I'm quite impressed how you got that conversation around Markus Söder. And yes, he has become a meme, especially in the heute show bubble. He is said to be quite egotistical and he is often ridiculed for that, like in this video where this guy ironically described him as a king. For example when he lost an internal contest to be the front-runner for the CDU/CSU-party in the election in 2021, he constantly critisized the other candidate from his own party who then later went on to lose the general election. Many people say it's partly because of Söder's constant back-stabbing. And like most politicians, outside of Bavaria he is not very popular, because Bavarian politicians from the CSU often rally against the central government in Berlin and like to pick fights with literally all the other states by saying that Bavaria is the best of all states and we shouldn't pay for all the others.
For context, historically the kingdom of Bavaria has had a special status, dating back to the proclamation of the German Empire, but of course it is at present day just as much of an ordinary union state as the others. This identity is still seen in some people though, which is underlined by the separation of the conservative CDU/CSU party, of which the latter is it's Bavarian, catholic, arguably more right-wing formation, for example. Even Söder's predecessor as head of the CSU fought with Merkel, head of the CDU, all the time, before Söder started infighting with him, took his spot, to do the same, lol.

I am a German medical student and I do strongly support the institution of parliamentary monarchy as well as exclusively ceremonial kings and queens (without political power) as symbolic heads of State. To my mind, His Majesty the King is a superb role model for modern society. He embraces social virtues such as solidarity, empathy and kindness just alike progress, a thirst for knowledge and a quest for improvement for all people. Charles III was furthermore among the first men of international significance who openly spoke out for sustainability in society, the economy and most importantly in matters of climate change and environmental protection already in the 1970s. Symbolic kings like him, who do not have to submit to the political quagmire that is party politics and divisiveness, are the best form of head of State because of their political neutrality. Only they can represent all members of society without exception since they do not qualify for participating in politics, parliament, government and jurisdiction and can take care of social and ecological projects as well as valuably support charities (i.e. the Prince's Trust which helps thousands and thousands of children who were left behind by society and politics). An elected president, contrary to parliamentary monarchs, is only ever hoisted into office by one group of people, often not even by an absolute majority of those eligible to vote. How then is a president supposed to represent all people? It is the election that deprives a president of the capacity to serve the people and become a symbol of national unity and indivisibility of the nation like a king, a figurehead to look up to in an ever-changing world. The separation of the head of State from politics is now more than ever an important factor for stability and continuity in society and it is precisely for this reason that I envy Great Britain, the Benelux countries, the Scandinavian countries and Spain for their representative, non-political, ceremonial monarchies. However, I admit that the British monarchy needs to implement certain reforms in order to regain legitimacy in a pluralistic and egalitarian society and to integrate in the best way possible into the modern understanding of the interplay between kingship as representation and popular rule (democracy) as the source of sovereignty. It would be great advice to observe the monarchies of the Northern countries which did very successfully manage to implement such reforms: It is vital, for instance, that they determine in the constitution that national sovereignty do not derive from the Crown anymore but from the people, that members of the royal family are just as much citizens of the State and equal before the law just as everyone else, that they are not excempt from paying taxes (although King Charles does voluntarily pay taxes just like his mother did) and that the royal prerogative rights in matters of legislation, jurisdiction and government will be completely handed over to the respective institutions also in terms of consitutional law (parliament, government, constitutional court; even though in the UK these have already been exercised by parliament and government for more than 200 years and it has thus become constitutional practice so that the king can practically no longer exercise them himself). It can be seen from history that the greatest weakness of republics is to allow divisive and dangerous characters to lead the nation (e.g. as presidents) who can then hurt the welfare of all citizens and act only for their own benefit, shatter social stability or even impose a dictatorship. When the highest office in the State, which should only be of a ceremonial nature, is held by a hereditary monarch for the benefit of all the people of the nation, then sinister forces are prevented from usurping power; loyalty is focused on the King and the nation, not on the often questionable characters of politics. And because of that it is that I want to proudly shout: God save the King!

