Atreus being an anti-hero or the villain is an interesting point of view. I saw him as an emotional teenager stressed on knowing his prophecy and fate, while not thinking rationally on his decisions. Decisions that caused Odin to disguise himself as Tyr and infiltrate their secret base, thus resulting in their plans known and Brok slain.

Kratos I respect, at least he killed Balder to defend Freya, killed Magni to defend himself and his son. Kratos tried to say to Thor "Modi died from Thor's beating", yeah to ward off the fact Loki killed Modi. Hey, Kratos was being a dad. I am happy that Loki learned the pain of killing a living person then killing in cold blood, and realizing the consequences years later. As a God, I kinda like this story of his growth, to have him learn all this young. Yet his cowardice towards Thor, deflecting his responsibility, Thor was justified in trying to Kill Loki after the mask was complete.

All jokes aside, Atreus's story is far from being over considering it's heavily implied he's going to travel to different pantheons in order to find the rest of the giants since they're nowhere within the nine realms (now 8 lol). I feel as though the game directors would wanna head in a direction where Atreus slowing turns more into a full fledged Loki, from Norse mythology. The god of mischief and a cunning trickster. I like how they implemented the fact that he likes to run on chaos in the game the same way Loki's aim in Norse mythology was to always create chaos for the aesir. In the tale, he even cuts off Sif’s hair for seemingly no reason other than to amuse him. However, he always fixes his mistakes with an added bonus to the aesir, just like in the game.
The quote "Loki Will Go, Atreus Remains" could have multiple meanings and show further foreshadowing of Atreus really going off the deep end the older he gets. Kratos's son will remain in his heart even if he goes and then returns as an unrecognizable Loki.

    • @TheNaturex20
      @TheNaturex20  Год назад +38

Yeah that’s most definitely the direction they’re taking. And in all seriousness his cunningness is most definitely gonna have to evolve into that true Loki level in order to make it in these other Pantheons. What I’m most interested in looking into the future is the gods and figures that Loki is gonna encounter. I wonder how they are gonna react to him and what other intelligent minds is he gonna have to clash with. Lowkey kinda excited even though there’s a low chance for some Kratos action.

I want to say that most of what he did in the story was just his childish recklessness but what he did to odin and asgard in general was definitely true to loki. He used his first ticket to asgard to get odin to reveal his main goal, then once odin realized he NEEDED loki to accomplish said goal, loki knew he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. The lying and manipulation was of odin, and the burning city is asgard.

In actual nose mythology jormuggander, fenrir who has links to gamar, and Hel (rules over hell) all are lokis children who were wronged by Odin which Kickstart s ragnarok despite Odin trying to prevent it. It is fragmented prophecy that is inevitable so if we look at it from God of war standpoint there was no truly stopping ragnarok only diminishing its casualties where instead of three entire survivors they had time to help others. If that was atreus's plan then the only snag was what happened to brok. As in myth sure loki may be the drinking buddy who roasts everybody, but he was also the one to clean up literally a majority of the messes the aesir created and essentially scapegoated as a way to wash away any misdeeds. Holy shit that basically makes him a Jesus figure but that is the problem when your two best source materials date back to the 1300s after the region had been christianized. Some myths we know as unaffected due to Roman generals writing about it and some carvings still left as most traditions were passed on orally rather than written though this spin of him trying to be good isn't inaccurate from the surviving source material as it is even suggested loki us a title not a name like when Thor and loki go party at utgard Loki's place who is a master illusionist that humiliates Thor yet makes Thor look bad ass at the same time by having him fight an old lady that is literally the personification of death itself and just the fact he lasted three minutes was enough for him to go oh balls I took the joke too far.

THANK YOU NATURE904!!! I said this in Reddit and they downvoted me to OBLIVION!
    -SPOILERS-
I have a feeling Santa Monica is trying to set up an Anakin Skywalker type character arch for Atreus/Loki. If you notice in the Ragnarok game Atreus dreams about the MASK before he even has it in his possession. During this dream sequence we go back to all the evil and nasty things Atreus did/said in the 2018 game. Remember when some of these things happened Atreus said he didn't remember or it didn't even feel like it was him saying/doing these things.
To me it seemed like in this dream the mask was actually calling out to him. To further delve into this theory, even Odin in a terrified state said only the "CHAMPION OF THE JOTNAR CAN PUT ON THE MASK"...meaning Odin knew MUCH more about this than he let on. This isn't over. This mask will return more than likely and an adult Atreus while on a journey to find the rest of the Jotnar may not like what he sees. Going back to what I said about the Anakin Skywalker story arch...when Anakin's mother died in his arms he slaughtered an entire village of people.
Atreus's powers are still manifesting. Bro legit TOUCHED ODIN THE ALL-FATHER and said SOOFFFTAAA...and removed his SOUL. Atreus at 16/17 is NOT just a regular God we've seen in this series. This is Zeus's grandson with Jotnar blood...he's going to be a PROBLEM. lol

