how do you create damascus steel by only forge welding? damascus IS a crucible steel and needs to be fully liquid . another abs cop out calling forge welding damascus.
@@mobiousenigma Damascus is layered steel
@@garretlarsen5343 check your facts and history... try wootz steel reasearch .. true damascus is a crucible steel not layered forge welded multi carbon content steel
Hey, great work! Also good luck on the EE degree. I know this is unsolicited advice, but you may consider getting a metal bucket for your vermiculite, just to be safe!
@@mobiousenigma "Damascus" is used interchangeably to refer to both crucible pattern steels and forge weld layered pattern steels these days. Most smiths refer to the crucible version as "True Damascus." Both processes accomplish the same end result, with similar patterned look so they accept that both are "damascus."
You can search for - "A widely believed history myth: No, true Damascus steel is not a lost art" - and also read the Wikipedia article.
I have zero intention of getting into this hobby but these videos are so satisfying and fascinating. I’m here for it Jesse! Keep em coming!
I've always been curious, but man the work and labor lol whole days of work and don't even have the shape you desire lol
nobody asked
@@zyomer6855 nobody asked for your opinion either
Agree !!!
It is immensely satisfying to watch a pile of random bars be bent and fused into a work of art.
Wow hearing the "ting" after every slice of the paper when you were testing the sharpness was so satisfying. I want one ahh.
I was going to mention it if no one else had brought it up. I've never seen that before, it almost felt edited in like some old school samurai movie.
Watching this channel, it gave me a NileRed Vibes 🤣
A simple edit, perfect explanation, focus on the stuff that he's making
10/10 🔥
No but why does this make somuch sense
Not to mention the fact that he takes something impossible and then does it.
Jesse Hu = the NileRed of forging!
Or is NileRed the Jesse Hu of chemistry...?
@@WetRatGaming both are experts of their own fields but most probably nilered is older being on youtube
@@primum4852older being💀💀
48 minutes... and enjoyed every minute. Beautiful work 👏
Wtf, I thought it was like 15-20, really lost track of time with this one.
Congrats on your first sponsor, this channel needs to blow up…. You work is immaculate and such attention to detail
96k with 9 videos in such a short time is insane for youtube.
completely disagree. there are gazillion channels like this, why do we need one more doing exactly the same?
The best knife-making channel on youtube.
I’m honored🙏🙏
True!
Could not agree more!
Unfortunately that would be K-royer. My only issue with this knife is you can see where he stretched out the pattern. None of the pattern is the same length/width between the lines towards the blade.
@@gp7110When you make your own cleaver, (LMAO!) you can make sure that the pattern is a perfect grid. He never claimed to be going for that look on his cleaver.
This is easily *THE MOST* beautiful custom cleaver I have ever seen. I have been watching bladesmiths on RUclips for at least the last decade! I love your attention to detail in all of your work that I have seen!
WOW. Just wow. This cleaver is incredible! Believe it or not, this is the first of your videos that I have seen. I must say I agree with others that commented, you have become one of my top channels to watch blade smithing! So talented & smart!
If I Ever Won The Lottery, I Won’t Tell Anybody. But There Will Be Signs.
This knife is master worthy, awesome work. And to be frank, I'm definitely part of that percentage that chuckles at your jokes
I'm honored🙏 Hehe I'm glad my jokes got a chuckle or two :D
you are my favorite channel for knife making this year. It is enjoyable watching the way you work, listening to the voice overs, and quality camera work capturing the things we like to see. The other established channels just have more $$$ to spend on equipment and more time to finish projects on top of decades of experience. Your blades are comparable thanks to all your love, effort, and attention to detail that has progressively gotten better looking at your last few videos. Watching a western bladesmith master make a Katana from backyard refined iron sand, making the scabbard and handle from the same rare woods, and making the best Hamon does not feel as enjoyable as watching you. I know the master is possibly going to do it 100% authentic or 99% without breaking tradition, but with you its fun to see how you do the best with what you have and still exceed even your own expectations and acquired new experience to make a better Enma in 2024.
That cleaver is stunning. Nice work sir.
47:20 This is all the more satisfying after watching the whole knife come together 😌😊
Wow guy. Your skill, patience, and perseverance are seriously impressive. This project is easily top 10 I've seen on RUclips. Great work!
Thank you so much!
The way the oven was lit was both stupid and magnificent at the same time, After lighting it, the expression of fear and enthusiasm says it all 🤣
I loved the final look of deep contemplating and satisfaction in your work as you cleanly cut the paper and set the blade down. It's better than pnc.
I love your vids because you are honest and sincere with your mistakes keep up the great work
bro watching a master at work, no matter what the subject matter< is always entertaining. this video could have been 3 hrs long and id watch it through and through. man youre awsome
Hands down the most beautiful damascus steel blade I've ever seen. Well done!
Just finished watching your 8 time winning streak on FIF with my husband- amazing job Jesse! We were rooting for you the whole way. You have such a gift with bladesmithing and you’re a pleasure to watch. Glad to see you have a channel.
