Thank you for sharing this basic grammar corrections. I am a Filipino and was fortunate to study in a school using English as a medium of instruction and they can be quite unforgiving to student's with grammatical errors. It's been so long that whenever I encounter people speaking in English and commiting grammatical errors, I usually have doubts whether I was wrong with my grammar and they're right. However, most often than not; I'd think that the system of education have drastically degraded through the years. Coming across your channel in youtube gives me a glimmer of hope that our young generation of today has a fighter chance. To some people, this may be a small issue, however; for me, it's not just the error. It's all about doing it right. Instead of just knowing that after the expression "look forward to" the verb should be in the 'ing' form, I think it's important to also know that 'to' is a preposition, and thus any verb that follows such expressions should be in the 'ing' form. Also, it's helpful to make a comparison with when the particle 'to' does NOT work as preposition but, instead, as an indicator of the infinitive form of a verb, which is the case with expressions such as "need to", "have to", "want to", "like to", "try to", "help to", etc. There's a simple trick to tell the difference. If we use a noun after 'to' and the sentence makes clear sense, then 'to' is working as a preposition, and thus any verb that follows such expression needs to be in the ‘ing’ form. Otherwise, 'to' is an indicator of the infinitive, i.e., I need to go now. They want to play outside. We'll have to work harder. He tried to convince them. In such case, a noun after 'to' won't make proper sense. (-I need to pencil now. They want to jacket outside. We'll have to potato harder. He tried to fishing rod.-) *restrict to* The benefit is restricted to the elderly. (elderly = noun) ∴ This fund is *restricted to assisting* the elderly. *dedicate to* I'll dedicate more time to my studies. (success = noun) ∴ Talent is *key to being* a good singer. *steps to* Important steps to happiness. (happiness = noun) Five *steps to becoming* fluent in a foreign language. Once we understand the difference between 'to' as a preposition and 'to' as indicator of the infinitive form, we shouldn’t have any problems with expressions such as “used to” and “be/get used to”. They used to surf when they lived in Hawaii. (surf = verb) They are used to big waves. (waves = noun) ∴ They *are used to surfing* big waves.

One of the typos was using I'm instead of In in the eat rice question. I forget what the other one was. I was right on with each sentence but it annoyed me that what to me were needed hyphens were not included, something which I see in a lot (why do so many spell it "alot") of reviews. If I had a son who was seven, I would have a seven-year-old son. I do not rent a one bedroom apartment; I rent a one-bedroom apartment. Perfect English! Thanks a lot, Lisa. I'm glad I managed to fix all the 11 grammar mistakes. Anyway, as a non-native speaker (from a Commonwealth country i.e. Malaysia) who speaks English as a second language, I added the British English equivalent to each of the sentences containing the word 'suggest/ed', e.g. 'I suggest that you should not be late any more.'
I enjoyed (yes enjoyed) your lesson. It's so good that I even jotted down word by word painstakingly your whole lecture so as to refer to it as a way to reassure myself in future just in case. It's one of best presented lessons I have watched. You spoke very well (easy to listen and at proper speed) on top of being very clear and systematic. Although I consider myself sometimes as an advanced learner but I still learn from you lesson and understand the reasons behind the mistakes. Thanks.
SO happy to have found you. I am a medical language specialist and with the speech recognition software used, it’s mostly an editing job. My biggest problem is with comma usage, but that’s another discussion. My biggest two pet peeves in current American English are the incorrect uses of “different than,” and “less” rather than “fewer”. The use of less in describing numbers of, well, anything, just drives me nuts. And the fact that no one seems to use “different from” anymore, opting instead for “different than.” So bad! Just me on a Soap Box! Thanks for listening!! 😬

I’d love to if you could correct my grammar sentence especially at its very end following: “There’re certain things you can never be used to no matter how many (countless) times you’ve tried.” Thanks in advance.
Hi! Lisa,Thanks for producing this helpful video. However, seems like there could have been a typo error in Sentence 8. You said ‘In my country,...’,but the first few words that appeared is ‘I’m my country’,which means ‘I am my country’. I realised that when I typed ‘In my country’ the first time, the word ‘In’ was automatically changed to ‘I’m’ and I had to manually retype ‘In’ again. Just in case you didn’t take note of the typo error,so I am giving you feedback here and now. In addition,I would like to point out that there are some differences (esp. spelling of some words) between the UK English Language standards and the US English Language standards. Take care, all. God bless and protect all. Amen.
In my country means that you're going to describe something that occurs in your country when you finish your sentence. In my country, we experience four seasons of the year, or in my country, you are eligible to vote when you are 18 years old.

Another improper language word is: Ain't: I learned that while in High School. Teacher went off on the chalk board and wrote the improper word and put the international symbol that means NO a circle with a diagonal line through the circle and then (Failed) everyone for the day, even though one person did the mistake. Everyone suffered the consequences.

