Very helpful for me. I was working as a barista at Costa and I am used to drink my latte perfect. I was very disappointed when I bought my saeco machine and got all these bubbles into my steamed milk..
    Thank you!

I'm glad to see you doing this because I have been doing the same thing and wasn't sure if it was the best choice or not. I acquired the machine used and it was missing the panarello. So at first I kept the rubber handle on...then figured out it could come off. I just haven't been able to get really good latte art quality foam with it yet. I usually end up with way too much foam. Gonna keep practice though 😀

Keep on working at it Ryan! Definitely takes practice!

I love this video! I own a Talea SuperAutomatic. I was never happy with the steam wand. The bubbles were too big. The foam was too much. And I had to stop at about 130 degrees before the pitcher overfilled. This happened even if I put the steam wand to the bottom of the pitcher.
On my first try after watching this video, I had near perfect foam. Small bubbles and not too much. Then I lowered the steam wand into the pitcher and went to 160 degrees!
    Great tip!

I'm surprised more people aren't doing this. I took the panarello off of my Sirena (same maker) because I was unhappy with the steam performance and I was able to get excellent results with only the steam tube. The only downside is that it's rather short.
Try burying the tube first, at an angle near the edge of the pitcher to start a good swirl, and then drop the pitcher until the tip just starts to skim the surface and incorporates air. You get better mixing, faster - better foam for art.

On the Via Venezia, you can use a 20oz pitcher -- but just barely -- without the panarello. I bought the upgraded panarello from SCG (chrome) with a single hole that I can cover with my finger, Works great and my micro-foam is good for latte art.

I think so - the wand design is very similar; I'd try it out! - Kat

The steam wand design is a bit different on the Poemia, so would be more difficult; you don't have as much length in the wand so it would be hard to get it submerged in the milk, etc. - Kat

We don't - funnily enough :D I have a press pot and Gail uses an Aeropress ... we drink so much coffee during the week, we tend to take the weekends off ;) - Kat

Yeah, you'll need to practice a bit to get more of the wet paint quality and not quite a dense foam. Also, you probably want to steam to a cooler temperature - over 140-150F, the foam starts to 'break' a bit. - Kat

Gail is a superhero, steaming milk on the super automatic without the panarello, that requires super powers!

Hi, I have the same machine... the steamer stopped working! I got to ''bang'' on the top of the knob several times before it works... but, the issue is on going... anyway to fix this issue? TIA...

Thanks for the response to my question Kat and for this video! I just got this machine so I will be practicing this. Gail said her batch of milk in this vid wasnt good for latte art, what should she done differently to get it more towards latte art quality? Was it left in too long/too much foam all together? I've tried it twice so far and keep getting capp quality foam but this is my first ever machine that does this so i dont mind practicing more!

Would this same thing work with the intellia SS superautomatico (the one that comes with a cuppaccinatore)? I find the mild it produces doesn't have any sort of decent texture and I've been hoping to make a great cup of coffee from home with this machine.

I've been watching you two for a long time and i love the videos. You probably get this question a lot but what espresso machines do you guys have at home for you're personal use?

Would you recommend doing this with the Poemia? I'm looking to buy a machine for my apartment since I am no longer a barista. I desperately miss making lattes/latte art, but am also rather poor, haha.

These are good choices, but nothing is going to have a traditional wand for under $500 .. the Breville Infuser is the lowest at $499. - Kat

Would this work on the other Saeco machines like the Via Venezia and the Aroma, or are the steam pipes too short for a 20oz pitcher?

What would be my best option? I'm looking to spend not much more than say...250, if I can find a good deal on amazon. So realistically the original price could be about 500, easily.
