjunctive has two tenses, present and past? So it might be better to clarify that the subjunctive of "to be" in the past tense is "were", rather than saying, after "if, as if etc". Great vids by the way!

Thank you so much 🥰
Hey. I'm looking for someone to practice and improve my English. I wonder if you are interested in?
Antonio, my dear... How could I possibly live without knowing of your existence??? 😱 I teach English for kids in regular school, and we were talking about Second Conditional just last week!!! And when it came to time when I told them that IN THAT CASE we don't use WAS not even for the third person, neither for I, some of them asked me about it. "Why??" And I just couldn't explain, I only said "guys, that's their grammar rules. Let's just have this in mind and not argue, right?" 🤦🏻♀️🤣 You made me long for going to work tomorrow and tell them "hey, everyone! You just won't believe it! THERE IS AN EXPLANATION!" 😍😍😍😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣 Thank you, thank you, thank you sooooo much!!! I had NEVER EVER heard about subjunctive case!!!! And now I do, because of you!!! 😍🥰🙏🏻💗
Niente da fare, da italiana (meridionale e campana) e laureata in inglese, non posso fare a meno di ammirare la chiarezza e la passione con cui insegni. Davvero bravo!
You are really awesome l have understood every single word simply because your language is very clear .Thanks alot
Thank you so much Antonio Parlati, you help everybody for the English language 😊😊
You are a fantastic teacher. Thanks for the knowledge you give to me
You are the greatest of all teachers. I have been learning this language for twenty years. I am not even close to be a perfect English speaker.
BE doesn't really use the subjunctive. So we say " It's important that she buys a house."
Thank you Antonio. I have watched this video 6 times and taken notes. You’re my teacher 😁
Hi, I just found your channel 12 hours ago from the short video's. English is a second language to me. Thanks for pointing out this exception. Great job. Learning a lot from you. Yes, I will watch and review them all from now on!
OMG I'm an English teacher and the last tip you give here (to + gerund), is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a loooottttt!!!!!
It's important to remember all these rules, because they are tricky.
As you said,it can be a verb by form, but is acting like a noun. It's about the rule number three. This class is so important. We have to practice them.
Thanks a lot.
OH A N T O N I O !!!!! Thank you!
My mistake: i was not looking forward to see you….. SO NOW I am looking forward to seeing you again, and soon!
I admire you for you being so theral and light at the same time. CIAO, the Lady from Stockholm
Antonio, sos el mejor profesor del mundo, con vos en un placer aprender. Tus videos generaron en mí la motivación para volver a estudiar inglés. Hoy mismo voy a seguir tu consejo de ver películas con subtítulos en inglés. Grazie mille!!!!!!!! (y algún día seguiré con el italiano, que es la lengua más dulce).
You are great, I'm mexican and I love your videos, I'm learning a lot, thank you so much
I'm Filipino, and I am very bad, at speaking English, writing and also pronunciation. I always watched your video and I loved your blog post. Help me a lot. Thank you and God bless.😍

Hi Antonio,
My name is Steffi. I became a fan the first time I saw one of your videos! I love the way you made learning English fun and seem easy. Just have to state those first.
I used to work as a communication skills trainer for one of the largest telecommunications companies in Canada and wish I had already known of your channel at that time. I would have suggested your channel to my trainees. Our lives would have been a lot easier then. Don’t get me wrong; I love training people. But it’s more challenging to train people who have already acquired bad habits. Your videos would have been of great help!
Keep it up and all the best.
Hi would you help me to learn English ?
The way you explicit the errors and mistakes is really excellent sir. Great video .
Great work thanks I didnt know about the subjunctive one
Antonio I learn a lot from you. God bless you man.
Ti amo Antonio. You are such an amazing teacher. Greetings from Argentina!
Your way of teaching n explaining is super perfect, you make the things simple n easy.
I love this class 👏it was so helpful to me !! ( like always )now I need to practice it a bit to get used to, thank you 😘😘😘😘
Wow, thank you for speaking about the “to + verb”! I have either learn it or heard it before, but… I don’t know, when speaking in English, I really don’t consider it that much since I am learning it… since around 20 years ago… so it was good to hear about this common grammar mistake. Was my comment correct? Now that I reread it again, I have like used it a few times…
Omg you are a gold! I’ve never seen anyone teaches subjunctive and this is what I needed the most!! Love it!
Hi - Gold is one of the uncountable nouns, hence no article used..... 😊
@@christianedoeur9394 thank you so much for the correction ❤️☺️ I am so jealous of beautiful eyebrows 🙃
