Sounds like the lifter is not dropping as it should thus the rack and snail (the counting mechanism) is unable to lock the striking mechanism. Probably some gummed up old oil on the lifter. That part should not be oiled. I imagine a cleaning and re oiling of the rest of the movement will fix that.
What a funny video. Those 2 high school girls had to figure out how to fix the chimes on their grandma's clock by moving the hands and shutting off the chimes.
Ima guess the next time it chimed at 1:15 it would have had the half past chime (2 verses of Westminster chime) then would continue to strike and strike and strike AND WHEN IT HITS 12 IT WILL EXPLODE
That turning thing that moves left to right is called a pendulum it is where it connects to the escapement which moves the hand And if this happens go th the back of the clock and open the hatch And there should be a lead with a plastic ring tied pull it and call a repairman

When i got my first clock, I wanted yo listen to the chime and i turned the minute hand. It displayed 10 o'clock and striked 37 time. I will try to explain the problem in a nutshell: A semi circle drop and will come back up with the strikes. The semi circle is hold by a pin wich lock it so it doesn't fall down immediately and it appears the pin got stuck by dust or something else. The problem can (normally) be fixed by turning the minute hand to the next hour. And also a quick information, NEVER TURN THE HANDS CONTER CLOCKWISE !!! This can force or break the conting pieces and your problem could be persistent and fixing it can be very expensive.
Clock reparist here, There is a lever that activates the wheights. Maybe make sure it’s not up or make sure … you just kinda made it worse. Make sure the worm gear is correct and the snail.

@@Zyphen4866 It has nothing to do with servicing and oiling. There is a small pin that stops the chimes and strike after they have completed for the given hour. That pin has broken, which is very common. Eventually it wears out but it is a simple and inexpensive repair by a technician. This is the cause of chimes "running away" as you put it.
Isn’t that the clock from Toms midnight garden. “It never strikes that right hour” 😂😂😂😂😂
IT IS FUNNY BECAUSE IT IS HOWARD MILLER GRANDFATHER CLOCK IT KEEPS CHIMING IT DOESN'T STOP 🛑
I must’ve counted 50 chimes.
This is the worlds funniest clock ever
Wow! This got popular. It’s fixed everyone. I have no idea how, but I’ve been to my Grandma’s many times since this. Thanks for your interest!!
It did that because it was overwound
How did you fix it?

Oh right I should've known
@@BakerFamily123 why did it get overwound how did they fix it

In situations like this you just put it on silent and call the repairman.
😂 makes sense to me!
it's 100'o clock lol

And some people that had the same problem must've thought ghosts were doing this
What a funny video. Those 2 high school girls had to figure out how to fix the chimes on their grandma's clock by moving the hands and shutting off the chimes.
They don't know about clocks so don't be mad at them
Thank you for thinking we’re young enough to be in high school! 😂
Plot twist they are stuck in a time loop
We were, we just got back! What did we miss? 😂
1:45 my grandfather clock did the same thing but it was a triple chime clock
Same but mine is 1930 wall clock
My clock chimes 12 every hour
Yeah same I went to a 3-D it’s a small world and it was like 1 o’clock or something but it still show 12 o’clock
The pin has broken that stops the chime train after it chimes and strikes the correct hour. See a clock tech. It's a minor fix!
When Big Ben Chimes 40 Times
It’s a ghost lol
IM CRAZY!
It Struck 51 times.

The snail gear is slipping of the gear that keeps the hour
Its the stopping pin on the gear. Its broke.
It's pretty simple, the clock is possesed and trying to call out to you
Thats the same clock i have but its a
"Jonathan Modal" and the numbers were black instead of gold
Big Ben chiming for birthday be like
dumb comment
How does it chime and keep on going without stopping.
Because the stop pin has broken it will not stop until the weight has dropped completely down to the bottom of the case.
The pin for the chime broke, or the part that stops the chime needs adjustment

I think they found a lever to turn it off, so it will not happen again

Get the rack on the left side of the movement back in place. It probably got out of place or it’s stuck.
I know what it is.
behind the clock face there is a set of teeth that count the chime maybe stuck best to call someone.

you have to lock it
I think the spring that hold the chime thing got broken

Oh nooooo
Try and remove the weights ladies. The pendulum doesn’t stop

This same problem with our grandfather clock
Yep same with mine we have one too and it has the same problem
0:49 it's called a pendulum
i beleive at 3 oclock there is a silent lever you can move
Too much energy
It won't stop chiming because the gears that control the chime are worn out
Y'all know nothing about the clock granny is gonna kick yo ass🤣
One of the mechanical pieces has either fallen out of place
Isaak Duncan no, its just a runaway, usually if you don't keep your clock oiled this can happen

@Darrell Anderson there is such thing as grandmother clocks, grandmother clocks r thiner than grandfather clocks
I think the striking gear is stuck so It thinks it's chiming more than 12
I know what's wrong its the rack it drop in the wrong place
Did you fix it
It fixed itself 👻

Sad.
The girl does not know how to hand the clock hands.
Its haunted
Its cursed

Yeah it's not good
in situations like this it will probably be fine…

The pendulum has nothing to do with the chimes or strike. The pendulum controls the time.
