We’re going to Big Bend in a couple of weeks ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSt0aBrzyS1nxONvwm1e0u7ZDFD_eypAO so I bought these to use during the hikes, didn’t want to miss anything. As you can see by the photos I tested the phone adapter by taking a phone of a power pole on the next block and you can see the results. It took a couple of minutes to line the phone camera up to the eye piece, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but once it was longed up it stayed in place without any issues. So far I’m impressed with the feel and the weight, the neck strap is wide and soft so it feels good on my neck. I look forward to using it with my friend and grandson in Big Bend!

I have the Vortex Diamondback 10x28 binoculars. They run about $150 and I really like them. They light and compact which makes them great for hunting, plus they helped me spot a lot of deer this year. One of those deer was over 500 yards away, laying down. So they do work. Are they as good as a $1,000 pair of binoculars? No. But then I don't need a $1,000 pair of binoculars.

Enjoy your reviews guys. I looked thru half a dozen binocs at Academy couple years ago, and was really impressed with the optics in the Redfield Rebel. It listed for about 159 bucks, but they ran a half price sale and I got them for $85. For the price, their clarity is amazing. This was my third season using them and still have no desire to replace them. Not too heavy and good low light image. Keep the interesting reviews and humor coming.

I had the same experience.went through and tested all the binoculars at Sportsman's Warehouse. The Redfield Rebels priced at $150.00 were almost as bright and clear as the $300.00 bins and noticeably better than any pair there from 200+ on down. Granted not everything was represented but a fair amount of major names were there but the point is they are definitely a great pair of binoculars for the money and worth a look.

I have found Burris Fullfield binoculars to be decent for the price. We hunt in the rain a lot up here in the PNW and they come with good caps to keep the weather out and they are clear for the price. I have Nikons that are much clearer and transmit light better but their caps are garbage and the lenses are full of water in about 10 minutes. My go to’s are Leupold 12x50 but they are not much use in the timber. I just started using a harness this last season that protects my nocs from the weather and I will never go back. A review on harnesses would be pretty handy for those of us that were late to the harness game.

Thanks for the great reviews. I really like the reviews like this one, where your comparing things your average hunter would actually be looking to buy. Really down to earth and I appreciate it. I do have a couple thoughts to add where the Nikon bino's are concerned. I don't own a pair, but I did consider them, but ultimately did not buy them because of their size.
The Nikon's are Porro prisms, everything else on the table is a roof prism. In general, Porro prisms have greater light transmission because the light coming into the objective lens is refracted less then roof prisms. A basic and oversimplified summary of Roof vs Porro prisms is that if you have exactly 100 dollars to spend, Porro prism bino's will give you greater optical quality, and greater light transmission, then a roof prism in the same price range. If you want roof prisms to be equal to, or greater then porro prisms, you're going to have to spend more money. This makes the greatest difference in low light conditions. Generally speaking, if you look through a 100 dollar porro, and 100 dollar roof at the butt crack of dawn, Porro prisms will have greater light transmission in grey light. The trade off is, roof prisms are lighter and take up less real estate on your chest.
Back to the Nikon's, I was in sportsman's comparing the Nikon 10x42 porro prisms to other roof prisms around the same price range, and the image with the Nikon's was noticeably brighter. Aside from that, I think I can glass longer with a set of porro's. They are just easier on my eyes. However, I did not buy the Nikon's, or any other set of porro's, because , well, good luck finding an affordable bino case that is big enough to fit a set of porro prisms. In terms of binocular harnesses with a case to house your bino's so their not flapping in the breeze, 99% of them are sized for roof prisms. Aside from that, at 45, I've jumped on the ounces = pounds = pain bandwagon, and have gone with roofs. I used to use 10X50 porro prisms I bought of Ebay for 30 bucks. They work GREAT at dawn/dusk, sharp image and i could glass for hours, but I hate lugging them around all day. Currently using a set of Bushnell Trophy 10X42's I got from some 3rd party vender on amazon for 70 dollars, normally around 100-150. Not my favorite, but their an improvement over what I was using in terms of weight, and the optical quality is almost as good as my 10x50 porro's. I want to switch to some Vortex Diamondbacks because of the warranty, and it has to be a marked improvement over the bushnells i'm using. Anyway, thanks for the headsup on the crossfire, I did briefly consider them, but I'm tired of budget optics. As the saying goes, Buy once, cry once - at least up to a point.

Leupold BX2 10x40’s are outstanding. I just went to Bozeman, went thru Yellowstone for 2 days and used Vortex Hd 10x42’s which are also excellent. The clarity is remarkable. But when I returned I bought the Leupold’s and they as well have a lifetime warranty as well as being on sale at Cabelas for $209. The sharpness is astoundingly good, I believe better than the Vortex HD’s. I bowhunt for elk and will be very happy with these out west.

