Seven of us spent Easter week 1969 there. We were all on our own and in HS on Long Island. We stayed at Antonio's in one of the cabins, $15/night split seven ways. Kahuna picked us up in SJ in his black '62 Impala and drove us out before the highway was built, boards stacked to the sky. Coast road a lot of the way with crazy waves around almost every turn. He drove us over to Jobos twice. The first time was the biggest I have ever seen it (and I've made thirty plus trips since then)...double overhead peaks off the rock and nobody out but Pistol Pete and a friend of his. We didn't surf Maria's that trip, a lot of Domes, Sandy Beach and Rivermouth. Saturday night a motorcycle crew had a party at the restaurant at the bottom of the hill (long gone). They were out from SJ with their girls. We got drunk with them on flaming angels and beer. So primitive in those days that Punta Higuero had no running water for three days. Great times.
HI GIBBY just found this vid your trip in 69 was similar to my 68 one for the WORLD SURF CHAMPS I went there with the AUSSIE CREW lots of them passed now so sad please send a reply if you get this CHEERS TERRY HA HA
This fooled me. I thought I was looking at Rincon near Santa Barbara, California. All the way though the video I was thinking, damn, that's awfully big surf for Rincon. I don't think I've ever seen it that big. Then I realized what PR stands for.
Had all the winters from '66-75 Fred Rush[RIP], Bobbi Morales, Bob and Sunshine with the Eye of God cross, Castro taxista, Dogman[live],GTO bar[pizza], Tiltin' Hilton,Alta Baja Concert
Mi rincon for life look at those waves i was in there 3 times never will take that challenge again but to see others surf is fun i almost broke my neck n hip surfing haha im alive but it real nice town where moms roots come from n beauty ocean n etc countryside