My favorite fellow Arizonian knife maker is back
You and Kyle Royer are hands down the best knife making channels on RUclips. The pattern on this blade is out of this world and can't wait to see the patterns you come up with in the future
Just stumbled upon Jesse Hu's forging videos and I'm seriously inspired to dive into the world of forging myself! Jesse, if you're reading this, you're a true master! Any tips on how to get started? What was your journey like when you first began? Would love to hear your insights and advice!
I just stumbled across your channel watching an artist in Japan create amazing, delicate, museum quality glass art. You were the suggestion for what else to watch and I am thrilled I followed it. This knife is hands down one of the nicest Damascus knives I have seen and I have seen a few (and own a few). I can't wait to scroll through and see what else you've created.
where have you been bro, my favorite knifemaker
I’ve been learning about MFCC’s and Caches💀 All I could think about was knifemaking though!
That's cool man@@jhublades I haven't forged in a month or so I've been so wrapped up with my machining class at school
that fire starter was MAD CRAZY.
OSHA called, I ignored them though
Crafting a $5000 Mosaic Damascus Cleaver: Witness the pinnacle of knife artistry! The meticulous process and attention to detail showcased in this video are truly awe-inspiring. From selecting the finest materials to mastering the intricate Damascus patterning, every aspect of creating this masterpiece is a testament to the craftsman's skill and dedication. Prepare to be amazed by the beauty and functionality of this exceptional cleaver!
That Frank joke was completely necessary for the plot. The finished product is stunning btw. Great Job!
Formidable skills and humble attitude are a good mix. Add brains and humor... you are on a great path to success.
🙏🙏
Sharup level damascus beauty, Will Stelter attention to detail, and an Alec Steele level of risk taking. You sir are clearly very talented and you've more than earned my subscription. Long may your star shine!
So honest and real, you're always trying to improve. Good work bro.
Found your channel just now. And already I'm here to stay. It's so nice to watch a whole build in one video, instead of stretching it out over 15 shorter videos like some other channels do. I get it, that makes more money. But it also makes it so I barely ever see a whole build start to finish. Great video too, and beautiful knife. I'd love to get something like that in my kitchen some day. And just so you know, I laughed at the Frank joke.
And thats why your an 8 time Forgrd in fire champ, such great work
🙏🙏
Congratulations on your first sponsor! Keep up the fantastic work! Your videos are so in-depth and impressive!
Thanks! It was definitely exciting getting my first sponsor, more to come though :D
I can't believe that I just sat and watched a 48 minute RUclips video. Wow. Just Wow... Speechless. Incredible...
Never in my life have a spent a whole 48 minutes glued to my screen for the entirety of a video until now... Great Job sir. Much Respect.
That's gonna be one satisfied client
And this is why Jesse's an 8 time Forged and Fire champion! He's amazing at his craft!
That is beautiful. The care you took with each step was wonderful to see. I hope the client is actually going to use that for it's intended function rather than it being strictly a display piece. It would be a joy to use. I thought my kitchen knives were sharp until I saw that part at the end. I'm not sure a freshly stropped straight razor could do that. I'll just say you probably undercharged pretty seriously.
First time watcher. Impossible not to subscribe.Brilliant finish.
Massive thanks :D
Dude, absolutely everything about that cleaver was incredible. You have an amazing talent. Loved this entire video, keep up the great work 👍
Its a work of art. You're one skilled and talented knife maker. Just incredible work bud. How does one even value such a peice. Such 1 off pieces this good are priceless. This is one of the top 5 best cleavers i've ever seen on YTube hands done. Amazing pattern.
So far this is the best Damascus steel I have ever seen with such a pattern.
The fact that it can be ground so thin and extremely sharp is a huge WOW for me!! ;-)
Wow, absolutely stunning Damascus design. Well done!
You've outdone urself with this one🔥
Holy shet, I just realize that you have been making videos for less than a year, and you are already a bladesmithing god for most of us, keep going with the nice and awesome work man!
As a native of Damascus, I salute you for keeping the link of this amazing craft to the city of my birth alive.
Thank you for a wonderful project! I've seen so many blade makers make western or Japanese knives, it's about time someone did something different. The use of Chinese cleavers has gradually been gaining popularity (for good reason, so practical!) and has encouraged me to use my late grandfather's Taiwanese-made antique cleaver over my usual western chef knife. Great to see fellow Asian Americans in artisan crafts, so keep up the great work 👍
Incredible work, love your videos. That intro was prize worthy as well, super cool :D
Thank you!!! The intro was probably not OSHA approved but it was fun to film :D
That Was Fantabulous ❤ That's an Piece of Art And You have mastered it That Smile on Your after Achieving That pattern Say's it All...Lot Of Patience And Hardwork You Been Put To This Even The Study Of Pattern Allingment..... Amazing Work Brother I'm Now Fan Of Your Achievement ❤
No words needed. Ive seen loads of these videos, but this is just another leve !!! This man has amazing vision.. The most beautiful damascus blade ive ever seen. 👏👏👏👏👏
😮The best processing to record for your flower pattern cleaver knife!Respect for your patience & creativity👍🏻
Stunning work of Art 👍
You have the most incredible patience. And an incredible talent. Probably one of the best knife makers I have ever witnessed!!!
hands down the most beautiful cleaver I have ever seen
Very good knife making skills.very impressive.great videos🎉🎉
Thank you🙏🙏🙏 More to come!
