Hi, I noticed that you mention motion sickness a few times - I wanted to warn you of one of the most common mistakes new VR users make. Trying to force yourself through motion sickness is very, very bad and can lead to your brain associating VR with feeling sick. This makes it very hard to adapt to VR in the long term. I actually have a friend who can't play VR because he tried to brute force it like that, and he now gets motion sick almost immediately after putting on a VR headset. What you want to do, is stop playing VR immediately after you begin feeling motion sick and let your body recuperate by itself or with the help of some ginger. You also want to play regularly when possible for a few weeks, to build up your tolerance to the disorienting nature of VR. Eventually you'll find that you don't really get motion sick anymore. Other than that, great video! Absolutely love seeing people get into VR for the first time, it always puts a massive smile on my face.
That's what I did. Every time I felt sick I would just shut off the system and play some desktop flatscreen games (Or other things that aren't in vr) until I felt better and after a few months I can have my whole view be shaken around, be thrown around and just experiencing disorienting motions with little to no sickness
People really underestimate this headset. My brother begged for one and got one and it is the most mind-blowing thing when you put it on for the first time. Nothing can describe it.
I'd highly recommend playing Blade & Sorcery for some incredible weapon physics (though it's a bit gruesome, so maybe the youtube algorithm won't like it)
I get less motion sick with the HTC Vive and Valve index. The one to one tracking is tighter and that helps with motion sickness quite a bit. Glad you had fun in VR.
Okay, I dont know if it was on purpose, but that call out to Nick Zametti was fantastic, if thats what it was. Like, Alec goes to make an arrow shaft, and says "and we put it on the lathe; happy days". And I'm like lololol NICK YOU WATCHING? (Just because Nick Zametti has a channel where he makes lots of crazy things on his lathe, and happy days is one of his phrases, for any who dont know.) :P
A township tale, so far has been the best blacksmithing game I've found in vr, doesn't hurt that it's free either, as long as you don't mind playing on someone else's world, but you can pay $10 for their subscription service one time, make a server and then cancel the subscription and it lets you keep the server, just for having subscribed at some point, there are other things you get with the sub too, just none that are very worth it, unless you value cosmetics, which change monthly and are just clothing & maybe a few haircuts.
there is another game called fantasy smith vr that has (in my opinion) one of the best blacksmithing systems ive seen in a game. the metal flattens and spreads wherever you hit, so you can draw it out into various shapes. the better/more precise you are, the better the weapons will look.
You guys know you don't need the wire right? You can get the PC Link to work over 5 GHz Wi-Fi. And with the elite strap, you can get double the battery life (plus a counter weight, to keep the headset well balanced on your head). This was awesome, btw. I love that VR is exploding right now.
Hey here's a fun idea! Make a video where you follow the process to make something like a sword or arrow head or something in a VR game, then make the same sword in real life trying to follow the VR game as closely as possible.
if you have any more meteorite damascus and makume gane, I would love to see the results of making damascus out of those, when you get a shop you can work in again. I imagine it would make a beautiful metal, and an amazing knife.
If you're interested in doing more VR stuff, as a fellow glasses wearer, I recommend getting some prescriptions lenses for the headset rather than jamming it on over your glasses. The ones I tried dramatically cut down the level of face sweat and motion sickness I was feeling.
I don't wear glasses but was gonna say the same thing! Also, glasses may scratch some vr headet's lenses and leave permanent markings, so you gotta be careful!
As a avid Vr user for the last couple years, the more you use it, the less motion sickness you have, it takes on average about 4 hours a day for two weeks to work through it. Some people are lucky and don't experience it at all, others take a little longer.
Valve index controls are so much better and I rarely get sick. I find warping around areas is better than using the stick to move and run when you run out of actual walking space. If I play a shooter I get sick lol
that's what I was wondering, he's being kicked out of the shop? I mean he was only staying there because he's trying to get back to his business in montana, but we're not letting anyone that isn't a citizen back in apparantly?
I absolutely love VR. Will have to check these games out. Should use Oculus Air Link or Virtual Desktop instead of using the USB cable to connect to the gaming PC though, much better wireless!
Yep, it took about 2 weeks for me to not get sick anymore even if I was in there for 2 hours straight. At first I could only do about 15 minutes before feeling really off.
Hey brother I just got me one of those last week. If you want to help get rid of some of that nausea, go into the settings and turn the refresh rate up. It might use up the battery quicker, but it's a better experience.
@@kevreeduk222 yes it definitely is. Even though the cable can charge the device. While it's running it uses more energy than the power cable can provide. Normally the only reason you use the Oculus with a cable is because it's running to a beefy computer that's rendering the graphics and sending it out to the Quest. @@DH-xw6jp oh im sure he is, that guy is busy as anybody ive ever seen with his online store and all of the collaborations. If he is, hes deserves it and hes earned it.
Since this is a vr video and Alec gets sick and dizzy (and so do i when i use the vr headset). I have to ask a question. Does the sickness/dizzy disappear when you use it more? I'm fine playing a game for an hour as long as the character doesn't walk. But when i play, let's say skyrim, i get sick in a few seconds. I'm hoping the sickness decreases as you play it more. Or some sort of ritual that makes it a bit better.
So you will develop an increased resilience against VR Sickness, however you brought out a big element of it in your comment, how locomotion systems and their implementation in different games will affect how easily you get sick. Forced locomotion (where your character is moved automatically via physics, a force, or a control system like joysticks) will get you sick faster than anything else. There are various ways to solve that, but by far the easiest and best is just to avoid forced locomotion, and instead use something else like a grab & pull system (gorn) or teleport controls. Following that, the lower your field of view is, the less motion sick you will get, which is why many games will vignette your vision while moving. Finally, another big one is framerate, if a game isn't running at 90+FPS, your brain doesnt like the lack of smoothness in your motion and will also get you more sick. Source: Doing a master's of human computer interaction, doing my thesis on vr
Yep. It's like getting your sea legs, it's training your inner ear muscles. Look at comfort settings the game offers, sounds like you need to use teleportation instead of smooth walking. If you get bad motion sickness, stop immediately and go have something to eat or drink with a lot a ginger in it. Don't go back into VR until you're feeling 100% again.

It is of course recommended that you only use the headset for 10 to 20 minutes at a time until you train your senses how to cope with the VR input. Gradually increase your immersion time as your tolerance and balance increase.