Odin manipulated things by giving the boy some information, knowing he would be curious for more. and that through him, he could have a shield against a more powerful god in Kratos, as they make it pretty clear the greek gods were the Superiors of the Norse in power and ability.
and use the knowledge obtained through the prophecy/Atreus to truly become the real embodiment of what "all-father" represents.
He had thor rile up Kratos to bring him back to his old ways so Atreus would see a unhinged man compared to himself as the helpful understanding one. And aggravating her further as you imply would do the opposite of what you say he intended.
Another MASSIVE hole to your entire idea would have required him to know the full power of Kratos, which he didn't for the majority of this manipulation.
He also clearly didn't need the weapon to beat Heim. He was winning well before that to the shock and dismay of Heim. Which is why he was in such shock he thought it was luck. As his ability has a GLARING weakness in that all one need do is think of 1 action while instinct performs another. Which he would be susceptible too and would then make his power absolutely worthless because it's no more accurate than not having it at all, and based on how much he relies on it for everything in life, would become a weakness.
There are multiple points in the story that prove the Norse gods are weak. They can't go back in time, like the fate sisters could. Odin is not able to teleport without restriction. Where not only can Zeus do so but he can do so with an aspect of himself. Odin can only morph into those he imprisoned, unlike the shifter gods of Greece like Zeus. It is outright said that the greek gods always looked down on the Norse. And couple that with the fact they supposedly own the realm of midgard (earth) but in fact only control a small portion of it, despite being conquerors and not stepping a foot in greece. Shows they were inferior and and Odins Conquering nature is precisely why he wants the infinite knowledge because with that he thinks he can trully become a representation of "all-father."
Then you have the fact Kratos only has a fraction of his godly powers, and nowhere near the fire power through weaponry he had before and yet was able to beat a god famed to be untouchable much less unkillable in heim. And then later went on to solo Thor, and then be the primary factor to beat Odin back to back. 2 of arguably the most powerful gods in all of Norse mythology. Where as Kratos with a large amount of incredible weaponry struggled with many of the greek Pantheon.

    • @TheNaturex20
      @TheNaturex20  Год назад +11

You see that’s what I don’t like about the Norse Pantheon. Why did they have to be considerably weaker than the Greek Pantheon. This is one of the reasons why I found them unsatisfying as an opposing force to Kratos and Atreus. There were too many holes in their game considering that we went the entirety of the 2018 story hyping these gods up just for them to be wiped out so quickly.
And while I still believe there to be some truths in my argument, I only see it as an interesting perspective to look at the story from. And the actions of Loki can gain even worse consequences if he continues to act so recklessly (if you see him as a good guy that is)

    • @zephirol4638

@@TheNaturex20 I'm not sure, I'd have liked them to have made midgard it's own location showing Kratos leaving earth to go there. And make them a worthy foe. It had a strong story but as far as a game making you think there was a challenge, it kinda fell flat in my eyes as well.
And I agree. I also think (theory nothing definitive outside of how the previous story telling has went) that the various times Atreus turned to be the aspects of gods that Kratos hates the most is going to actually lead to a point (and imo the finale for Kratos) where he and Atreus become enemies.
And I can see something like where Kratos sacrifices himself in some manner in order to save his son in the end which then brings him a need for redemption and he likely take up the mantle for the future games after that in his fathers name. But only time will tell how everything plays out.
In any case thanks for the reply, and like I said nice job on constructing the theory. It definitely has its potential for validity, even if it might have some strong counter reasonings against it. Keep up the good work.