Good info in this vid.. But I disagree with your thoughts on the Bushnells. Myself and my partner (who has 50+ yrs hunting) just finished a 2 week moose hunting trip with these binos, We found them great! Glassed moose at 3-5 km over open bogs, valleys and hills, no trouble. They fit nice, the focus rarely needed adjustment and held position well, they were very clear, compact and robust and have a nice comfortable neck strap. These were the 8x42's from costco btw.. We both find the stronger 10x50's hard on the eyes after glassing most of the day.. Anyhow, keep up the great content guys! New fav channel for sure.

Can you do a direct comparison between the Vortex Diamondback HD 10x42 and the Leupold BX-2? They’re a significant step up from the Crossfires and in the same price range as the BX-2 so I’m curious which one “wins”

    • @themanfromoregon6047
      @themanfromoregon6047 3 года назад +9

So I just recently got into binoculars and wanted this exact same comparison. It's been a year so I'm assuming you've already done the research you needed to but I really felt there wasn't that much information out there that was necessary to decide between these two binoculars without a decent comparison. So I ended up buying them both myself. I have the diamondback 10x42 HD and the non HD Alpine bx2 10x42 binoculars. I really wanted to prefer the alpine's. I'm originally from Oregon and I enjoy Leupold products. They are sexy looking binoculars. I think for the price point they are the best looking and even though very similar to the dimensions of the Diamondbacks the color and the overall look just feels so professional grade. I had the Diamondbacks for about a week before I tried the alpine's. I had heard that the alpine's had better corner to corner sharpness but my personal pair was not as sharp in the center as the vortex. I think the biggest wins for the alpines were 1) better flair resistance. There were certain situations where I felt like shooting into the shadows I had better contrast and less flair from the alpine's. That was the number one thing that I preferred. However, the vortex felt sharper dead center in every comparison that I tried. They also had less chromatic aberration. Side by side there were often times where vortex would have very mild red fringing in high contrast areas but Leupold would have severe purple fringing. This might have been corrected in the HD versions but not in the non-hd versions. The number one problem I had with the leupold optics was the focus knob. The focus knob on the Diamondbacks feels amazing for a consumer grade binocular. It's very smooth and I can snap into focus very quickly. The leupood focusing however was a tougher press and it didn't feel as even. Often I had to do a lot of back and forth to get exactly where I thought optimum sharpness was and as I stated it still didn't feel as sharp as the Diamondbacks. If I had to choose specifically based on flare resistance and good looks alone I would choose the alpine's, but for center sharpness, a smooth focus experience, and also what appeared to be ever so slightly more brightness, I would go Diamondbacks all day. Honestly I think that was the biggest fly in this video. There was no reason to compare the crossfires when the Diamondbacks are closer to the price of the alpine's and are a better binocular.

Hi guys, if you had to say how much better the Leupolds are compared to the Carson's, would you say they are twice as good..?
Reason I ask is that in Australia, the Leupold BX-2 Alpine is $447 and the Carson BAK4 is $191....!

@@510tuber True and false. I was in the Marines and been in the defense industry for a long time now.
Military grade means the lowest bidder that meets contract requirements.
And those contract requirements have very strict specifications.
Such as: environmental requirements - waterproof, dust proof, shock proof, UV proof, surface durability, then there's dimensions and weight, shelf life, duty cycles, and much more.
Then there's manufacturing requirements for that contract such as: environmental controls during manufacturing for humidity, temperature, ESD, FOD, and quality inspections throughout the production stages.
All USA made materials, sources, and assembly work.
      ITAR and Export controls.
The ability to provide (x) amount of product within the required timeframe.
The ability to handle warranty reworks and (god forbid) recalls.
So a military grade product (a real one and not some made up marketing BS) is usually good to go.
The fake "military grade" marketing BS is what has given that term a bad reputation over the years.

how they perform in low light for me and the clarity is utmost importance for hunting. Leupold doesn't stand behind their bino's like thier gold ring rifle scopes. Pleanty of light any cheaper bino's will do. Vortex vipers are minimum 500 bucks, the diamondback and crossfire is below the viper. The Viper and up objective lenses are coated to prevent light from being deflected off the lense for a better transmission in the prism inside the binocular.

Yes I know you evaluate binoculars with your own opinion. All I can add to that is for you to check out the Pentax line of binoculars.
I have been using the older type, 7x50, 7x50 Gold lens, and the very big 9x63 and love them. One older pair has a gold coating which I hate now that I been able to compare them to my "better" clear binocs. Unless you are reporting on tiny binocs, please don't go any less than their larger 42 or 43mm objective lens. Sadly, Pentax doesn't make any new 7x50 binocs anymore.
For the price, I feel that Pentax optics are 2nd to none. You want to go high end, look into their Z - ED series. Since I can't afford that high priced stuff, the "lesser" priced is much more in my price range. Thanks for listening to me.