Thank you so much! You looking up and learning about the things you didn't understand or knew about before asking your viewers to explain it in the comment section just comes to show how high quality your work really is. 😋 Many reaction-RUclipsrs can't even be arsed to google for a word or a translation and just skip it, which honestly takes away from the entire reaction and destroys so many good jokes. Strangely enough that's somewhat frustrating for someone who really wants non-Germans to get the full "German Experience". It's probably a typical German Angst thing; even 80 years later we basically still feel the urge to seek validation from other countries and need to know if we did well or not - tbh, that's literally the entire reason why Germans would be watching foreign people's reactions to things we already knew about and which are quite normal for us. 😬
The majority of Germans would be more along the lines of the first guy, maybe less emotional. While some people enjoy the tabloid/gossip around royals, that's completely separate from the form of government. In fact Germans with "royal ancestry" get clowned upon when they speak up about monarchy and such, for example by Heute Show or ZDF Magazin Royale. "ZDF Magazin Royale Prinz Georg Friedrich von Preußen" would be one you could watch. Personally I see where the guy is coming from. Looking at it from the outside and potentially lacking knowledge on details, it seems like a disproportional wealth and power founded on irrational and unjust circumstances, with a dark and oppressive history.
somehow a scott supporting the british monarchy is the most surprising thing i have seen today. I guess things got cooler since the times of William Wallace ;)
Well, technically the Scots won the dispute over the british throne when James I. ascended it... He was after all also James VI. of Scotland and the son of Mary, Queen of Scots. And he is an ancestor of all the monarchs since. Even the Hanoverians just got the job because they descended from him. So, technically speaking, this is a Scot supporting a Scottish Royal Family.
Söder is a ridiculous character who only cares about himself and his position, he likes to present himself with the flair of a monarch and has an ego that matches. But I wouldn’t compare him to Donald Trump. Having Söder as our Ministerpräsident is mostly frustrating because he is so self absorbed. So comparing him to a king is very accurate, he doesn’t really have any policies or goals he just wants to stay in power and be admired for no reason. (He’s not actively antidemocratic🥴) As for the Wärmepumpen: A lot of Germans want to upgrade their house with one to be less reliant on heating oil or gas, the prices of which went up a lot after Russia attacked Ukraine.
You got the bit about Markus Söder absolutely right. He's sometimes jokingly referred to as "King Maggus (that's his first name in his dialect) the first", because that's how he behaves
2:41 Unfortunately a popular misunderstanding. The president in Germany is NOT powerless. He is the function of last resort. When everything breaks, he has the final say. To perceive him as powerless just proves how stable German democracy is perceived. Not sure about royal institutions in UK, is it similar? In Germany at least, this is very clearly laid out in the written constitution. In UK it’s would probably rather a hypothesis that no one would like to test.
as a Bavarian i feel compelled to point out: we all know that _all_ options on the ballot are shite, so we just elect who's most fun to watch. cept maybe last time with the AfD - i am lowkey scared that one could be in earnest and i'm not proud of it.

Markus Söder is a bit full of himself (even more than other politicians) and there were always some jokes about him dreaming of an independent Bavaria, with him at the top. btw: Not only Bavaria had a King - Until 1918 the Kaiserreich had 25 States, 4 of them were Kingdoms (Saxony, Bavaria, Prussia and Württemberg).

Markus Söder is that type of guy who is saying today the one thing and tomorrow the complete opposite. It was really extreme during covid, on the one day he said that we needed more restrictions just to blame on the next those politicians that taken measures. Markus is a 'Fähnchen im Wind', has no political opinion and would say anything to save his poll numbers. And his partner in crime, Robert Aiwanger, the leader of Freie Wähler which is the coalition partner of the CSU in Bavaria used to have antisemitic broadsheets in his youth but Markus Söder did not care and neither did the Bavarian people.