I didn't make any mistake but the word suggest was the hardest part though, it's so confusing that even when we've studied it we can still make mistakes easily. Thank you so much for your wonderful job!
Lisa , you are a sweetheart/teacher. I am amazed on how much I have learned from you after many years of English study. We will never finish learning a language. Thank you. I do appreciate your efforts❤
If I had learnt these from you earlier, I wouldn't have made such mistakes repeatedly in the past, so I suggest practising them more often from now on.
I struggled with suggest, although I spotted the mistake, I couldn't offer some solution (particularly in the first example). 10 or 9/11 is a decent result. Anyway, the example number 8 has a mistake. It should be In, not I'm.
Hey Lucy, there are two mistakes in the first example not one and there are actually eleven common mistakes here not seven. Also, one and two syllable numbers are written as words not figures. I hope this helped you and you can find me in Google.
@@Moamanly She said specifically, not to use "to" after "suggested". Please see the video between 5:10 and 5:20. However, I agree with your use of "to".

Even I couldn’t explain what the subjunctive is. I just use it instinctively. It “sounds right”. But then, I’m a 64 year old native English speaker who studied grammar over 50 years ago. I also studied high school Latin, which involved intensive analysis of grammar. Add to that Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees . . . But the language is changing. Some things that kids say today is like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard. One example: advertisement. Today, people pronounce it “adver-tize-ment”. In my day, we were corrected: “advert-iss-ment”. But hey, Après moi, le déluge. I’m sure that in 500 years time, English will be as different as Shakespeare is to us.
Thank you Lisa. It’s amazing to learn grammar from your lessons! I used one of the grammar books you have recommended and it’s been so helpful for me to learn practical English grammar.
I have been studying grammar rules when i was in school many years ago but because native english speakers are different from the academic speakers i finally adopted the local conversation style.

Thank you so much for this great lesson ! It will help me in my professional life, as well as in my private life. I'm a French speaking person, and I'm working hard for few years to reach the highest level of speaking and writing in English. About this video, I would like to draw your attention on another mistake in the 8th sentence (due certainly only to the speed when typing the sentence). Before the second part of the sentence (which you have corrected), it's written ''I'm my country...'', instead of ''IN my country...'' Best regards. ILunga Dikonda
Lucas Moreira Yes. Lucas. It is a typo and I didn't notice it until it was too late -- "I'll take a one-, two-, three- or four-bedroom, whichever is the ideal for my budget."
Hi Lisa, I love your Accurate English. I make two mistakes on "suggest": (1) I suggested to him buying the other one. (3) I suggested to you not be late anymore.
I used to tease my mother, I'd say "I seen Bill yesterday" and she's immediately say "I saw Bill yesterday!" Then I'd reply, "Oh you seen him too? He comed to the nursing home to see you?" Finally she'd realize what I was doing, smile at me and try to swat me! English can be a fun language…
Pausing the video to say that I found 5 mistakes, the other 6 sentences show mistakes I'm probably making. That's so exciting to think how much I'll be learning in the next minutes of my life. That's the beauty of mistakes.
Fantastic!! 🤩👍🏻 This is exactly what I need from now on. I'm not that far from "fluency", and I understand you perfectly well, but I still make a lot of mistakes like the ones you're talking about here.😉 You explain very well all the points where I’m often hesitating or make mistakes. How are you doing
I'm happy to find you here 2 days ago , your video classes are so good, I don't speak well English but when I listen to you I understand 99% 😍
* speak English well
I was happy ...
Can we practice English together?
Loved your video...I am glad that I made only 2 mistakes. I was not aware of the rules regarding the use of the verb 'to suggest'. Thanks
I found this channel today, I have seen many videos in 3 hours.
Great teacher, happy, I happened to find this English videos.

My favorite teacher..
You're the best.
Gracias gracias and Thank you so much
I enjoyed (yes enjoyed) your lesson.
Thank for refreshing my English. God bless n protect you always.
I love to call it speech "wreck" because it is a wreck. I can type the entire report faster than editing due to all of the mistakes I find.
Hi beautiful 😍😻🥰
How are you doing
That's my problem, not so much using the wrong word, or incorrect spelling, but commas.
Wow!! It's the first time I have watched your videos. This class is really useful and I got impressed by the clear explanation. You're an excellent teacher, moreover your accent is so clear that I can understand you. Thanks a lot, you have a new subscriber.
Glad it was helpful!
my opinion was that I know english grammar very well, now I see a lot of mistakes I do...my maternal language is croatian....thank you very much for videos (sorry if I wrote something wrong) :)
Karlo - you are perfect. No cool person gives a crap about grammar.
In my opinion it is not COOL to speak or write ad English.
Bad English.
@@pietroiannetta8539 My point has been proven.
Thank you for these videos. I learned all of this sixty years ago, but gerunds, participles and subjunctives become grey if not considered actively.

I've been in the US almost 50 yrs, and I just learned NEW things in the language!!! Good video. Thanks.
Learning a language is not an easy task. I can relate to your comment, after 46 years I'm still learning. Daily.
Someone I don't know, suggested your channel in another RUclips channel and I can't thank them enough. Really. I came here out of curiosity and now I can't help watching your videos. I'm learning plenty of things. Thank you so much! 🙏👏☺😍

I’d love to if you could correct my grammar sentence especially at its very end following: “There’re certain things you can never be used to no matter how many (countless) times you’ve tried.” Thanks in advance.

