- Dodge claims it’s 797-horsepower 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye can post a 10.8-second quarter-mile time, but the only way to find out for sure was to test the car (and the claim) ourselves. Watch the video to see if we can prove it.

Matador Hernandez I agree as it as designed after the 1970 model year Mopars and looks great, although a lot of people don't seem to like it for some reason but think that they will get used to it. I like the Hood on the demon a little better but think that this looks great as well, either way Mopar is rocking it these days and is blacktop King

I'd say other way around. Dodge is giving up on the platform and just slamming it down the strip. Forget design to fit more tire for aero. Nah stick on fender flares from the jeep. The platform has been the same since it came out. It's not even trying to mess with the formula as it just throws more power at a heavy pig.

10 second 1/4 mile, 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and weighing over 4k! Just plain awesome! This is the first editor I have seen that actually knows how to drag race a car. No bull crap paddle shifts or ect (he let the car do the shifting and he set the parameters up correctly). Heck, he even beat the manufacturers 0-60 time! Way to go big guy!

Awesome that the RedEye can do 10.88 with Street Tires. My best time in my Charger Hellcat was 11.88 with the Factory Street Tires. Imagine what both can do with Drag Radials.

My old 2016 Hellcat Challenger A-8 ran 11.2's at 126 mph. Next year i plan on racing my new 2019 Redeye. After i get more break in miles on her.

that 1/4 time is borderline insane for a factory car at its pricepoint. I haven't really been crazy about the challenger, but boy this is swaying me.

What an excellent video! I believe that you are probably one of the only people that went through the settings and how to use some of the features like line lock so that we could actually see it clearly.

Dodge has always killed it in the Musclecar segment.........The Muscle car era started the day the 426 hemi started production and ended the day dodge stopped producing it.

If you look at the timeslip and consider the conditions, it’s hard to imagine doing better.
@@christophermorales1509 not hard to imagine at all....steeper gear will get it into the powerband sooner at speed so it should help reflect that in the ET and trap speed. lots more practice runs to nail the launch coupled with the gearing, 2 tenths or more better is very possible!
He already nailed the launch and jumped into the power band. He went 1.65 on normal radials. And this was in 40 degrees.

@540 MUDSTAIN yeah I think weight reduction is one of the best mods speaking I have a srt6 that can run high 11s just because it weighs 2950lbs but I modded it to have 470hp plan on 392 swapping whenever the motor gives up ( probably in 20 years because I've never had a mopar engine fail on me well I was always taught to take care of my car so basic stuff like oil changing when it needs changed and lucas fuel injection cleaner every 6 months don't let it run on 1/2 or 1/4 tank and you keep you engine pampered and she will treat you nice that's what I was taught )
It was a prepped track. I'm pretty sure they don't test on prepped tracks when they measure standard 0-60s.

I was driving my C7 Zo6 one day at 3am. Empty interstate and came upon a redeye just minding his own business.
I blipped the throttle a few times and took off.
I was going around a sweeper and went as fast as I felt comfortable. Maybe I could go faster idk. When I looked back at about 120mph the Redeye was like 3 feet from my rear bumper!
I thought yeah, fat heavy redeye what can he do...with a good driver in a Redeye you get over confident and cocky then find out.
I wound up buying a Redeye and miss the vette's great gas mileage and more but not the terrible 8spd auto tranny in the C7Z.
The best plan is to have a Redeye AND a Vette!

That's about right for its time... since the demon is naturally a 10.4 car with its factory tires ...this car running a 10.8 with just a few less HP lines up...nice job Dodge!

Yeah, regular hellcat gives you 90 percent of the red eye for 10 grand less. You could get a lot of great mods for 10 grand. Red eye is still a nice car though

I luv the look of this car and am truly impressed with what Dodge is bringing to the table...especially for drag racers. This car will go much quicker stock, my guess is 10.6s or maybe a little quicker on the factory tire. My stock ZL1 has run a bunch of 11.0s, and a 10.9 once. There's no way I'm even in the same league as the Redeye. It would definitely be on my list of must have cars.
126mph trap speed is kind of slow for a near 800hp, automatic drag car... Back in the mid 2000s the C6 Z06 trapped 124mph straight out of the factory on street tires, manual transmission with long ass gears and 505hp. I don't get it... Why won't Dodge make a light factory drag car? What's the point of just beefing up a Challenger that weighs almost as much as a SUV if you want to make a drag car? The modern Challenger is even heavier than the original 1970s Challenger...