First thing I wanted to say is that I am for preserving the heritage of the royal families everywhere on the globe, but out of historical interest. Today people shouldnt be living in palaces and of the estate that we the people have paid and worked for. Second thing is that I really appreciate you taking the time to google names, words etc. It makes a big difference :)
I would adress the people as such: Bürgermeister of Freiburg, Horn: Guten Tag, Herr Horn. Ministerpräsident of Baden-Württemberg, Kretschmann: Guten Tag, Herr Kretschmann Bundeskanzler der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Scholz: Guten Tag, Herr Bundeskanzler. There's a certain level of authority of the office, that I'm willing to respect.
The guy said.. I guess you could say that he's some kind of king too... That's the meaning, it just needs lesser words in German, but that's what's being said..
There are actually "best of" videos of these, where for example Lutz and Fabian Köster talk about their "interviews" in a funny way and show the best clips. These videos are usally about 20 minutes long...
Maybe the anti royalists are nice people too, when you meet them in another context? ;) Its a little bit easy to say people who critisize something just have the wrong mindset. We in germany are quite sceptical about monarchy. Here only weirdos still think that their birth to a noble family means anything. Thats why british monarchy is a nobrainer for comedy to us. But, If you like to pay this amount of money for this kind of VIP-reenactement, I respect that.
The heat pump joke was made because at that time, the "Wärmepumpen-Gesetz" or heat pump law was being discussed. Our minister of climate wanted to pass a law that would force everyone who builds a new house to install heat pumps, which are cheaper in the long run and better for the climate. The opposition, who governed Germany for 16 years before that and ruined our country by not investing in the future, wasn't to happy about that, so they started a huge debate about it.
They are not "cheaper in the long run". A heat pump system will cost you ca. 55k EUR, the heat pump itself (without the peripherials around it) will cost you 28...30k EUR. And such a device will last you for 20...25 years, before you'll need a new one. The "energy savings", when compared to a normal electric heating system (10...15k for its installation), will not pay for itself in just 25 years, for the average German house. Sadly that's when you need to buy a new one.
@@dnocturn84 I meant cheaper compared to installing a new gas heating system into your house. The CO2 tax will make those unaffordable in the near future.
Hmmm. Royal Family ... Well their kinda cute , there is an old satire of Peter Alexander playing all members of the royal Family, must be in the 80's somewhere
For many Germans the british monarchy represents a shiny piece of europian history, tradition and culture. Our own monarchy was cut after WW1, but there is a sincere for Beauty: Clothes, golden thrones, carriages, luxury weagons filled with weaving ladies, smiling wedding couples comin out of cathedrals, shiny soldiers on horses... all that. Many Germans, asked in a TV-interview, would claim their neutrality/fiew interest towards monarchy... but when the big coronations- or wedding-ceremonies are shown live, far more people sit down and watch it :) Most viewers of course, when it is about UK. Second: all around Queen Sylvia of Sweden and Princess Caroline of Monaco and our (scandal-) Prince Ernst August of Hannover (his house is related to many british Royals as well as to e.g. Richard Lionheart...) and finally : the monarchies of Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Norway... Being asked me personally: I like the british monarchy, representing all those european kingdoms: the current ones, who `survived`, as the former Kingdoms - which gives me a wonderful `fade over` to the `King of Bavaria`: Bavaria once was a kingdom (the castle of Neuschwanstein was built by the most famous of them: Ludwig II.) Bavaria since WWII has a very strong political party: the CSU (which is a unique construction and partnership with CDU, because they are nearly close in their intentions...) The CSU for some decades had mor than 50% seats in Bavarian Parliament, therefore the Ministerpräsidenten of Bayern `reigned like kings`... The rest of Germany makes fun about Bavarians, as the Bavarians do not like the `Prussians` in the north (in Football: `BORUSSIA` Dortmund e.g.) and make fun about the Frisians in the further north, especially about the Islanders of Helgoland, which today is charming humour in both directions: Helgoländers expect Bavarians to visit the island as tourists in leather-trousers (Lederhosen)... and sometimes, the Bavarians even DO it :)
See...I love we have a republic over here, but I nonetheless enjoyed spending the coronation day at The Mall, celebrating the occasion with Brits (who seemed to be genuinely happy). His majesty is - like his mother - a charming person, so why not having him as a symbolic face of the country? Also: funny you mentioned people find German a hard-souding language - all my German friends think, that Czech is much worse, than German (mainly because of the lack of vocals 🤭).