@@upalimudannayake2838 you’re utterly funny
Dear Lisa, I really enjoyed listening to your lessons. Thank you.
I found these videos highly beneficial for conducting my physical and online English classes.
“In my country “,when I heard your saying.

I greatly appreciate this lesson; I could only answer correctly the #7 like: I look forward to "meeting" you, and #8.: "... I am used to getting up early." And thanks for recommending this book: "Understanding and Using English Grammar".
Another improper language word is: Ain't:
I learned that while in High School.
Teacher went off on the chalk board and wrote the improper word and put the international symbol that means NO a circle with a diagonal line through the circle and then (Failed) everyone for the day, even though one person did the mistake. Everyone suffered the consequences.

I work as a teacher too, I became a great English speaker. I'll admit, this woman is an excellent teacher and she knows what she's doing, she knows how to teach, there's no room for doubt!
Hi, I,m 87 years old, I live in Canada, I,m originally from Manchester, & take great pride in my Grammar, & I,m being honest ln saying I got all the answers to the questions or at least one of the alternatives correct, thank you for a very good lesson, it was very informative.
Thank you Leslie! 😄
Hello Leslie. I live in Esbjerg, Denmark although I'm from Burnley. I do hope that you are keeping safe and well during these strange times we are all living in.
I didn't make any mistake but the word suggest was the hardest part though, it's so confusing that even when we've studied it we can still make mistakes easily. Thank you so much for your wonderful job!

11:27 - Thanks for the video. Your lession is always helpful !!
I struggled with suggest, although I spotted the mistake, I couldn't offer some solution (particularly in the first example). 10 or 9/11 is a decent result.
Anyway, the example number 8 has a mistake. It should be In, not I'm.

Awesome teaching
In conditional sentences, please use “Comma”
Thank you, Lisa❤ I'm glad I didn't make any mistakes
Thank you, Lisa, and I'm celebrating myself for having found all the mistakes. Yay!
Hey Lucy, there are two mistakes in the first example not one and there are actually eleven common mistakes here not seven. Also, one and two syllable numbers are written as words not figures. I hope this helped you and you can find me in Google.

Thank you my beauty teacher! If I didn't watch this video, I wouldn't have realized these common English grammar mistakes!
If I hadn’t watched..... I wouldn’t have recognized... or I wouldn’t have realized that these were common English grammar mistakes
Fantastic
I haven't heard another teacher like you .
I love you...
Excellent grammar activity Lisa! My advanced adult students make these same mistakes. I'll recommend your video for homework. Well explained! Bravo!
While I have forgotten the names of these rules, as a grammar Natzi, I knew immediately noticed the grammatical errors. I try to hold back from correcting other bloggers, but not always.
Maybe use spell-check and grammar-check! " Natzi" is spelled Nazi. "I knew immediately noticed..." (Someone check my punctuation, I'm too tired to look it up!) Perhaps you were joking to make a point?
Among so many English lessons, this is one of my favorites and my inspiration . I am also an English teacher and still learning

habits or repeated actions in the past which we don't do in the present.
I like her so much. We keep on learning, unlearning and relearning
Same here. Still learning.
Hi Lisa, that's a magnificent episode and I couldn't made it. I had 8 mistakes 😭😭
Thank you. I learned so much. Even though i'm not a native, simply thinking about all the mistakes i made until now makes me feel embarassed.
Younger native speakers in the US and UK don't know about the subjunctive use. They can't use the past perfect either.
Wow, you are a great student.
Thanks-it's an excellent lesson especially for those children who take English examination as their second language.
You're undeniably the good teacher! We'd like to learn english even more( LIVE)
I have been studying grammar rules when i was in school many years ago but because native english speakers are different from the academic speakers i finally adopted the local conversation style.
That was a great lesson Lisa. Thank you so much.
I fell in love with this channel, I can say it was love at first sight 😁. I've already signed up.
Thanks, you have a beautiful pronunciation. I don't need caption to understand you.
Today, I start seeing your useful video. I'll follow since today and those I could learn.
Thank you so much, you are a really honest and smart teacher.
I totally agree.
Thank you. Yes, it's a typing mistake : (
Great great lesson
It shouldn't there be a hyphen between two bedroom? ("two-bedroom apartment")
Lucas Moreira Yes. Lucas. It is a typo and I didn't notice it until it was too late -- "I'll take a one-, two-, three- or four-bedroom, whichever is the ideal for my budget."
I think the correct form of your question should be: Shouldn't there be a hyphen between "two" and "bedroom"?
Hi Lisa, I love your Accurate English. I make two mistakes on "suggest": (1) I suggested to him buying the other one. (3) I suggested to you not be late anymore.
I used to tease my mother, I'd say "I seen Bill yesterday" and she's immediately say "I saw Bill yesterday!" Then I'd reply, "Oh you seen him too? He comed to the nursing home to see you?" Finally she'd realize what I was doing, smile at me and try to swat me! English can be a fun language…
I'm looking forward to learning accurate English from you, teacher. Thank you for doing this great job.

It's great for me to know that! I'll be more confident, and hopefully avoid a lot from now on, thanks to you! 👌🏻😍
