- Last night, the world premiere of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes took place at the iconic Chinese Theater in Los Angeles California, and as expected, once the movie ended, the first reactions from critics and fans in attendance were shared online.
Reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with audience members praising the cast and characters, especially Proximus Caesar as the villain, as well as the story, emotional depth, and of course the visuals. I’m here to take a look at what everybody had to say!

In the words of Proximius Caesar. YEEESSS!!!
Also "WHAT A WONDERFUL DAYYYY""
That “Wonderful Day” quote is 🔥
“The words of Caesar are twisted 4 personal gain”
I really love the idea that history is ‘his-story’
I’m most excited to see how this future accounts the past.
Remember when blue eyes had an altercation with a bear in dawn? Now that there are zebras I hope we see lions or other predators since zoo animals have escaped and seemingly flourished.
Another cool concept is primitive baboons and mandrills used as hunting dogs for the apes
That would be awesome…
It would give this movie a real "I Am Legend" feel, so I hope so too. It wouldn't surprise me if the apes have domesticated elephants.
@@amorojaz27 Yeahh, good idea with the elephants!
Avatar The Way of Water had very similar first reactions. I am hopeful.
I saw it at an advance preview yesterday in Sydney. It does take a while for the set up of the new characters and story but be patient. OG Apes fans will recognise some nods to the original movie - especially in the score. It very much feels like the set up for a new saga - as many questions are raised. 🐵👍
As a fellow person living in Sydney, how do you even get invited to these advanced previews ?
My Hope is that Proximus Caesar Survives this movie and is the over arching villain for the whole trilogy, from what it sounds like he’s the best villain in the Apes Franchise so far!!!
I hope they don't kill him off like they did with Koba in the second film
Why must there be a specific villain in this series? That's cheap, cookie cutter, cheesy comic book crap . Like Star wars.
@@BobJenkins-ez1jl how is that cookie cutter? And cheap rarely any trilogy does that
@@user-oe2tb9pu1o cheap, as in one dimensional, and on a childish level. Any bad guy that only serves the purpose of being mean for the sake of being mean. No real depth or motivation in a real world aspect. not a stupid, boring cliche.
@@BobJenkins-ez1jl I get what your saying and we want that for a longer reigning villain
I really like the work you’re doing for these movies and the franchise as a whole Josh! You’ve got me really hyped for this film and I can’t wait to see where the Planet of the Apes universe goes from here.
I have a theory that the Simian Flu mutated again, and caused a few surviving humans to become mutants similar to the ones in the original movie's
Lot of flu type of illnesses including the "Made in China one", will not effect all the population, I theorise that the muntants will be those that have built up an immunity to the strain.
@@Fasgand_of_the_Stoors I doubt they will reference that illness as it's still fresh in our memories
My gosh, could you take longer to get to to reactions.
@@kevincobble934 Think that plot was an afterthought as Chalton Heston didn't want to reprise his role in the second movie. If he did there be no spcecraft for Cornelius etc to return to 20th century Earth.
I'm expecting Kingdom to be above Rise but under War in my ranking. Hopefully seeing it next weekend
God I wish Disney can built a universe for planet of the apes at one of them theme parks
Can't wait for the movie so excited!
Can’t wait to see it ! Soooooo excited! I watched planet of the apes on tv as a child back in the 70s early 80s! An immediate fan! I’m here for it all! 🎉
I cannot wait for this movie & enjoyed the ride to it with all of your content! Keep it coming
Thank you!!
I'm so excited I'm going to see it on Wednesday
Hello Ape Nation,
I'm so relieved that the film is being so well-received & critically acclaimed, especially after what we heard & read about the test screenings going so badly. Now the big question is: Will these great reviews translate to big box office & just how huge could it be? It will be fun to speculate. We'll have to wait & see.
Counting down the days until showtime! Great to hear what people are saying who went to the premiere, sounds like we are in for a good time.
So ready for this film! Two of my buddies and I are planning on see it opening day.
TOGETHER. STRONG! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY
Thank you for all these videos, I’m happy for this dedicated channel for fans of the POTA movies. I love this saga (Some mixed feelings on the Tim Burton one) Other channels are giving false information but you are giving more accurate theories.
Also amazing interview with the director!
Thank you!!
Since going on Letterbox I've found it to be a little more reliable when it comes to rating movies because it's mostly the opinions of the general public rather than critics, and the reviews are either intentionally hilarious or serious. When I checked out Kingdom this morning there was perhaps over fifty early reviews on a 1-5 star rating and the majority ranged from 3-5 stars so I think thats a good sign. I think at worst it'll be just an alright film but it's ceiling is up there with the Ceasar trilogy. I dont have any fear of it being a bad film
General moviegoers also aren’t the best at determining if a movie is good or not
@Jidom_101 in some instances I think they can be. Like if a movie was made to be dumb fun then general people would find it amusing whereas critics would hyper analyze it and pick it apart
Proximus…was right!!!! #WONDERFULDAY
My guess is that the reason the embargo is lifting on May 8th (if it isn't because the film is bad) is because 20th Century Studios want a back to back release of both critic reviews in the morning and then audience reviews from the early screenings during the day/afternoon.