Macus söder definetly views himself as some kind of king. He's more a king of a hill type of guy but he wouldnt know that or what that means or english in general. :)
6:07 Jetzt beruhigen wir uns alle mal, Kinder - ganz ruhig. Das ist eine schöne Sache. Da müssen wir nicht so ein Theater machen! Das kriegen sie irgendwie nicht hin. Now let's all calm down, kids - very calm. That's a beautiful thing. We don't have to make such a fuss about it. Somehow they can't manage it
For me the royal family is also not really much more than a daily soap opera. The question is : is it worth the price it all costs ? Also of course in history monarchy was never really good for the normal people, they were just like parasites sucking the life out of the commons. So yeah .. not really a big fan of them. The whole serfdom was in the end also just a kind of slavery. Oh and i also think we have still waaay to much of these guys here in germany. And most of them still think that they are "better" humans then the rest of us.
I really like your approach on seeing things positively rather than complaining. Though I'm not so sure about the idolising. This usually leads to not reflecting enough and being uncritical. But nevertheless, I can really recommend you a video from ja Böhmermann, he made an satire show about the royals, or rather about the media portraying them. So if you want to it would be a blast to whatch you react to it
Today Bavaria is a Bit like Texas. The Primeminister Soeder sometimes acts like a King, but he is more like a turncoat (Faehnchen im Wind). And not as bad as Trump.
I really liked HM The Queen. She was a fantastic representative of the United Kingdom abroad. Probably one of the most well-known and highly respected people on the planet. It remains to be seen if King Charles can continue that tradition. Yes the monarchy costs a lot of money. But the monarchy is also the trademark of the United Kingdom and that is worth a lot of money, too.
Having the royal family is just some quirky, silly thing the brits have. Kinda strange to have in 2023, and to spend money on them/them not having them pay taxes.
Oh... I like the Counts of Battenberg. They're not the first Germans to form the English royal family. I also have a small personal connection. Very close to where I live, the last time an English king led his troops into battle himself. He was also German, but from the House of Hanover at the time. And of course he beat the French...
I agree with "The Primeminister Söder sometimes acts like a King, but he is more like a turncoat (Faehnchen im Wind). And not as bad as Trump." In Bavaria reigns one democratic party for decades: CSU (Christlich-soziale Union) - so Söder has a standing there. And: you should never forget, that Bavarians still worship their former king, Ludwig II.
Who was a proven madman, drowned himself in the Starnberger See after having wasted the state's money building expensive fairy castles ... (which, admittedly, bring a lot of tourists to Bavaria nowadays, so at least they seem to repay now)
01:25 I would prefer the old regnal family... The proud "House of Hannover", with these prominent Kings and the most famous queen of'em all... Queen Victoria the Resolute, Queen of the british realms, Mother of Europe, Guardian of the Grand Empire, Empress of the Commonwealth, Mistress of the industrial age, and Eponym of the Era!
It's funny, Mert, if you try to pronounce german words and are curious about their meaning ;) There are not only many funny sounding german words for Britons and other Anglo-nations, but many cities and villages too... the most famous is in Bavaria and begings with F* ;) It's possible, that Germany has a lot of words that are longer than the welsh ones, because here it is the tradition to build compound words. The longest german word I know has 67 letters... ^^
I don't know how people in Germany think generally about the Royal Family, I'd guess it's fifty-fifty. I think it's unnecessary, costing the tax payers a lot of money for the and while people live in poverty this family survives off them. Also not helping really but benefiting from the people. Also they relay some questionable, very old values, like being low key racist (Meghan Markle) and not to speak about the Comon Wealth - which is just colonialism - exploiting countries and robbing them of their identities...