A lot of the weight has to do with all the safety nannies built in. All the cars are noticeably heavy (as far as on paper such as magazine articles) lately. Some manufacturers have done a good job hiding the weight, at least from watching numerous videos of people testing new cars stating. I guess the tradeoff is being safer in accidents, with less serious injuries. But I have been thinking this for years; why are most mainstream cars such elephants now--both in power AND weight? As far as trap speeds go; my uneducated guess figures it has to do with good 'ol fashion gearing--the 'Vette example you gave would have been geared to go fast at top speed, i.e. burning up the autobahn. This car is geared for quarter mile, but also happens to knock on 200 mph probably due to the power it has, not because it was meant to be a 'Vette.
The curb weight of that Z06 was around 3150lbs. (+ / -). The curb weight of this car is around 4550lbs. (+ / -). Dodge made a street legal, factory drag car, it's called the Demon and customers have run 9s at nearly 140. That car weighed around 4200lbs. (+ / -). The Challenger is built on a L platform, "L" stands for large. The Mustang and Camaro are built on mid-sized platforms. Another factor to consider, crash standards are much stricter now than they were a decade ago. In general, all cars are getting heavier. Another factor, the Challenger has a grip on a small niche market, large coupe with some practicality - large trunk and backseat, relatively speaking. Challenger has outsold the Mustang in the last two months. It may outsell the Camaro for the calendar year 2018. The Challenger doesn't pretend to be something it's not, a track car. It is a grand touring car or a street-strip car. It does that very well. The Mustang and Camaro are the ones struggling, sales wise, right now, not the Challenger.

@@dougkreutz7701 Are you trying to say the Dodge Challenger is made from better materials? 😂 Dodge Challenger: Outdated Mercedes steel chassis that's prone to rust, cheap ass steel body that's prone to rust, blowing differentials etc. it's nothing but a heavy rust bucket. Meanwhile C6 Z06: all aluminium chassis, carbon fiber fenders, glass fiber body (which is a good thing), magnesium roof, forged titanium rods etc.

Side note: Pirelli P Zeros are extremely overrated, if you do get one of these beasts (or even other SRT models) you should replace them as you will go through them quick! Super soft and really aren't as cracked up as they're made out to be. That is coming from personal experience and experiences of buddies and other car club members. Just my opinion!

Funny thing is Motortrend did a road course with a hellcat against ZL1, every time the hellcat beat the ZL1, they could not get the ZL1 to match its time
While normally not a great Dodge fan the Demon and Hellcat Redeye have changed my view of American sports cars: no lame & ugly ducklings, but mean racers built for the track. Great engineering too - hats off to Dodge !

No the power Chiller does not work that way, basically the AC unit is directed into the intake of the supercharger and drops Temps up to 40 degrees. I think that is excellent engineering and pretty cool that they thought of using the AC that way
I wish manufacturers would do something like this with most any car--years of living in the desert southwest where the temps top 115 F for weeks in a row, really takes a toll on cars. Anything that could help would be good in my opinion.

It should go over 130 mph and easily go 10.3 on drag radials.The mph you ran is really low for a red eye.We have a 2017 hellcat challenger here in Montreal at Napierville dragway that ran a 10.54 bone stock on drag radials @129.54 mph.Red eye should be much faster and trap higher given the extra 80 h.p.

If I was behind the wheel, it would be 10.68. Driver weight matters just as much as car weight. I’m 152lbs. Perfect weight for racing and precisely why I keep my weight down.
Running in 40 degree temps and pulling a 1.65 60ft on normal street tires. Don’t expect more from this car stock. Your results may vary.

I'm generally not a huge Mopar fan, but to dislike this car is unamerican. That's why I bought a Hellcat years ago. Might be time to trade up, waiting to see what the new mid engine Corvette ZR1 or Z06 will do.