This guy it's savage! Holly fish! 🗿
Hehe thanks!
Absolutely stunning knife build dude! 🤙 When hand sanding, at 400-grit I switch from a metal sanding backer to a piece of cherry wood I use as a sanding stick. It has a slight amount of give and blends the contours of the blade better than the hard metal backer. I haven't seen someone use a leather backer before.
That fireball jutsu was dope!
My first time seeing you work... I'm so impressed! That is a beautiful piece! Thanx for sharing your process! I've subscribed. ✌😎👍
Great job! Looks amazing
Thank you!! I’m also pretty stoked with how it came out :D
Jesse I absolutely adore craftsmanship and this video is absolutely incredible. I love custom kitchen knives, but this cleaver is absolutely insane. The mosaic damascus pattern looks excellent and detailed. You got a new subscriber for sure!
A work of art. My goodness. My wife and I are speechless.
Great work bro 👏
Looks amazing, happy to see another video
You could throw some quarts in the feric chloride and it would allow you to use less of it as you really only need enough to cover the blade
I really thought he was gonna round that handle out more. Beautiful knife. Incredible artisanship.
This thing is beautiful! That handle is amazing that wood is well worth the price! Can't wait to see what you make next!
Awesome work Jesse, can’t wait to see this channel take off 📈🔪💫
Thanks man, I'm excited as well. I'm amazed by how things have been going thus far :D
I am on the same page. This guy is great.
That is one of the most stunning damascus works I've ever seen. You should be very proud.
I have never being so satisfying to sit here and watch the entire 48mins of video, this is amazing work keep it up!!
Amazing content and video content
I love that you have so much care with the knife like you have in the video production
Thanks for the amazing video
❤❤❤❤
Ps: You have to do a tour of you're garage and a video for the upgrades of the machinery 😉
Thank you!!! Glad my care has been noticed😅
I'll see when the next shop tour is appropriate, I've gotten some new stuff but not enough for an entire new shop tour. Maybe in a couple years!
太猛了 我是來自台灣的粉絲關注你很久時間了
This is the first first of yours I've watched (I enjoy watching blade smithing) and I love how you include all the details why you're doing what you're doing and the differences between techniques. Great job, keep it up
Cute Cat 🐈
That is unbelievable. You’re a talented knife craftsman. Best Damascus pattern I’ve seen on here 👌🏻
Dude!! That steel sing was on point!!!! 26:31 Veryvery well done 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏
That was awesome - no mechanical bond with the handle though - makes me nervous - but you did amazing
Notches in the tang, hard wood and good epoxy. Just about as good as rivets but without the risk of wood cracking or touching cold metal.
The MOST satisfying anf Rewarding time during Any Damascus build is when you taking it out of acid.. by Far (in my humble opinion)
Well done good sir!
Just WOW ! one of the best knife builds i have seen on YT !
Thanks!
The most entertaining content on RUclips and I never watched knife videos before! You got me into it!
Also Can you show how you package the knives to present to the client? I would love to see that!
Thanks for the super!!! I appreciate your kind words :) For the packaging, I just use professional padded knife bags to encase the blades and ship them with a bottle of oil. Maybe I can show it in my next video!
Well shot and edited videos that detail craftsmanship of any time is basically an instant sub from me. Excited to go through the backlog and watch all your other vids!
Fantastic to watch my friend, your consist focus and adaptation is a credit. Well done.
It did, indeed seeing this pattern come to life was amazing. I've seen many knife and sword making, each has their own process, but the blade result in this one was incredible. Kudos!
Unreal!! Amazing!!!
Would love to see how you package the knives to give it to the client.
Mesmerizingly beautiful, cleaver!
I appreciate how you narrate your videos to let us know what you are doing and why, thank you!
You make it look so easy…. All the best !
incredible work of art, your explanation of the process is quite easy to understand too
bravo
most beautiful knife i've seen so far. a master in the making.
and the cats are equally beautiful!
The scool you are going will be proud of you. Great video👍. Beautiful blade.
did not notice the length of the video until i finished watching. Honestly this might have been one of the best videos ive seen in awhile, extremely captivating didn't even realize how much time was passing.
Congratulations on the awesome Knife and video
God, If my grandmother were still with us, I would have loved to surprise her with something like this. She always thought it would be really fun to have a functional cleaver that was breathtaking to look at
You're knife builds are amazing works of art.
That was an awesome forge, love the pattern, and the sharpness test at the end was awesome, I could hear the knife singing, great work,
I rewatched that opening fireball over and over.
Immediate like for that intro!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂
Incredible craftsmanship and art
I totally chuckled at your joke. You do amazingly meticulous work. Congratulations on your first sponsor. Well deserved.
That looks stunning. You did an amazing job. It makes me want to get one, even though it is far out of my reach in terms of costs. You also did a good job explaining, which made it very informative.