5:30 before WWII, people said, German is the Language of Poetry. We can rhyme so many words, and r able make irresponsibly long chain-words... _"Da steh' ich nun, Ich armer Tor,_ Poor fool I am, now' stand once more, _und bin so klug, las wie zuvor._ No wiser than I was before. _Heiße Magister, heiße Doktor gar,_ called magister, called doctor even, _und ziehe schon an die zehn Jahr'_ and now, for ten long years, _herauf, herab und quer und krumm_ upwards, downwards, back, and forth, _Meine Schüler an der Nase herum._ I give my pupils the run-around. _Und sehe, dass wir nichts wissen können..."_ Just to behold, that we can't know anything... (managed to rhyme the first lines, in english, but gave up. literal translation, and rhyming in a non-mothertongue language is hard as hell XD )
As a German, I am very happy to live in a republic and not in a dictatorship or monarchy where a guy like Prince Charles is now king... just because he was born...And you had to be very uncritical against British colonialism if you support the British royal family.
Wärmepumpen is a big political discussion in germany, since like 2 years, lot of populism involved here. And yeah, markus söder is a populistic politican with a kind of person cult around him

HOW A STATE A SOCIETY IS HOLD TOGETHER !
Church and crown rule the world! And everything else in between can be traced back to that! You just have to watch carefully. It`s like a puzzle.
@DerDschibriel
Meine Güte, aus welcher Mottenkiste kommst du denn mit deinem unterwürfigen Absolutismus Angehimmel?!
Echte Basisdemokratie ist für dich wohl ein Fremdwort.

'calm down children
Thank you so much! You looking up and learning about the things you didn't understand or knew about before asking your viewers to explain it in the comment section just comes to show how high quality your work really is. 😋
Many reaction-RUclipsrs can't even be arsed to google for a word or a translation and just skip it, which honestly takes away from the entire reaction and destroys so many good jokes.
I really like you looking up things and reacting to this information. It makes your videos even better to see someone learning new stuff.
I love how Mert is fangirling the german language over the word "Wärmepumpen" xD

Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Kommentarbereich!
somehow a scott supporting the british monarchy is the most surprising thing i have seen today. I guess things got cooler since the times of William Wallace ;)
Rangers fan innit.
He mentions the heat pumps, because the promotion of them became a hyterical political issue
(He’s not actively antidemocratic🥴)
As for the Wärmepumpen:
A lot of Germans want to upgrade their house with one to be less reliant on heating oil or gas, the prices of which went up a lot after Russia attacked Ukraine.
4:13 Exactly, 100 percent correct, amazing how you recognized that
You got the bit about Markus Söder absolutely right.
In UK it’s would probably rather a hypothesis that no one would like to test.
lmao "I give you my flag as a symbol of like ... uhm ... togetherness..." that is such a lovely scene ☺
he said: now we all come down, children. we don't have to do such a theater. 😂
"King Tschaultz"😂 I love it!!!!
as a Bavarian i feel compelled to point out: we all know that _all_ options on the ballot are shite, so we just elect who's most fun to watch.
cept maybe last time with the AfD - i am lowkey scared that one could be in earnest and i'm not proud of it.
Markus Söder...
It is an inside joke here🤣
It's interesting how much you've understood of him interviewing the group of Germans. It appears to me that humour is quite helpful in learning foreign languages. Well actually I've experienced that effect myself. From time to time I've bought issues of "Punch" and "Private Eye".
6:09 come on children. Now let’s all calm down. It’s a beautiful thing here, there is no reason to make such a Theater. In German ein Theater machen is like acting up, making a fuss
Yes Söder is like that ... he is against Crystal Mett(Brötchen) 😂😂😂 so stupid and self in love
4:53
Nope, you nailed it 😂👍🏻
Markus Söder - The King of Bavaria, but not really respected in the rest of Germany...
