    I debated for a while if to include Daeron's Invasion and Aegon iv's. In terms of Daeron i felt like it was more of a proper actual war and i consider it to be the 5th Dornish war where Aegon iv's 'invasion' was hardly even that. Hence why i decided not to include it. While i don't want to take the wiki as a source of info for stuff like this as it is very subjective, they list under Dornish Wars everything till Daeron's Invasion so that's what i focused on.

    Honestly, you can't blame the Dornish for refusing to bow to the Targaryens. They are pretty much all that remains of the Rhoynar people, whose entire kingdom was wiped out by the Valyrians during their conquests. The survivors led by Nymeria literally ran all the way to the other side of the world to get away from the Valyrians, founded a new home and then these Valyrian upstarts show up and demand they yield their hard-earned freedom and new homeland up to them.

    Instead of leaving the princesses dragon meraxes bones to rot in hell holt I would have moved the bones to Sunspear and put the head above the dornish throne to remind all visitors that dragons are not invincible in dorne.

      If I'm Lord Uller you're gonna have to fight me for the skull, that's going over my gate, I'll send you a dragon claw necklace instead. I'm also curious if the princess's bones rotted beside the beast or what became of them. I don't remember reading if they were returned or consumed in the fiery end of the dragon or something else.

      Intelligent and Secretive?
      Dorne lost many wars, and their hurbis (as well as the Targaryens from time to time) cost the lives of dozens of thousands of Dornish men and women.
      When they attacked in Jaehaerys' reign, my support for Dorne's independence went away. They had NO reason to attack a King who did nothing to them, and I was glad Daeron the Young Dragon went after them himself once he was ready to lead
      His slaying at their hands under a banner of peace is what sold to me that Dorne is where your idea if morals or honor don't matter, only your attitude and pure dumb luck will come in handy.

    It's a quite surprise that Rhaenarya made an arrangement with Dorne in the Dance of Dragons. If Dornish men sided with her and led a peoper attack on reach she can win the war more easily. And Hugh Hammer and Ulf White fly to dorne and dornish accepted them then they get two large dragons.

    I wonder how tactically viable would have been that Aegon and his sisters slept on Tarth and rained directly over the greenblood, not really burning anything but sand and make his way to Sunspear so nobody would he there againand he should not worry of Scorpions as in the prince's pass. Then Aegon could talk to the Yellow Toad himself and explain the necessity of an union against the Others.

    It doesn't make much sense that the targaryens lost
    Sure taking the mountains probs to hard
    But the "urban" areas along the coast would be dirt easy.
    Ethnicity cleanse the roynar and repopulate the area with a new population
    Dragons keep you safe
    Soldiers hold the city
    Ships keep you feed and trade
    In reality the dornish would loose

    • @DougDemonz
      @DougDemonz 7 месяцев назад +5

      They won mostly by attacking the targaryen's supply lines. They weren't used to fighting in such conditions their armor was heavy and cause them to dehydrate quickly the dornish knew their countries layout a lot better and basically all they did was attack the Targaryen supply lines making sure they never were able to get water or food regularly, and then doing shit like poisoning the water holes that they were able to come across

    • @反ヨーロッパのサムライ
      @反ヨーロッパのサムライ 7 месяцев назад +6

      They couldn't really reach the population because they were doing guerrilla attacks, thus the Targaryen's would lose as they did regardless. It makes complete sense, they outlasted the Targaryen's over and over again, because they were strategically and tactically smarter.
      Plus who would from the other regions wish to populate desert areas when they come from greener pastures, especially considering the Dornish would come back and ethnically cleanse them and repopulate with the Dornish again.

      You are thinking like a state, Aegon at the time had a very VERY weak government, and it never was a state, in fact Westeros never saw a state, its a very descentralized feudal system
      So yeah he just happened to build a new nation, a very descentralized and chaotic one, and Dorne is a desert covered by montains fighting a guerilla war, so no, Aegon didnt have resources to produce a professional army, to do ethnical cleaning and long sieges wouldnt work at all because he was the head of the government and Kings Landing needed him
      Plus they just had 2 dragons, Meraxes just died, showing everyone dragons CANNOT keep you safe, specially if Aegon had left Visenya behind, in her first need to dismount Vhagar a surprise attack by land would have ended her and the dragon

    Ima guess that the targaryens didn't have alot of soldiers due to the other lords not seeing much worth in controlling desert
    The dragons would of done most of the heavy lifting
    However I'm surprised they were able to resist as famine would have lead to a massive depopulation of the region.
    Easily 50% killed
