Glad to hear your reasons for ranking the photos. The shared experience factor and lighting certainly make such a difference. Thank you. They were all great photos.
Is it just me or it just feels so natural to see you both doing more activities and debates together? You are both so decent, knowledgeable, and passionate. I love both styles and video formats. Congratulations for everything you are doing. I'm such a rookie. And jealous😅
Ten really beautifully composed shots. Nigel at his very best! As to ranking - every person will rank differently. Not only that! Five years hence one and the same person will probably change his or her mind and choose and rank completely differently from today.
Really interesting video and Nigel’s points about the viewers personal connection with a location is interesting as the only landscape prints i have sold are locations that have meaning to the person buying the print.
Such a lovely idea, Mads, and what spectacularly beautiful photography, Nigel! Looking forward to the next installment of Nigel's favourites of your wonderful photography, Mads! Keep up your great work and your collaboration going!
The great thing here is how you are celebrating a mates work, thats just beautiful, we all need mates who have our back and love what we do and who we are.
Really like these peer critique videos and would love to see more photographers participating in them. It's all subjective, but the suggestions (even the minor ones) are helpful to learn what photographers with a very critical eye are looking at, especially with others of a similar level of experience and accomplishment.
What a wonderful idea! It gives you both an insight into what other people find most interesting about your photos, and you can continue onwards, with awareness. Look forward to Nigel’s comments on yours, Mads! He’s going to have a much harder choice!
What a great idea Mads. While my thoughts differ from yours on Nigel's top 10, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. I do agree on #1. It is also wonderful that 2 photographers can be at the same place, at the same time and capture completely different images, as happens when a good friend and I go shooting. What a wonderful critique!
I'd rank No 6 first. It's so striking, partly because of the light, but mainly because of the composition which creates such a strong contrast - tiny to epic. You're both master photographers and I think the rest are great too, but this one stands out for me.
It is so fascinating to see how one person sees things so differently compare to another person or photographer.! Much thanks Mad and Nigel for doing this very interesting episode. Can't wait to see how Nigel choose his favs from Mads' portfolio.
Great idea! I think the shared experience factor even influences those of us who have shared your experiences only through your videos. Looking forward to Nigel's video of your photos.
Thank you for this interesting exersice and also for putting the reasoning behind it. I also loved Nigel's response at the end. When there are so many beautiful pictures to choose from, all excellently taken, it is no longer the technical details that makes a picture stand out, but rather those to which you can relate to or that evoke memories or emotions will pop up. So making this list is very personal, thank you for sharing!! And I am looking forward to Nigel's selection on your 5* pictures!
I think doing this video is a fantastic idea as i have a lot of respect for both of you. I think both of you take some phenomenal image's. It was nice to see Nigel in your video. I look forward to seeing Nigel's video. Thanks again Mads for doing this.
It rarely speaks to the saying that art is in the eye of the beholder when listening to how each of you have differing appreciations of the same photo. I’ll be anxious to see Nigel’s selections and your comments.
I loved this video. I great idea. I would like to see Nigel's top 10 of Mads. I agree with Nigel that having experience with a location will lend you to like a photo more.
Really enjoyed this week’s video. Nigel has asked what type of video we like and this plus the locations are my favourite. I do not watch processing videos as I use Capture One mainly plus Affinity, and I don’t even begin to look at any that have titles such as “ the top 5/7/9 tips to improve etc. Looking forward to the return match when he assesses your excellent images.
I also would choose your no 1 as my favourite. It is the closest to your style for me and I do love and prefer your images. But that is just me. You are both brilliant. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic video, Mads! I can understand why your made these photo's your 10 favorites and why Nigel has other favorites. I'm thinking to suggest sometimes a portfolio ranking in my photoclub, for this way of getting feedback is fairly unique. Thanks for sharing this, greating, Bert.
Great approach hear what one pro sees in another’s work and their different tastes. Keep it up. Oh would be very interesting to see your picks of James’ work and vice versa as he has very different portfolio.
We have a phrase in English: “blowing smoke up somebodies arse”… but good work! My favorite of Nigel’s is the photo from Elgol, Isle of Skye. I went to the location last year… but there was no light…