      1. The sisters of fate are more powerful than mos't Greek gods as well and mos't gods could not travel back in time like they could.
      2. Odin's shape shifting abilities are not made enitrely in game but it is not just those he imprisoned the reason he has them there is so that there is no risk of them dying and so that he can keep track of where they are.
      3. Midgard is not Earth, Earth in the Gow continuity is made of all the different pantheons and the gods themselves in these instances only rule the areas of which their historical religions were present in.
4 It is NEVER stated that Kratos uses a fraction of his god powers.
      5. Kratos needed Draupnir specifically to kill Heimdall, without it he would not have succeded.
      6. Kratos needed to use EVERY trick he had to beat Thor. The Leviathan Axe, The Blades of Chaos, Draupnir and even his knife to take down Thor. In their first fight Thor even killed Kratos.
      7. Kratos was close to loosing twice against Odin, had Freya and Atreus not helped him he would have los't.
I respect your opinion and I do agree that the Greek gods arguably possesed more powerful magic but it would be incorrect to state that the Norse gods are weak.

3.It's not, go re play the games and watch the storyline. Midgard is represented as earth, the other realms are in a different aspect of reality.
      4. He never gained 100% of his powers back from the pre Norse GoW games... He is definitely a fraction, not to mention his lack of his various weaponry which helped make him the GoW he was at his peak.
      5. Obviously not as he was choked to death. The weapon was only there to give him an edge. But considering what took place in the battle, it was clearly not needed. The whole aspect that was the challenge was would Kratos be able to hit him. He clearly was able to achieve that with or without the spear.
      6. ... It's like you didn't even pay attention in the game. The Kratos Thor beat wasn't the god version of Kratos, he was a lesser man. Hence why Thor fought him to bring out that old Kratos. The whole goal was to win over his son, which would have been done had Kratos given into his rage. Which was the whole concept of the game of him overcoming and learning from his past to become the real god he had always tried to be but always went about things in the worst way possible.
      7. You don't know that, and nothing that took place was beyond anything Kratos was able to handle in the past.

Whatever he has to do, whomever he has to ally with or betray, he wants whatever answers are inside that Rift, and only Loki can use the mask to look inside as far as he knows. So, start Ragnarok, stop Ragnarok, whatever has to happen to see, to know. He just wants to use Loki as a looking glass, whatever has to happen to keep him on Odin's side, he'll make that happen. Of course he lets him off the hook for literally everything. He doesn't care about Asgard, or he'd have prioritized keeping Gjallarhorn inside it, because he knew Kratos was going for Heimdall. I was so hype watching him try to start this when obviously Odin and everyone else didn't want it. But they then just did a complete random flip for no context reason and Odin became the true evil. But for no literal reason. He didn't take his Dio Mask and he didn't have any real reason to be a spy because it wasn't story-wise addressed. He made the Trickster god look like the joke himself. I thought maybe it could be saved by Kratos doing the mural scene half the game was making drama over but that never happened and instead of the wolf doing the lore thing, Sindri comes and ugh.

I'm just saying kratos can kill heimdall without the spear. if we go by lore my man can catch hermies a god with infinite speed😂

I don’t doubt it . It’s get kinda iffy when we look at the gameplay and take it literal to the lore. Which is exactly what I did lol. I’m thinking that lore wise it would be a stalemate or something.

Throughout the game, he's been trying to plan out how to start Ragnarok. Even from the beginning when Odin and Thor told him what he was up to and Kratos was caught off guard with those comments. He even called Kratos an ass hole. He should have gotten an ass beating. There! Ragnarok averted! The end!

Pretty interesting but it does make sense. This dude always seems to get atleast 1-2 villain arcs per GOW. I could def see this as some fucked up 4D chess play where Kratos has to confront him.

Me too, and I thought that Bjorn fight was crazy. Fighting a conscious Atreus would be something else.

If kratos beat atreus atreus would be dead

Imagine if that's how the game started, when Atreus turned into that bear and got beaten down by Kratos. Maybe he would've gone to Freya and begged her to revive his son in exchange for his own life.

I love this take. Throughout the whole game, I felt like Kratos was getting shit on a bit too much, just for being careful about war! This guy knows more about warfare than anyone in this game, except maybe true Tyr. Atreus getting what he wants seems like re-confirmation of his destructive biases.
As Kratos said, Atreus will remain, while Loki might travel elsewhere. Imagine a God of War game, in which you play as an Egyptian character, or perhaps a Mayan or Roman. There is some "invisible figure" who is quietly manipulating the local gods and goddesses. You fight your way past the puppets, and reach the true instigator; a completely masked-up Loki with the power of the Rift.

If atreus is a manipulator, then who do you expect he got that from the greek gods, of course, who were certified manipulators I'm not sure about his mother

I do see the resemblance of manipulation between Atreus and the Greek Gods. People like Athena and Ares come to mind so he could’ve gotten it from them. Personally though, I think it’s his own nature adopted for the means of survival. Because he’s definitely not a powerful god as of right now.