How you das "Wärmepumpen" is SO cute 😂😩
Moin as a Form of hello in any daytime. Normal all over northern Germany. Servus for Bavaria, Same hello at all daytimes
excellent understanding of the question wether the Germans have a king as well. That was precisely what he asked and the other did indeed reply with "do we??". I think he was being sarcastic tho. I'm always surprised of your effort to work more with the reacted material!
You are so funny! I always laugh from beginning til end. First your a Cent, never hear Scottish speaking before. And I am 54. And your well asking exes about us Germans.
Wow.. you became a real Germany-fan, meanwhile 🙂👍
Time to visit that nice country und maybe to learn a bit german 😁
I think you know James Bray from USA.
He started as you, with a few german clips. Meanwhile he speaks german nearly fluent and visited Germany multiple times 😉
I agree with your comment, but I don't like that you are schering all Bavarians over one Kamm.
I love him since he made “Jimmy Breuer” on 1live morning radio. Every morning a laugh :)
the "ware" in "Schmuggelware" isn't pronounced like the english word "ware" though, Germans have their own "Ware" ;)
Just like in "heute show", he drops the "e" at the end.
@@Matty0311MMS He can't speak German. It's not important
@@alansmith4748
That's why I was trying to correct him.
You so understand German quiet well 👍
I LOVE you reacting to the Heute Show and Lutz!!!
4:48 thats completely correct!

He said:
Ok, children lets all calm down and play nice , this is a good thing and we all wanna have our fun here...
Someone has to do it:
Schmuggelware comes from the german word "schmuggeln", which means smuggle, and the word "Ware" which means ware
Nice, more Videos, love it!!❤❤
as a Fly Fisher i ask myself what i say now when the trout get the Fly ! (insider)
Still no Henning Wehn reaction... 🤦🏽♂️
The Windors are from Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha (Albert) and Prinz Philipp was from Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg und Hessen. So King Charles are very "German" ;). So we are proud of our British Kingdom ;))). As always in historie, we are all related but we have always fights with each other. Like families at christmas time but with weapons. ;) So we love GB but sometimes we are angry with you :). Greetings from Bavaria (the Scottland of Germany)!
Böhmermann has also coronation video
Im german and i lkke the british royal family, its like some kind of soap opera to us to be honest.
At least to me 😂
The king of Germany is able to listen to the music of Vivaldi, day-in and day-out!

I think it’s for copyright reasons..
One of my best friends is Scottish. She doesn't share your respect for the royal family...at all. 😂❤
pls more reactions to van der horst if there are translated videos..😂
Hi, I'm from germany, and I LOVE your videos. As a matter of fact I have to say, that I don't understand everything. But I also watch movies with my favourite actors in english. May I ask you: are you scottish? Your accent.... I think it's scottish. I love Emma Thompson, and she has a few movies, where you can hear, she's scottish (well, half) too. Looking forward for more videos from you. Greetings from germany.
From Hamburg with Luv to Alba:
1789, France
I would adress the people as such:
Bürgermeister of Freiburg, Horn: Guten Tag, Herr Horn.
Ministerpräsident of Baden-Württemberg, Kretschmann:
Guten Tag, Herr Kretschmann
Bundeskanzler der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Scholz:
Guten Tag, Herr Bundeskanzler.
Markus Söder isn't a King. He's a GOD-King.
I feel bad for the children born into this circus.
@@dragongirl6492 Yeah, I understand what you mean. On the other hand, life can be much worse. Who am I to finally judge?
sehr lustig :-)
The CO2 tax will make those unaffordable in the near future.
you could try to set the subtitles to automated English translation, but it depends, sometimes they are not useful
Being asked me personally: I like the british monarchy, representing all those european kingdoms: the current ones, who `survived`, as the former Kingdoms - which gives me a wonderful `fade over` to the `King of Bavaria`:
Bavaria once was a kingdom (the castle of Neuschwanstein was built by the most famous of them: Ludwig II.)