10 great photos and good idea for a vid series.... i do wish you'd either expand or add to this, more of the choosing the 10 over others in the portfolio, ie, more how you chose 1 over another to make the top 10. Critique of why you dimissed the non top 10 would be beneficial to us. A lot of us (im sure) take 10 -20 photos with slightly different framing, subject position, timing, light etc, and find it hard to narrow that down to 1... i think its an easier learning curve to dismiss photos and leave one great one... and help on how to go through the dimsissing process is welcomed. Anyhow - great vid again, and all stunning pics from Nigel!
This prompted me to go pick my top ten from Nigel's portfolio. Granted, I didn't spend a ton of time, I just went with the photos that jumped out at me. I only chose two photos that you included on your list. the Antarctica image and the winter image from the Lake District. It's always interesting to see how people's taste differs.
I love this format! Your jealousy about Nigel’s Antarctica photos made me feel better about my jealousy when I saw the title of your video in Ireland. So jealous that I couldn’t even bring myself to watch it until I just now bought a plane ticket to go back to Ireland myself 😂 My last visit there was before I knew anything about landscape photography and only had a 35mm and 85mm fast prime with me, no tripod, no filters. 😬
Great video, Mads, and interesting to hear your thoughts on Nigel’s work. Nigel has an amazing body of work (please read the whole sentence!!!), and you could probably make a Top-1000 and it would still be a great video! 😉👍
The image from Antartica is definitely a stunning and beautiful image. I also wonder if scarcity has an influence on preferences too and would be interesting to know if Nigel will still feel the same as you are all currently in Antartica, therefore the opportunity to capture some more fantastic images from there exists and as such will the original feelings be as strong after the second adventure has concluded. Either way is is still a wonderful image and hope you all have a great trip and very much enjoying the IG updates
A great selection of Nigel's photos. Thanks for your descriptions. Interesting that Nigel does not agree with some of them. I'll be interested to see which of yours he chooses.
Great idea - I do hope Nigel reciprocates! Just goes to show how subjective preferences in photography are - (although I agree with your number 1 choice!) I would have chosen more of Nigel's woodland work.... 👍
Really great idea! Personally I find #3 a bit unbalanced and find it hard to fathom why it ranked so highly on your list. Nigel has some great photos but that one doesn't cut considering his portfolio. For me the Antarctic shot with the penguin on the iceberg would be my favourite for sure.
As previously mentioned, it would be hard to distinguish your favourite ten from each other's portfolio, such a high standard to begin with, none the less an enjoyable exercise !
I love both Nigel's photos as I follow him too and also love your photos but my point is that the pictures are published after a substantial amount of enhancement are done, not that I've any issue of that. When trying to improve your own composition and photography skills when comparing them with enhanced ones is not realistic or provide a fair comparison and learning points.
Yep they are very personally, like it is about association and identification. I live near the sea and my photos reflects that. I would not have a photo about Mountains, becourse that is so far away from me. They just dont speak to me.
I have recently terminated my subscriptions of Danson & Heaton. I dislike sell outs which become even more obvious when they add camera models to the caption of each video. Thank you Mads for not turning your channel to "Made in Nikon/Sony" channel ❤ As for the photos I pass.
Quite negative here, especially passing on ALL of these photos… 1. It was a pretty big year for Nikon. I don’t blame them for getting in on the action of a camera brand they love. 2. Mads did gear videos when Sony launched their big stuff, which leads to next point… 3. Heaton and Dansen have both exclaimed they wanted to get back to making the “photography lifestyle” videos, and they have, and they are brilliant. Using all these guys as mentors has helped me a lot. Mads is a wonderful teacher. All evoke emotion within the world of photography. Heatons Mongolia series has been a joy. You do you though, but they aren’t “selling out” they have been making content for a while now - I just don’t want another viewer looking at your comment, and without knowledge thinking what you’ve said is the only truth of the matter.
I usually ignore anonymous comments like this one... Different views different opinions. Personally I like to see a code of ethics declaration for each channel. Just to clarify the relation between the channel and the brand/company. Photos? Above the average I would say as I prefer other photographers. That's all.
@@dennismwallentin296100% - preference is huge. Just don’t want someone to assume their bad channels if they don’t know. You’re good, all the best to you!
It would be pretty impossible to rank the work of either of you two! Always spectacular and fun to watch!
Love the crossover, as someone else said it would be great to send each other your “worst” photos or photos that have a lot to critique.
Glad to hear your reasons for ranking the photos. The shared experience factor and lighting certainly make such a difference. Thank you. They were all great photos.

