I’m so thankful to see you make fruit cake. My Granny made it every year and it was a true labor of love. She cut all her own fruit, chopped her nuts and mixed the batter in a big pink wash pan. We looked forward to it every year and I’d give anything to be back in her kitchen watching her cook. Fruit cake gets a bad rap, but folks just don’t know what they are missing. HI Tammy! We now understand Chris' opening remarks on the video! 🤣 Since we took the fruit cake out of the oven and let it cool (barely!) my crew have been busy with their taste tests! Gosh! Is this fruit cake ever good!! We used the grape juice, too! I was intrigued. Loving the Vol 4 cookbook, too! Thanks so much for another video, y'all!
I am from Northern Alberta Canada. My sister stopped in and my niece and they both said this cake is the best they had ever tasted. They will be making this one too. Take care . It's bed time for me before I eat all my cakes LOL
My sweet daddy loved fruitcake so good! I finally found a recipe that had no batter at all, only fruits (no peel or citron) & nuts &, if I remember correctly, 2-3 cans of sweetened condensed milk. You had to grease your pan AND line it with greased waxed paper because basically everything just melts together from all the sugar. He loved it! Said it was the only one he wanted from then on.
I have my mother’s absolutely fabulous fruitcake recipe and make several fruitcakes most years around the holidays. I actually have the recipe in her own handwriting, which I treasure. This recipe has converted many fruitcake haters and naysayers to fruitcake lovers!
I love good fruitcake. Gives me memories of my uncle. His mom made fruit cake and it was out of this world due to the cake being liberally doused in whiskey!!
@@carolbaughan8768 about a pint of whiskey. Some in the cake and the rest was added to a piece of cheesecloth wrapped around the cake. Added until Christmas Eve. Then ready to cut and enjoy!
My Mum made the most delicious fruit cales and she taught me from an early age. My favourite (but most time consuming) are the ones where the fruit is mixed eith brandy or rum and left to soak for about a month before the cake is made. The fruit mixture uses dultanas, currants, raisins, dates (without that sugary coating), dried apricots, glace cherries, mixed peel, dried figs if liked. The cake is made with butter, dark brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, molasses, flour and the soaked fruits are added to the mix - it's a labour of love mixing it together! It goes into a large cake tin snd baked in a slow oven for about three and a half hours. When cojed, a snall amount of brandy, rum or sherry is poured over the top if the cake every day or so (maybe half a dozen times) and then the cake can be stored till Christmas. It can be made months ahead and is very, very moist and rich. A quicker and easier version is a boiled fruit cake - the fruit, butter, sugar and alcohol or water is put into a large saucepan and boiled till the sugar has dissolved. Its then left to col completely before the flour, eggs and spices are added, along with dome slivered slmonds or roughly choped walnuts (these also go in the other cake too), before baking. This type foesnt last ad long as the first type, but is delicious. Again, alcohol is drizzled over the top fir a few days and its best to leave it for at least a week before cutting. These are both served in small slices ss they are very rich (except my don cuts great doorsteps because he loves fruitcake and traditional Christmss pudding - and fruit mince tarts ...😂). Im Australian but Mum's and Dad's families migrated here from England, do we prefer Emglish fruit cakes etc.
I have my mother's recipe that she used to make. It is handwritten on a piece of ledger paper. LOL I love fruit cake. I can remember my job growing up was cutting up all the candied fruit. I always wanted to cut it right after it was made but we always had to wait till Christmas. I bought me a small Claxton at Walmart, and ate at bite at a time. It was not as good as my mothers but it was really good. I can not remember if mother used brandy or whisky, and my mother did not drink at all. It is still hard at the holidays without my mother. She used to always make a fresh coconut cake and I honor her and in memory, I always make a fresh coconut cake.
Looks fantastic! I'm going to have to try this. For decades my family used a "9&1/2 Minute Fruitcake" recipe. I've never been able to find it listed anywhere. In addition to the usual fruits and nuts, it also used a jar of mincemeat. I don't add too much of the candied citrus peel but do load up on citron, cheries and pineapple. I also wrap it in cheesecloth and drizzle Grande Marnier over it a few times and let it cure for two or three weeks. Love a good fruitcake!!!
I love fruit cake and remember as a little girl my mother making her fruitcake in a huge old wooden bowl. The tins are painted... And made in China I'm sure... I wouldn't bake anything in them and even line them with parchment paper when putting any kind of food item in them.
You can't bake in these tins. Big difference between food safe and oven safe. And have you ever seen anyone else do this. Nope! And why is it anytime you buy cookies, candies or cakes in a tin, there is always some form of paper or plastic lining between the tin and the food.

Thank You
Yummmmmm!!!
I love how you used your hands and went ahead and did it the way you knew was best. No matter what folks might say. After all, you’re the expert and that’s why we watch you. Cake looks like a work of art!!
My grandmother loved fruit cake…I’m going to make this cake this year. It looks so holiday-ish! 🎄 🎅
Your fruitcake looks delicious. I’ve been making mine from scratch for over 45 years. I bake mine on Black Friday, and let it age for a minimum of a week longer if I can stand it 😉. I agree on not adding alcohol to fruitcake. ❤🎄
Very true about using your hands in the bakery. Hands are really the best tools.
Love fruitcake