Bavaria since WWII has a very strong political party: the CSU (which is a unique construction and partnership with CDU, because they are nearly close in their intentions...)
The CSU for some decades had mor than 50% seats in Bavarian Parliament, therefore the Ministerpräsidenten of Bayern `reigned like kings`...
Somehow they can't manage it
As someone who is Irish (specifically Northern Irish) Charles definitely isn't my king.
Forgot Sex Pistols?
"God save the queen, we mean it man.."
Markus Söder is a meme
Isn't it great to see that this country is so modern and advanced that even a man can become Queen? ;)
💞
What accent is it you have? I always assumed you were irish.
Glaswegian, I think
verry nice video
I really like your approach on seeing things positively rather than complaining. Though I'm not so sure about the idolising. This usually leads to not reflecting enough and being uncritical.
But nevertheless, I can really recommend you a video from ja Böhmermann, he made an satire show about the royals, or rather about the media portraying them. So if you want to it would be a blast to whatch you react to it
Söder is primeminister of Bavaria and Bavaria was in former times a kinddom they think special
They ARE special, but not in a good way.
Today Bavaria is a Bit like Texas. The Primeminister Soeder sometimes acts like a King, but he is more like a turncoat (Faehnchen im Wind). And not as bad as Trump.
@@timj.316 Bavaria was a kingdom within the German Empire until 1918 and the last king was Ludwig III.
@@bananenmusli2769 Korrekt. Ludwig III habe ich irgendwie verdrängt.
Markus Söder is our king in Bavaria
markus the selfcrow king of bavaria 😅 yeah, yeah some people voted for him ha ha
(which, admittedly, bring a lot of tourists to Bavaria nowadays, so at least they seem to repay now)
Die Royals! (This German and means "the royals".)
I'd love to invite Mert to my home in Germany. We'll have great fun together.
The question to the Germans was: We also have a king, do you know his name? But I don't understand the Germans' answer either
"We also have a king, do you know his name?"
"Do we?"
"Who?"
"Markus Söder?"
I think the "heute show" is similar to the "John oliver show". But I like "John Oliver" better :)
It's funny, Mert, if you try to pronounce german words and are curious about their meaning ;)
There are not only many funny sounding german words for Britons and other Anglo-nations, but many cities and villages too... the most famous is in Bavaria and begings with F* ;)
It's possible, that Germany has a lot of words that are longer than the welsh ones, because here it is the tradition to build compound words.
_"Da steh' ich nun, Ich armer Tor,_ Poor fool I am, now' stand once more,
_und bin so klug, las wie zuvor._ No wiser than I was before.
_Heiße Magister, heiße Doktor gar,_ called magister, called doctor even,
_und ziehe schon an die zehn Jahr'_ and now, for ten long years,
_herauf, herab und quer und krumm_ upwards, downwards, back, and forth,
_Meine Schüler an der Nase herum._ I give my pupils the run-around.
_Und sehe, dass wir nichts wissen können..."_ Just to behold, that we can't know anything...
(managed to rhyme the first lines, in english, but gave up. literal translation, and rhyming in a non-mothertongue language is hard as hell XD )
I'm sure there exists a decent translation of Goethe's "Faust" already ...
As a German, I am very happy to live in a republic and not in a dictatorship or monarchy where a guy like Prince Charles is now king... just because he was born...And you had to be very uncritical against British colonialism if you support the British royal family.
He is although as faul as your king! Faul=lazy... falling under the table switcher!
Wärmepumpen is a big political discussion in germany, since like 2 years, lot of populism involved here.
And yeah, markus söder is a populistic politican with a kind of person cult around him
Hi, Mert! Yes, bavaria is always "special" 😜, and Markus Söder ......sometimes he thinks he`s the king of bavaria, some say! 😅
By the way, when I watch you reacting the heute-show or something, I also "feel the togetherness" between us! 🤗🤣
Think democracy, think power of the people. Also think corruption and privilege and disadvantage/discrimination. Think especially privilege by right of birth.