Hi Josh (Ape Nation) I hope all is well with you? Proximus will be fondly remembered as a villain (if he is one) as Koba was to Caesar. I’m so excited won’t be long now to we see the best film of 2024. I can’t wait to see Noa, Raka the orangutan , Proximus and Mae. It’s gonna be epic . I already have my Kingdom T-Shirt to wear to the cinema. Let’s Go. Take care 😘🏴 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #CaesarNeverForgotten ❤️ #TeamNoa&Raka ❤️
Apes franchise is awesome because make whatever you want you can go forward in the future and back in the past and present and mirror the fears of the decades
Exactly!! Timeline spans thousands of years, there's so many possibilities!
@@kevincobble934 these films have been in their own continuity since day one.
@@kevincobble934 he also said it might not be. To paraphrase, continuity has always been flexible in this franchise.
@@kevincobble934 true, I'm just saying these new films aren't necessarily prequels.
Wes has never said that this is a prequel to the 1968 film. These films are in their own continuity.
I saw the movie today, I am a diehard fan of planet of the apes. Wow! it was very exciting, I enjoyed it. Hopefully there will be a sequel 😊
Hi Josh /Ape Nation did you by any chance catch the interview with Owen Teague (Noa) about going to ape school and the fact he spent some time at a chimp sanctuary and while there one of the apes on his second day there Owen found his Noa? He said the way the chimp moved, personality etc was everything he envisioned Noa would be so Noa is modelled off a real live chimpanzee. Take care and thanks for another great video regarding the best film of 2024. 😘🏴 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #CaesarNeverForgotten ❤️ #TeamNoa&Raka ❤️
I'm hoping that in this continuity, by the time we get to original film's time period, apes and humans will be living in peace. Obviously their society is going to have problems, but I'll feel a lot better if the apes don't become a dystopia.
Do you think they will make a sequel of it if so when do you think it will come out
Assuming it does well? Yes, but likely not til 2027. These movies take time.
The way Mae reacts to looking through the telescope, it’s not a wondrous expression. It’s a look of deep sadness and loss or disappointment. Looking for the time anomaly to see it’s gone and she realises there’s no way back to where she came from? Or maybe she”s the daughter of an astronaut and has been raised by them? If she isn’t a time traveller, then there must be other humans who can speak, because she would’ve had to have been educated.
I cannot wait for this movie to release
I have a feeling Raka and Koro know more than they're telling about everything.
Probably
"The elders did not tell us everything about this world...." *Raka carefully tucking away some ancient scrolls into the folds of his armpit with his feet-hands*
If you think about it ,there were a lot of Bible references such as the name Noah, the dam being built alongside a huge boat, and the flood having to do with washing away knowledge yet being the catalyst for so much more to come.
I usually try and avoid critics reviews but I'm without a doubt this film will NOT bomb and it will BE a wonderful day May 9th as me, my mum and a friend of mine where I live are going to see it and I've got very high hopes for this movie as I thought the last trilogy was one of the best I've seen since The Dark Knight. I think the PoTA and TDK trilogy have got similar traits the first movie was the weaker of the 3, 2nd Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was a lot better just like Joker in The Dark Knight and then the third a conclusion just like Caeser and Batman both dying for a cause. I've got faith in Wes Ball forr him to carrry the torch from the trilogy to now as much as I loved Andy Serkis's performances were, I just hope this will top it.
I'm going into this with the same mindset I had for Jurassic world.
A bigger scope but less refined film in the franchise.
I loved Jurassic world so hope Kingdom hits similar enjoyment while probably not touching the trilogy that came before.
I just hope Freya Allen does a good job
JUST an hour ago they released a few min sneak peak
(the ad is playing rn on ur vid lol)
Proximus Caesar will be the most iconic villain since Thanos.
FACTS!!!!!!
Here’s to hoping. Also are you discounting the Green Goblin? Sure he debuted in 2002 but his appearance in No Way Home was fantastic.
Riddler is up there lol
Darth Vader is the most iconic villain there will ever be that’s just the facts.
Hahahaha how cute, you think that Thanos was iconic XD
IMO, I'd be good with these movies not coming full circle and doing the time travel plot. At this point, they are their own thing and this plot point is not needed. Instead, reimagine the mutants from the original sequel.
as expected from Ryan's Planet of the apes franchise, it's bound to be amazingly good.
Who's Ryan?
I honestly don't mind the pacing and thematic criticisms, it was the same for Maze Runner and I love those movies to the bone. I am still worried though, I hope It exceeds my expectations
Wait it comes out on may 10th how they see it
Booked my tickets May 7th at 00:00AM Then i will write for you my NO SPOILER Impressions ❤
I really want to see what the ape societies have done with agriculture and animal husbandry in this. Agriculture would be interesting because their requirements are in many ways similar to ours but also very different. Unlike us they can go into forests and jungles and eat a lot of the plant matter raw so they may forage more than we did when we attained agriculture. There's also water proximity, something quite important for agriculture but this may also develop differently in ape settlements as unlike us, other apes tend to get most of their water from the food they eat. But we also notice that many apes are now living further from forested areas.