A great exercise. I won't even debate the selections. Anything in Nigel's portfolio is going to be grand. Carry on. 👍🥂
I utterly adored this video can’t wait for Nigel’s choices of Mad’s portfolio (rather him than me!)
What a wonderful idea! It gives you both an insight into what other people find most interesting about your photos, and you can continue onwards, with awareness. Look forward to Nigel’s comments on yours, Mads! He’s going to have a much harder choice!
Maybe the favorite video I have watched. Really shows the personal nature of why a photo is preferred.

Excellent idea Mads, and look forward to Nigel exploring your images along with his comments and yours once he has selected and provided his feedback.

Thanks for sharing Mads and Nigel! It's amazing how subjective photography is in the eyes of each individual!
one of the best videos from my two favorite photographers ….
I think doing this video is a fantastic idea as i have a lot of respect for both of you.

I look forward to seeing Nigel's video.

Fantastic video! I have a lot of respect for Nigel, Mads and James. I’ve learned a ton from them. These “cross critiques” are a great idea!
Enjoyed that. That morning you guys spent on Loughrigg Fell was anbsolute classic and conditions we all dream of.
Difficult to pick a winner, but the top two would definitely be up there. Great idea, and I look forward to seeing Nigel's top 10 pick of your images.
two of my very favorite photographers... I agree !!
I loved this video. I great idea. I would like to see Nigel's top 10 of Mads.
I agree with Nigel that having experience with a location will lend you to like a photo more.
There is something ethereal and otherworldly about Number 4
Excellent idea! Looking forward to the reverse from Nigel.

Really good video Mads and Nigel, one of the most important way to improve our skills and photos is watching your amazing works! Thanks a lot guys!
Lovely idea for a video. I enjoyed this very much. It was interesting to hear what you value in each of the images.
I also would choose your no 1 as my favourite. It is the closest to your style for me and I do love and prefer your images. But that is just me. You are both brilliant. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is a really useful idea. Please keep presenting it occasionally.

Great idea for a video. I too would choose your number one pick as my favourite of the ten.
Very nice fotos and interresting Mads how people see things with different eyes. Thanks for sharing.
Number 1 was the January picture on Nigel's calendar this year.
Great idea for a video Mads, I was glued to this one 👍
Great approach hear what one pro sees in another’s work and their different tastes. Keep it up. Oh would be very interesting to see your picks of James’ work and vice versa as he has very different portfolio.
I agree with Mads #1. I would love to have that hanging in my home. Art is so very personal.
Great to see both of you In the same video. Such a great idea. Gives a sense of belonging to a family :-)
Can't wait for the sequel

I have always loved number 7. I love the whole composition. I think my second is the one from antartica with the penguin !

The one from Gasadlur (Faroer) with the wave crashing into the cliffs should have been in there imo. Hopefully part II follows this video.
Great video. Nigel has taken some cracking photos 👍

The one thing that comes back in the photographs is atmosphere.

I'm the first viewer I guess 😮
Where exactly is the line between an island and a sea stack? They're both lumps of earth coming out of the sea...
Love to see critics of Nigels WORST images, by other photographers. He has a lot of failed ones that he brags and suger coats it 😂
