Seems only fitting to have an XBOX arcade next to the Playstation and Nintendo arcades. I also think the Xbox logo and Xbox text look nicer than the gameboy colour, since its just two words in different fonts. Still looks good, but to me the Xbox X in the orb just sells it for me. Great work as always. I did something similar with a modded original Xbox in a bar top configuration. Ended up using a ps2 controller board (with the ribbon cable) to wire up the arcade buttons and a converter to make it work with the Xbox. I can see why you build all of these, just making the one I have was a ton of fun, even if it was a bit pricey compared to just plugging the Xbox into a TV.
I agree. There is this iconic E3 photo showing Nintendo, PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Xbox as mainstays on the tradeshow floor. this was my inspiration.
To be honest, I agree with everyone in the comments suggesting Xbox. You could go for Live Arcade with Remastered Arcade games and titles, and you could always softmod your Xbox for emulation, hell you could probably even get RetroArch and emulate a hell lot of stuff with the bonus addition of full customization and online abilities such as Achievements. And there are probably even titles that aren't necessarily Arcade games but still work in an Arcade format like Super Meatboy. So yeah, I vote for Xbox
Funnily enough, Cave Interactive is a really popular old school arcade shoot em up company that's notoriously stubborn at getting their backlog of games ported to modern consoles/PC (until very very recently outsourcing the job to other companies at a trickling pace). A lot of their games are still either arcade or Xbox360 exclusive, yet because they majorily ran on the CV1000 the resolution is kinda meh, which is why the upscale HD versions of the 360 are practically the definitive versions. You could give those a try, I'm going to make a cab with a 360 soon specifically for this purpose with an upright monitor to mimic the cabs.
You do know the xbox 360 also has the Xbox live arcade games which has remastered versions of quite a lot of actual arcade games like soul caliber 2 and Sonic Fighters which even come with added content Hell depending what your looking grab a Japanese xbox 360 for exclusive Rail shooters or upgrade to a series x which still has access to every major arcade game available on xbox live arcade Next don't do a raspberry pie but instead add a original Xbox. It has a lot more strengths then your giving it credit for Even if the ps2 had the the original xbox Is the improved version no matter what The image is cleaner with less graphical glitchs
Fair point. I could this this working better with Gamepass than buying whats on the 360 arcade marketplace just for an arcade. The original xbox was definitely a contender in this build theme.
@@RetroBuiltGames glad you liked the idea bro great cabinet too. A bit of red mixed with the green could give off a killer blood look for the style for the cabinet too.
Random thought ...remember those gaming kiosks at McDonald's back it the day would it be possible to recreate those with this Cabinet as an alt control method ... like how to do the fixed controller arms and if it would be a good move
very possible. I think recessed bays shaped like wireless controllers would be more modern and elegant. But if you're worried about controllers walking off; yeah one could fix two of those stiff-armed controller mounts from the kiosk glory days.
Why were you so stubborn about Xbox arcade games. I would never want to use an Xbox for that.. those in my head are the cheap lousy emulation type games. Just play regular Xbox games on it…
@@RetroBuiltGames I'm not sure. However, they either come with the usual joystick and buttons or a pair of xbox controller to use. When I went to an arcade back then the most popular game was GTA San Andreas. You pay pesos to play and you would be set on a timer and be free to play any game it had to provide within that time frame. I remember playing for an hour for about the equivalent of $4
thank you for this. I know there is a prevalence of console-to-arcade video converters that also overlay a on-screen timer. I was not sure what market used these.
Reporting in: this machine is now xbox (and windows PC) all the way
Vote here:
Thumbs up= Xbox heart = Gameboy
What about both?
"I would breath on it and the signal drops" had me rolling. Another great project. Thank for sharing your journey!
My pleasure Jon!

What is the preferred x360 softmod?
@RetroBuiltGames rgh or jtag
"Vertizontal" is my new favorite word
Same here really uncommon to hear now a days
I think I saw this word on the SATs last week

Awesome
Definitely prefer the Xbox layout.
I like the Xbox look more tbh
I vote Xbox themed! Something more original!
thank you!
I always enjoy watching your videos. Just wondering if you should reverse the fan direction on the PC with it facing up?
oo. good call. I think i am blowing hot air down in this scenario.

Don’t go game pass yo. Get yourself in contact with Mr Mario or MVG and get that thing a J-Tag or whatever board you have. Make a video out of it
I will look into the x360 soft mod scene
Yea definitely open that baby up and turn it into a true arcade machine.
Xbox looks the biz
XBOX looks better
You can always make a Mountain Dew marquee
yes, planet mount dew!
xbox
You could just softmod your Xbox and emulate arcade games
get some color clear film for the color letters in the marque and keep it a gameboy.
You do amazing work.
Thank you so much 😀
Maybe a good idea could be using it as a typing of the dead arcade
yesssssssssssssssss!!

You could of just rgh jtag the xbox 360 it's like having raspberry pi and xbox 360 games at the same time thanks for the video
good idea. the OG modded xbox with coin ops inspired this direction too.
Why were you so stubborn about Xbox arcade games. I would never want to use an Xbox for that.. those in my head are the cheap lousy emulation type games. Just play regular Xbox games on it…
matter of circumstance really. my issue is the library of native Xbox 360 isn't a robust arcade experience.
Why did you not just use a hdmi monitor cause xbox 360 (the one with the fan model) has a hdmi port
cant find a monitor that fits this size+ratio with HDMI
4:48 I think it should be called: “X-game color”
Sega Xbox Color-Station!
Why can't you make the marque says Retrocade? A mix of all retro games and arcade.
"retrocade" just doesnt do anything for me. my memories are tied to branding (as most of us). i want something that invokes memories.
To be honest, both marquees are kinda bland so it doesn't really matter. It's the color that stands out anyhow. :)
Personal I'd have the side art be black but the very front remains that lime green
I kind of like that.
I am so jealous of your creations!
thank you for the kind words!
I mean... Blood seems exactly the type of game you should be playing on a arcade cabinet.
yes
Please tell us about the Super NES arcade cabinet beside it!
That is the next video i promise!
There are certainly reason to build that jig to hold the computer, but wouldn’t a cable with an angled connector work?
Absolutely. I can built the jig in an hour, or wait 2 days and spend $8 for the connector.
@@RetroBuiltGames Yeah, but how long did it take to think up the proper name for it?
Every arcade cabinet in Mexico is an original Xbox emulator
like coin ops?
