Welcome to Blue Ridge Wildlife Center. Through our hospital, we provide care and treatment for injured and orphaned animals, helping them to recover and return to the wild. But our impact goes beyond just these individual animals. Our story began in 2000 when a small group of wildlife rehabilitators came together with a shared passion for helping animals in need. Today, we have grown to become one of the leading wildlife hospitals in the country. But our humble beginnings remind us of the power of a shared vision, and the impact that we can have when we work together towards a common goal.
Every year, we are privileged to care for thousands of animals, representing a breathtaking diversity of species and circumstances. From bald eagles to bluebirds, from foxes to bobcats, we are here for every single one. Our experienced and compassionate veterinary team offers a comprehensive range of medical services, from radiology and surgery to laboratory testing, ensuring that each patient receives the best possible care. It's an honor to be entrusted with the health and well-being of these amazing creatures, and we take that responsibility very seriously.
Our rehabilitation team is committed to ensuring that each and every patient receives the care and attention they need to recover and return to the wild. With dedication and expertise, we provide essential food, enrichment, physical therapy, and shelter to upwards of 200 animals each day, guiding them on their journey to full health and freedom. And when the time comes, we joyfully release these animals back into the wild, where they can thrive as nature intended.
At Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, education is a vital part of our mission. We are passionate about inspiring and empowering people of all ages, and each year we provide education programs for over 4,000 children and adults to help them learn how to protect and preserve our precious natural world. We also have over 100,000 followers on our social media platforms where we raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and the many ways in which we can all make a difference.
As one of only three veterinary teaching hospitals in the state of Virginia, we are committed to training the next generation of wildlife professionals through our internship program. By offering hands-on experience to vets, vet techs, rehabbers, students and recent graduates, we are providing the knowledge and the skills they need to make a real impact in the world of conservation. To date, we have trained over 400 interns and with the passion, commitment and expertise we have given them, we are confident that they will go on to spread our impact beyond the walls of Blue Ridge Wildlife Center for many years to come.
A core component of our mission is our One Health Research where we work with multiple partners to better understand the threat from zoonotic diseases to humans, wildlife, livestock and pets. We are on the front lines of detecting and understanding the spread of such diseases as Avian Influenza, COVID, rabies and tick-borne pathogens.

We receive no government funding but, with your help, we can provide critical care to wildlife in need, promote One Health, and educate the public about the importance of protecting our natural world.