Animal husbandry.... We know they're still using horses and have seemingly only further developed that skill. But I wonder if we will see beasts of burden for caravans, logistical supply, power generation and vehicles etc. Will dogs feature? Again their evolution will have been a bit different to ours in that a lot of what we used dogs for was hunting and tracking but the apes themselves also do these things very differently to how we did it. Dogs were also used as sentries which seems like a plausible similarity that the apes would also want to adopt if they could. We have seen some eagles which is interesting but not really what they're being used for as of yet.
Thanks to The Adventures of Tin Tin, I got the wrong idea when I saw the words "animal husbandry".
May I ask, where did you get that version of the opening title song from the '68 film you use in your logo
I made it!
@@Ape-Nation Oh cool! Do you have a full version, by any chance?
Most of the time the trailer is great and the movie is great to
Definitely
Hey Josh, besides the movies to you think you will ever give your opinion on any of the other Apes related ancillary media, like comics and games?
Yes! Comics are something that's gonna take me a while to get to, but I'm already planning videos for the games, tv shows, and novels!
@@Ape-Nationbeware planets of the apes comic run right now is so good. Can’t wait until we hear your opinions on it!
Hey Josh , Are you watching it on the 8th (Early Acess) or Are you gonna wait ?
Yep! I'll have my out of theater review uploaded Wednesday night.
Ì have like movies from the trailer all the time or some times if I do not have nothing to do but like it a little and if do not like a movie at all i will not see it
How can the studio prevent people from publishing reviews until a certain day?
They can under certain conditions. If you are allowed to see something early but sign documentation prohibiting you from disclosing certain things before X date, if you break it you can face legal repercussions.
i want proximus to win in the end, I am kind of getting confused how talking humans exist when it has been 300 years. Mae is so pretty but she is annoying me with “it is not yours!” yes it is girl apes dominated the planet and hunt you for knowledge. stop.
noa will be a cool character and he is noble but i am on the villains side for this step forward in apemanity!
Leave his fate unknown so he pops up in the sequel
The apes will win in the end. That's kinda of the whole point of these movies always having "Planet of the apes" in the title. Humanity is dunzo.
@@controlman7490 yes exactly!
Humanity is dunzo
Threads(1984); Hello there
@@controlman7490I'm gonna be a bit pedantic but humans are part of the ape/ primate family tree so it's like the apes have to a point pushed humans out of the family tree or at least humans distanced themselves from the family tree, either way. But for the sake the the films storyline...your point still stands though to an extent
I have no doubt Kingdom will do great at the box office! But what’s killing the box office these days are not the movies themselves but rather the ticket prices. Completely outrageous prices. You reap what you sow.
I think that's a much larger conversation with a lot of other reasons, but that's definitely one of them
Twitter doesnt exist anymore is X now 👍👍😁😁
I'm never calling it X lol
@@Ape-Nation ok but the multi billionare who bought twitter rename it X. So is his toy and make what he want 👍😁
You should have put the title as Kingdom of the planet of the apes review embargo. 🤦🤦🤦
Time stamps are there for a reason, you're welcome to skip ahead
Jeez get to tge reactions plz
Honestly, what Disney have acquired from Fox hasn't been great. Indiana Jones 5 was even worse than the last one, The First Omen was a completely unnecessary prequel. We'll see with this one.
To each their own. I thought Prey and Avatar 2 were both excellent, and as a massive fan of the original Omen, I really enjoyed the First Omen a lot.
Also Indiana Jones wasn't acquired from Fox, that's Lucasfilm.
Indiana Jones isn't from Fox. It was Paramount.
I found Dial Of Destiny an entertaining film overall. Definitely not as good as Raiders Of The Lost Ark or The Last Crusade, but I liked it better than Temple of Doom, and an overall improvement over Crystal Skull, which I also liked.
The movie llooks great. Beets another super hero flop.
💯💯
I’ll take a superhero movie over those awful a24 movies .
I’ll watch A24 anyday. . Superhero films have lost their luster and were always silly and cartoonish with some exceptions like The Dark Knight, Infinity War etc
Yeah.
So what films have you made?
Or
You can just go watch it and decide for yourself
Agreed
Ugh. Critics are not telling you if the film is good or not. They are encouraging you to look deeper at a film. If you like it, they don't care.
Amazing that this still needs to be explained to people.
Just talk about the movie I’m 4 minutes in and nada 👎
Then clearly you watched long enough to notice there are time stamps 🤷🏻♂️ feel free to skip ahead
Not going to bother with this. Third installment ruined the franchise for me. And this one looks no different. Gorillas once again getting the "bad" end of the stick. How original. They had a chance to do something new, fresh and different and they just keep going back to that 40's - 50's and 60's mentality.
I'm sure there are good gorillas around. The ones in the movie are just working for the bad guy.
Weird take but okay!
LOL!
War for the Planet of the Apes was a masterpiece. If you thought that ruined the franchise, I would hate to see what you think is a good movie.
It is a fresh view on the Apes Saga. More like Rise and Dawn than War. If you liked the first two, you will like this one!
I’m happy people like it but I’m still going into this movie with low expectations so I won’t be disappointed.
Same here
